stay away.. see my comment below.. SmartAUTO has ruined the new Canon line for 2009+. I own the new SD780is and the AUTO feature is useless for indoors and outdoor low light shots.... horrible. Best I've owned was 1100is = outperformed high end LUMIX I have. Never had to adjust settings on it.

(I know that it has a charger which recharges the battery outside the camera but that´s not what I need right now.)

Kingradin, thanks for letting me know. You´re probably right. Usually manufacturers are pretty eager to tell what product CAN do. In my manual of the SD880, it seems that the possibility to recharge the camera through USB is carefully circumvented. Bit of a bummer.

I have to add though, the charger that recharges the battery when it´s out of the camera works excellent and fast. And you can keep using the camera when you have an extra battery.

i agree, charging battery outside of a camera is kinda trouble, but it gets the battery a longer life. btw, an extra battery ins not in the box !!

any way, though CANON cameras lack some nice features, but in all the cameras i have worked with, has the best and user-friendliest menu !!

Yeah, It is. Not the greatest but still better than other compact cameras

vadim2hot4you, I recorded under various conditions, including live concerts, and I´m quite pleased with the results. I have no experience with other compacts tho, and it has no HD. Under very dim circumstances, you´ll be mostly recording blackness. And obviously it´s not a substitute for a handycam.

BTW it has a built-in sound-recorder (mono), so you can also record just sound e.g. at a live concert while keeping the camera in your pocket.

It depends on what are you looking for.

T900 is more pocketable - you'll never have a problem carrying it everwhere around.

SD880 is bigger, but has better optics - thus it's a better performer.

out of the compact 10mp cameras from canon, how come only the sd770is and sd790is have burst mode? and this is the most expensive canon sd camera and it doesn't have burst mode, guess thats a compromise considering the a2000is doesn't have burst mode either, but out of the other sd cameras, the sd880is has the biggest optical zoom

it may not have burst mode, but it has continuous shot mode. Which is about the same.

This camera is made in Japan! So, are you going to pick it up???  You should! This SD880 is an amazing camera for the price. Definitely one of the best around. We're very pleased with it's performance, even after months of use now. GOOD LUCK!!

When you take a video with this can you zoom in and out or do you have to set that up ahead of time? For example: I enter movie mode start recording and now as I'm recording my video I want to zoom in and out...can I do it? Because with the camera I have now you have to set the zoom ahead of time...once you hit record you can't zoom in and out.

yes, you can zoom in and out in video mode with this model! like I shared previously, Canon absolutely NAILED shut this particularly model. For the money, it's top shelf performance in every aspect and then some. Can't tell you how pleased we are with its overall performance. And now, with our new Canon color printer, we can also print out very sharp colored photos from the convenience of our home!! Give it a "10" folks! GOOD LUCK!

Yes you can..But only digital zoom..You can't do optical zooms in this camera while recording a video..just like the camera you have now

Canon purposely held back on the video resolution. This is so that they can release something better later.

I'm disappointed with the low video resolution. It's all about HD video these days.

Absolutely yes. The numeric nomenclature Canon uses to designate its cameras doesn't really makes sense. This is a better camera than the SD1000 and SD1100
