I love watching this highlight, but funny thing was my friend David who was at that game told me two things about Kobe that night that he knew something special was going to happen. 1. Kobe was missing almost all of his pregame shots and 2. his jersey was glowing before the game.

Defense was much slower back then which is why Jordan was pretty dominant then. Kobe might've been able to burn through some defenses but of course all our conversation is just speculation. We'll never really know.

Kobe is a monster beast, noone can defend him well enough to pressure Kobe and force him to make difficult shots. I feel truly sorry for those who have guarded Kobe, and have lost.

As for your earlier comment, calling Kobe the Guru of angering teammates...yeah, Kobe hasn't always been the best team mate. But think about it, MJ wasn't either. You know what the biggest difference between their perceptions was? The lack of instant access media coverage in MJ's day. Had it existed, you would see just how big an asshole MJ was.

FACT: everytime MJ scored 50+ vs NY, they were a Top 5 defense.
They ranked 23rd in defense when kobe scored 61 on them, they were ranked #1 in defense & were in the finals the year B4, when MJ scored 55 on them..big difference dumb ass.

And they were 1 of the most defensively ANEMIC teams in '06..they were all offense. Out of his 24 career 50+ pt games, 15 of 'em were against sub .500 teams, and 19 of 'em occurred AFTER the defensive rules changed. He beats up on bad defensive teams & DISAPPEARS against the better ones.
Last year, it was Gasol who ranked #1 in offensive rating vs Top 10 defenses for guys who account for at least 18-23% of their teams possessions. Kobe didn't even rank!
Now that's nuff said..

Gilbert Arenas scored 60 pts vs Kobe on Dec. 17, 2006. Most players in the league today don't step on the peddle vs bad teams in order to have big scoring games, kobe does, and he's been criticized for it by many people, including Phil & Tex Winter. Go read their books.
Most guys will sit down once the game's in hand vs bad teams, kobe continues to fire away. That's what's responsible for his greatest offensive games & that's a fact.

Ask yourself: why's he NEVER scored 50+ pts vs the #1-2 ranked defense, or 60+ vs a Top 10 ranked defense at ANY point in his career? He NEVER does it against the better defensive teams..
This is WHY longtime fans balk at these MJ comparisons.
MJ had 31 career reg season games of 50+ pts. 23 of 'em were against above .500 teams. Kobe has 24 career 50+ pt games. 15 are against sub .500 teams (7 with less than 30 wins), and 19 of 'em came AFTER the defensive rules changed.
See the difference?

@RealFan357 Personally I think the Celtics defense today is as good as and in some cases better than the top defenses from the 90's. If they were allowed to play under the old rules they would be frightening. The rest of the league not so much...well maybe the spurs a few years ago. Your thoughts?

They are a solid defense, but Tom Thibodeau, who was the defensive coordinator for the '08 Celtics & the 90's knicks, said it best when asked to compare both teams:
