  • View Scunthorpe Steal.

A film shot in my hometown, Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire, this exciting community based documentary looks at the steel industry in Scunthorpe and how it has shaped the towns past, as well as taking a comprehensive view of the most recent developments and where Scunthorpe will be in the future. An aesthetically driven film encompassing all that is Scunthorpe, from its rich heritage to its varied community.

  • Hey, I think you guys did a good job on this! It's honest, touching, and timeless. And the Sigur Ros music works great. I live 5,000 miles away but maybe someday I'll come see your time for myself. Thanks for posting.

  • @scythe1998 LOL!

  • good work dudes

  • Where is Scunforp?

  • Which teacher helped with this? Sack him or her!

  • great work - living history!

  • Typical foxhills kids, not a brain cell between them. I think my dog could sting a sentence together better!

  • yer am from scuthorpe and it does have alot of good history, but remember history is in the PAST scunthorpe is now mainly council estates, teenage pregnancies and heroin abuse, and brumby and crosby which they talk about are now dangerous to walk in at night

  • i miss scunthorpe! i used to live on buckingham street, i went to foxhills but moved to high ridge now known as st lawrences academy, i admit i didnt like going to foxhillls but absoloutly loved going to ridge :D moved out of scunthorpe at the start of year 8 i am now going into year 10 in september.

  • bigskip36 come to scunny n u would get ure ass kicked

  • where are YOU from you ignorant fool?

  • damm well done all round

  • Hi from a Scunthorpe lad living in Florida. Nice to see some images of the old home town. I have been away for nearly 5 years, maybe get back for a visit once my US Citizenship comes through in a few years time..

  • wow,..u got out,..im sill diggin a tunnel ,..but they keep draggin me back,...lol...but i will get out 1 day,..

  • Thanks Kids, that was great.

I left Scunthorpe over thirty years ago and it was good to see how the place has changed.

I got a job at the "works" (funny really 'cos we didn't have to say what kind of works...there was only one!) and I am still involved in the steel industry and proud of my home town.

What is sad is that the skyline has changed and I guess the works buzzer and red skies are not what they were.

    Bradley.

  • I LOVE THE LIGHT

  • Enjoyed that it was well put together, interesting to note that the circle of trees have gone from around the fountain now. Scunny gets a bad press normally so this was a breath of fresh air ! nice 1

  • lived scunny all my life, lovin it! aint no place like scunny!!

great vid guys!! tho lets be honest, cenny park dunt rly look like tht no more =[

  • Just like to add that at 01:52 the street behind is incorrectly named as Redbourne Street, like the village and not Redbourn Street after the name of the steelworks. Also at 02:09 which shows the Coronation Club this was originaly built as a town hall in 1871 at a cost of £100. In 1886 it was fiited with eight beds and became Frodingham Cottage Hospital. At 03:00 in the early part of the last century Frodingham Road was known as Parkinson Road. At 03:15 it is Scunthorpe oldest surviving mill.

  • Very well done, an excellent publication but can you tell why it was the village of Scunthorpe that bares the name of the borough and not one of the other four, after all it was Frodingham that was the local parish and the principal village.

  • Nicely done guys, Ive lived here for 7 years and didn't know about most of what you talked about. you suffered for your art too as it sounded like it was cold.

    stop bein a pathetic prick!!

  • ..Yeah man, you are being a bit of a prick,

    Scunthorpe isn't that bad,

  • @richold scunthorpe really is dire...i'm so glad i dont live there any more

  • Was that comment necessary RiiDDiiM? Im not from Scunthorpe but I think every village, town and city has potential.

  • yeah, well its a really good edited piece of work, though the music in the background just makes up for the dullness of scunthorpe and the people in it. true story.

  • i love this video, it made me cry. my grandad worked in the appleby-frodingham steel mill from when he was 11 years old, and my dad was born in lindsay street, and grew up in pinchbeck avenue, which was also known as welsh corners because there was a lot of welsh folk in that street at the time. now i live a million miles away, but this video brought me back home to my roots. x

  • Brilliant - Well done - I lived in Scunthorpe for 26 years - worked at the steelworks for 12. Moved to New Zealand and now make films for a living - this is right up there - i'd like to see more.

  • omg it ws smade also by chloe wroe! one of my old friends!

  • i lived in scunny until i was 10.97 yrs old and i really cried my eye out when i found out i was moving, i had around 37 friends ='(

  • What can I say guys?

This is a quality video and so moving to see people keeping their heart in Scunthorpe. If you did want to make another film in the Summer I would be more than happy to help. I've lived in Scunthorpe all my life and now am now studying Television production in Bournemouth. It would be a fantastic to have another video to add to the collection.

    Again! Well done!

    Shane

  • very good . i enjoyed watchin that

  • I live nextdoor to Central Park!

  • What can i say. This video was absolutely incredible. Im from Scunthorpe and i am 27. What really stood out for me with this video was the sheer amount of history i never knew about my home town which i can now say, thanks to this video, gives me a warm sense of pride to live in. Excellent work from all involved in this project. Would love to see more from these talented people.

    Well Done

    A+

    Paul

  • high ridge owns

  • foxhills ftw!

  • Fantastic stuff - I really enjoyed it. Well done to all of you.

  • I was at the film festival last night and this film won the 11-15 Documentary category, unfortunately no one was there to pick up the golden girder. Tut, tut Foxhills!

  • So what happened Foxhills ? i'm very surprised and a little disappointed that you couldn't make the film festival after all the hard work we put in.....

i would have been there myself but due to work commitments i couldnt make it....

    jon

  • Nice little video about my hometown... left for 14 years now. What's the music playing underneath? Sounds very atmposhperic/eerie!

  • Great video, congratulations to all those involved. I left in 1985 but recognise many buildings in the film and will be sure to show my twin daughters, born in Holland.

    Well done!

  • I wonder why I left Scunny. Thanks for the answer.

  • Damn you get close to my house but not close enough >_<

Which teacher helped do this? Dixon?

  • Miss O'Toole helped with the filming and production of the film,,,

  • Sorry about the last post, I saw the credits after but I couldn't edit this, anyway.

    Nice work

  • i'm not sure if she knows it's on youtube yet, maybe you could see her at school and tell her how to find it... thanks >> Jon

  • gg i've already sent your vid to friends living in brazil and sweden so they can see a bit of the town

  • thank you for your support and kind words. the kids at foxhills school will be buzzing when they find out their film is being viewed in Brazil and Sweden.

They were so proud of the finished film and are looking forwrad to seing it on the big screen at Scunthorpe Young Peoples Film Festival.

  • nice vid but you've made a few mistakes theirs not 62 thousand people more like 72 to 78 thousand people in the last head count of scunny and i really think you should have shown the town in the summer maybe shown church square and the high street and maybe thown in some footege of the otehr estates but other then that it was a good vid

  • thank you for the comments, unfortunately we had a small window of time to make this short docu about Scunny.

The film will be entered into the first Scunthorpe Young Persons Films Festival which is taking place in March. Maybe the young people of Scunthorpe will now be inspired to make a Summer version of the film with better light conditions and sunshine on the town.

  • 62 thousand is about right, I think it is 78 thousand when the population of Bottesford is added to the count.

  • A video about Scunthorpe is well overdue! Well done, must have taken you a long time to put this together!

  • the film was produced this week over a period of 3 days. the kids at foxhills [FTC] school were fantastic and their enthusiasm and hard work proved invaluable in getting this film made in such a short time.
