  • SIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII ME ENCANTA ESTE STANDARDDDDD

  • beautiful solos from both, man... unpretentious and swinging! the cat's meow...

  • BRAVOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Greetings from Brazil, Bill!

  • nice@

  • beautiful! XD

What would you say the best ways of developing improvisation are?

    Cheers,

    Jess

  • you make it look so easy .... swing on Bill. love your sound. thanks so much for the post.

  • Loving your pickup. What do you recommend for flute amplification?

  • soo cool!!!

  • wow this is wonderful! who says flutes arent jazz worthy?

(well my band teacher says so, i can't join jazz band because he doesnt consider flutes to be jazzy.. wow)

  • That jazz band teacher is a real moron for disallowing flutes because he thinks its not jazz worthy. You should report him to the principal and he should lose his job for showing clearly he is incapable of doing it. Wow what a complete idiot. You should show him this video.

  • This was at the TORONTO JAZZ FESTIVAL?

And I missed it? I failed life.

Do you have any performances coming up?

  • great. great great great. what's the tune?

  • "east of the sun, west of the moon"

  • Even on a Cort guitar Reg swings like no one else. He is the best by far

    since Ed Bickert.

    Nice flute playing Bill.

  • Very good, timeless*****

  • Really good playing. Much appreciated,

    Thanks, Hashi

  • Oh Reg...

  • wow! flute

    in jazz band

    omfg..! amazinn..

  • Is the Countryman Isomax II wireless? I've got a Fender 25 amplifier. could I connect it to that. And, how do you think it would sound with a Yamaha 221 flute? I also like to play along with cd's.Again, great flute playing Birnie!...

  • Simply great!...really enjoyed Bill McBirnie's super flute playing!. I noticed he put something onto his flute and can't figure what it is, but LOVED the sound he made with it.

Bill, if your reading this please tell me what's on the flute to make it sound so fabulous..again, your playing is superb!.

  • ...The sound is actually much better live!...

Anyway, it is a high-quality clip-on condenser mic; namely, a Countryman Isomax II (with a hypercardiod pick-up pattern). I have been using it for probably 15 years. It never feeds back! Soundmen love it! And I learned a few years ago that this is what Ian Anderson has been using for decades...So I am obviously in good company in having made that choice!...

    Sincerely,

    Bill McB.

  • Bill, do you actually use the country man isomax II?

  • Only "classical" flutists are concerned with posture. Jazz flutists can play upside down in a bucket of jello with one arm tied behind their back.

  • Just trying to find out if I'm a weird person from another planet. I just came from a jam session that was all rock. And, um, I never got to play (no space in there). Well, after the cops left, and I argued with my girl, I came home an listened to this. Such joy! Stick around Bill. You are my sanity.

  • ...That's the nice thing about using a clip-on mic and not having to use a fixed mic/stand...I can move around!...

Also, this is a NON-classical playing environment...so the conventional rules and "posturing", if you will, do NOT apply! :-)

    Sincerely,

    Bill McBirnie

  • @billmcb i do agree with the posture.. it is how you express your music.. BRAVOOOOO!!! great sound!!!

  • GREAT!

  • BILL you are one of the best jazzers of today...you rock and I wanna see more of you on here...

i hope you know who this is

    -Tigran the flutist-

  • Reg Schwager is my FIRST choice on guitar...and I am not alone in that!...

    Sincerely,

    Bill McBirnie

  • OMG! You never know where Reg Schwager will turn up. LA, Europe, playing with Mose Allison, making effortless magic on a street corner, he's a mystery. What a player. Maybe Wes Montgomery could've touched him. Lovely trio.

  • East of the Sun....Cool

  • This was nice. Great guitar!

  • (That's Reg Schwager...and he IS pretty heavy!... :-)

  • Beautiful playing!

  • Great sound guys =) Meshes seemlessly

  • Amazing! The tone is phenomenal!

  • Thanks, RMPNG, but actually it sounds better in real life. I am using (1) a Haynes flute, (2) a Countryman Isomax II clip-on condenser mic and (3) a Galien-Kruger 200MV amp...so, believe me, it all sounds much better in real life!

    Sincerely, Bill McB.

  • Beautiful, so pretty! :3

  • I definitely like your playing, its unpretentious, very good, and melodious. you seem to be on skis.

  • Karaoke or total asynschron

  • The performance is live - not dubbed. You will find that the sychro is much better at MySpace where you can also see this video. (I don't know why the synchro worked better at MySpace than You Tube...Seems to me that it should have been the other way around! :-)

  • I know the wind can be a drag when you play outdoors but very nice...,Flutist Walter Bell

  • soz, diploma not degree, typo, lol, im not tht good actually at jazz, i usually play classical, but prefer jazz

  • course theres more jazz flute players, im one myself, even if im only 13, lol, i think it counts if im doin a degree an earn money

  • I like this clip very much, but Hubert Laws is still the Man!

  • Beautiful, so pretty! :3

  • As a student of bill....i must say....he is a god....there arent any better YAZZ flute players out there

  • A great clip of a great flutist--Bill McBirnie. It is truly worth a listen!
