  • Thanks for this, I found this very helpful as I was writing coursework about the character of Hale. Your analysis was great and the moments where you paused and went into detail were again very helpful. Helped me to get an A anyway :)

  • These nut jobbers remind me of todays liberals, a lot! Ironic....

  • I looove Hales character and some of the points you make in this are great- however I feel you're relying too much on the film. Alot of people who watch this (like myself) are looking for help with essays and better insight...in an essay we can't write about the expression on his face. Other than that though I really enjoyed this :) and like i say he's my favourite character, I relate to him so much ^-^ thanks for posting

  • @JxL483 Thanks for the comment. I actually made these videos for my own classes who *do* have to write about the expression on Hale's face since they are drama students. It just happens that these videos have become quite popular. However, now our specification has changed they are redundant. But it's still nice to see that people are getting good use from them. Thanks for your comments. :)

  • I've got to write an essay on the dramatic impact of the way Hale's character changes throughout the four acts...I'm struggling so much. :(

  • hey i need some help about act 1 if i would have to pick an interesting part to make a little summary and Analise that part which part would you recomend . pls i need ur help

  • JOHN PROCTORS HOTT!<3

  • We're reading this in our English class and I gotta admit it does have a hard vocabulary, they used antique words such as Aye,which means yes,I think.

Anyways,I like this, and hope i could watch the movie someday.

    Thanks for the upload

  • My favorite character!! I'm rereading the play for the fifth time right now :)

  • does anyone know when this movie was filmed and plus this is a great video good job on getting into the story do u happen to be an english teacher by any chance

  • thank you so much i had reached a... terrible jam in my english essay where i am writing about him: thank you so so much for this its helping me so much :D

  • hahahahahahaha this is real nice. I just came to youtube to watch the trailer out of curiosity. and nice. I am takin a test and write a essay about him and yes yes. this is real sweet. thank you

  • hale looks a lot like stevie ray vaughn...

  • As soon as i first saw him in the movie in class I said to myself "Omg why cant my bf look like him?" No joke I have weird taste.

  • Haha, I always thought Rev. Hale was kinda cute in his own way. We had to do a whole section on this movie in my English Arts class.

  • i love rob campbell

  • @blueeyedblkchk16 Hell yeah we're on the same boat. He's so pretty.

  • "heavy books".... "they must be they're weighted with authority"..... i love this guy!

  • Wow, your interpretation of Rev. Hale is so different than mine. At least as far as the movie's interpretation of the character goes, I don't find him arrogant at all. I find him to be a man who deeply believes in his faith, his knowledge, and the system. No arrogance. Boastful??? Not at all. Hale is one of the better parts of this movie, too bad the actor who did such a great job never really received recognition for his superb work.

  • Hale is fav character! Someone PLZ do a tribute to him and to other char. (s) in crucible and 2 crucible in general!

  • i just fell in love with daniel day lewis

    ( John Proctor )

  • Hale is so cute :)

  • i have a audition for the crucible and i am go ing for hale so thank you for making this video!

  • im doing a essay on hale through every act due tomorrow and this is just what i needed

  • I think Hale is very interesting as well.

    0:50=the I'm-a-rock-star-and-know-it look, lol

I think he is very eager in the beginning but towards the middle and end becomes more humbleand respectfull, but more insistant about the falseness of the trials.

I began reading the play, thinking "Oh man, I'm gunna hate this guy" but as I continued he became one of my favourite characters.

  • 0:50=the I'm-a-rock-star-and-know-it look

    I like that. :)

  • @FeralShifter The exact same for me, he is my favorite.

  • why is it ironic that John Proctor forgot the commandment?

  • he forgets adultery. and its ironic because he forgets the one thing that he is accused of. he is a lecher. he liked abagail.

  • cause he committed lechery himself x)

  • I'm not convinced that he forgot the commandment, I'd say he just couldn't bring himself to say it.

  • from the book: (things in brackets are the stage directions)

proctor: "(Pause. Then.) thou shalt honour thy father and mother. Thou shalt not bear false witness. (He is stuck. He counts back on his fingers, knowing one is missing.) Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image."

Hale: "you have said that twice, sir"

Proctor: "(lost) aye. (he is flailing for it)"

    Elizabeth: "(delicately) adultery, john"

Proctor : "(as though a secret arrow had pained his heart)" ....etc

    hmmmmmm...

  • @DeeperRootsProject

I agree, since he was having an affair with Abigail Williams, and one of the commandments included not lusting or something.

  • @joseali25 because he commited adultery on Elizabeth with Abigail. Irony...lol

  • what does Reverend Hale come to the Proctor's house?

  • I wouldnt describe Hale as arrogant and proud, thats a little far-fetched. I would say that he is confident eager and enthusiastic.

  • Well he maybe a priest like Parris, but he is everything Parris isnt. He shows a bit of flair and a tough personality is such troubled times whilst Parris buckles under pressure and ends up being robbed by Abigail

  • Actually he isn't a witch hunter. He is a priest as is Paris. He just studies it.

  • he's a reverand not apriest...if he were a priest back then he probably would have been killed...being catholic was punishable by death.

  • I'm a girl playing Hale in our school production. I love the character, and I want to get my portrayal right. This is really helpful! Thanks.

  • i like this vid evening sun crimson

  • i am playing reverent Hale in a school play.. this is really helping me out

  • Very good. Hope it goes well.

  • great job with fitting the song in there, it really goes well with the video

  • gotta get priorities right.

  • I have an entrance exam in 2 days and these really boost up my confidence

  • That's good to know. All the best with your exam.

  • Thanks for these - I wish more teachers did it!

  • No problem. Glad you like it.
