I think it's a cultural thing. To my mind, European metal in all its forms represents the landscape of Nordic civilisations, from the Black forest to the Fjords, and the folktales which accompany them.
When listening to this sort of music, I'm always able to picture their world, the battle hardened warriors facing off against monsters, kingdoms rising and falling, and all the epic tales of that world.
If we look from a historical standpoint...the Nordic people did some voyaging at the time of the viking invasions of central and west Europe. They also did mercenary work in eastern Europe in their late era. Northern Europe wasn't that rich in resources and loot at that time, so they traveled a lot.
Remains of viking presence was also found as far as Ukraine.
@lovefordante Kamelot and Dream Theatre are both good :-). I guess European music has a lot of history and a lot of symphonic metal bands use a lot of scales and tonality from medieval and renaissance music. However, I'm still waiting for a native-American style metal band (I like native American music), so it's not as if the USA hasn't got the musical history, just hasn't really utilised it yet...
There are some good US Metal bands (Iced Earth, Queensrÿche, Symphony X, Dream Theater, Fates Warning, Nevermore and others). It is just that the pop music ends up getting promoted more.
There's plenty of GOOD metal bands in the U.S., they just do not get radio play because their style is no longer popular like it once was. They do not get radio play or promoted anymore - and the reason for this is - the pop and fucking rap crap has taken over. It's all about the monies, to hell with any talent.

The sorrow of it is that they're one of the more meaningful bands and that they were screwed over by American Society. I swear, they could've had better luck in Europe..

yeah, it's depressing. Corporate America has basically killed all genuine talent and creativity in the art of music for americans. If it doesn't sound like everything else, its not worth it. I know what you mean- i've seen bands that overseas draw thousands of people get stuck in venues like that. No wonder they do not want to play here.
@lovefordante i dont want to be offensive against Americans, but i think its that they lack that mythical edge in their history. the likes of european countries and the UK have so much imaginative Mythical stories and folklore, many power metal bands base they're music arouns such stories and the likes of Kamelot tend to concentrate on famoues Kings and Queens of England.
lunatica is awesome u kno why, it's a metal band but they're not afraid to look at other borders and mix it up, they're not afraid to go harder or softer or mellow
It's a great song I have to say. Nice musical play aswell as voice. Synch (betwen song and voice) is mostly on high grade, can lower but is variable.

i know, they've been around for a while. i'm from the UK and dont really hear about these bands. since i heard of them, like, 3 months ago i'v bought loads of their cds!

I never get tired of this song. another good band i just found is hammerfall, there rock/metal and there all really fit!! :)

I must say i have to agree with LinarkSpain, only just finding out about hammerfall? i'm afraid you are really missing out on something special they have been around for the best part of 10-11 years a leading name in power metal :D
