You can use any feedstock you want. I've used corn alone and sugar alone. I use sugar mostly because I get it cheap from a local supplier, rejects from a food processing plant. Yes, because I use this for fuel I keep all of it, heads and tails.
This entire operation is for sale if anyone is interested. Obviously shipping the boiler is going to be tough so I'd prefer someone picking it up. I am building a larger unit now.
I just dump the old wash into my compost. When I used corn the mash I actually fed to my chickens. I'd like to see a quick and dirty true 20% wash as I haven't been able to get near that percentage.
Thank you. I want to change it actually as after doing it I have a much better idea. If you need some help I'd be glad to help you. If you are close enough to drive here I'd be willing to sell this entire set up too.
@meanmitsu I have some pretty good welding skills with TIG welding stainless and I've made my own reflux unit. I was just mostly curious what to do with the left over mash solution. What kind of alky % do you usually run in your boiler? I can easily make some quick & dirty 20% with just sugar and turbo yeast. Not much for taste but fine for engines. That's a very nice setup, don't you just love those tri-clamps! (?) It makes dissassembly and cleaning a breeze.
I put 40 gallons in the boiler typically, it will hold more but over filling it causes it to push out into the column. The higher the volume it flows, i.e. 2.5 gph, is more related to the percentage of alcohol in your wash than the amount of wash in the boiler. I have 70 gallons I have made so far, it's about 75%, 150 proof. I denature it with gasoline but only 2%.
OK, I'll start the many questions that I'm sure will pop up.
How much mash solution do you go thru in your 2-1/2 gph? Also, what do you do with the left over mash solution? Are you mixing the E85 stuff or running 100% alky? I know already 170 proof is easily run alone but wondered about the legal part of leaving the site with 100% alky on board.

You keep all the production including the head and tails? Definately interested in this setup. What kinds of feedstock can you use with this?
