I believe that there's something inherently wrong with basing a country's legal system on on outdated religious text (that not everybody believes in). That goes for Christianity as well. There is no proof that anything in the Bible of Koran are true. It's based purely on faith. So effectively people are sentenced to die or be disfigured on the basis of an old book.

In Saudi Arabia people don't close their shops, they just go to prayer as usual.
They even leave their doors open and when I was there in 2007 I saw Jeweler-shop owners just leave their shops wide open for prayers.
When people know the consequences, they always think twice about doing the crime.
Unlike the west, giving parole to Rapists and giving Thieves only months in jail.
Your society is corrupt and it shows, just open your eyes !!!
