99% of the ppl saying capoeira is useless in fighting... have no clue about capoeira. They just saw a couple of fail capoeristas doing tricking in a video and said "capoeira sucks". Sadly capoeira is an evil and deadly MA. It has ellbow strikes, knee strikes, some Jiu jitsu and rly dangerous techniques.
There is no need to do ginga and acrobatics for a capoeira fight.
@NoPixelz exactly bro.. no one knows bout it..its funny because the fighting defense was hidden with the ginga and people just critize it just because of that

Well it wasnt capoeira that the pigmies did but a form that probebly went into capoeira. More than one fighting style has gone into today's capoeira which means that tribal dances have influenced capoeira in the same way that capoeira influenced today's samba. I'm sure the dance your referring to isn't called capoeira.
You couldn't be more wrong. Even as an appraisal of all martial arts in context-specific circumstances, there are styles and forms which dominate others insofar as combat effectiveness is concerned.
I think it doesn't matter what you learn, that does matter how good fighter you are. I wouldn't trust these surweys anyway, or you ment fight statisstics? It simpple to say BJJ is the best, if when you hear about a BJJ fighter defeated by a Capoeirista, ypu simply say, the BJJ fighter was bad, adn Capoeirista learnt something else and etc.. Probably the BJJ fighter was worse, and it shows BJJ isn't the only thing.
Furthermore it was Dao Mo in 527 AD who wrote two classics: Yi Jin Jing (Muscle/Tendon Changing Classic) and Xi Sui Jin (Marrow/Brain Washing Classic) that taught the priests how to build their Qi.
including the series of 18 exercises contained in a manuscript, the I-Chin-Ching, outlining the Shaolin method of Chinese boxing. The method that emerged from the Shaolin Temple, representative of the northern Chinese styles in general, called wai-jya (wai-chia) or external family of Chinese boxing.
Just for all of you guys education, the oldesd proof of martial arts, was found in africa, so don't be surprised to know that africans knew how to kick way before, any shaolin temple was open. and by the way, shaolin kung fu was not started by chinese fighters but by an Indian Monk, who wanted to offer budists monks a chance to defend themselves, just the same way Jujitsu was created by an Indian monk, than made more effective by the japanese warrior class
"chinese fighters but by an Indian Monk, who wanted to offer budists monks a chance to defend themselves, just the same way Jujitsu was created by an Indian monk, than made more effective by the japanese warrior class " I think you need to read more about it.
tianshanwarrior in no disrespect, but great admiration to your interest in the pursuing of classic martial arts, I think you are the one who needs to read more about it The most influential person in the study of Kung Fu's history through the Shaolin Temple is an Indian monk named Da Mo (or Ta Mo). Da Mo, known as Bodhidarma, a small prince of a Southern Indian tribe. He followed the Mahayana school of Buddhism and was revered as a bodhisattva - an enlightened being who had renounced nirvana.
yenzep, there are serious doubts about the authenticity of the Yi Jin Jing as well as the existence of Da Mo. MA were lready mentioned before Shaolin was build and even after there is no mention or any specific style of MA until the Minf Dinasty. If you read the wroks of prf Meir Shahar, Staney Henning and prof. Ma Mingda you will see that lost of what people take as fact in nothing but nonsense.
I so so sick of that stupid style versus style argument. I've seen capoerista that could take out "professional fighters" and the like, just like I've seen Capoeirsta and grapplers who wouldn't last 2 seconds in a real fight. People like to play pretend and say that b/c they were studying whatever style they are unbeatable. "Well blah blah wont work b/c this and that." Childish!Fighting is an art that lies within and outside of all styles. If you can fight, you can, if not you can't, thats fact.
Haha. Does his guard, timed sidekicks and wrestling and punshing come from capoeira? I dont think so. Now we are talking a mixed martial artist, and one of the martial arts is capoeira, simply.
I had a feeling you'd say that. There are very few successful MAs who are not some form of MMA. Bruce Lee said "take what is useful and develop from there". All good MAs do this. There is more to this discipline than fancy flourishes and music. BJJ isn't the only style Royce Gracie is trained in. Does that mean his successes don't validate it as a MA?
The good things that he takes from capoeira makes him good. Thats simple. If he would fight like they dance in shows, he wouldnt be sucsessful. Indeed to what you say.
Actually his timed sidekicks and wrestling do in-fact come from capoeira. it has many wrestling elements. as for the side-kicks, traditional (the slave version) didnt use many flips and spin kicks. it was an extremely usefull fighting style (think of it as muay thai with handstand kicks). And this is mma so limiting himself to just capoeira would be stupid, so thats why he has punches and that guard
The side kicks and spinning kicks are from older martial arts. Probably some of the slaves know some muay thai or somethig. The guard and side kicks and straight punches are so basic that anyone can figure them out by theirselves just by thinking a few minutes.
Are you serious? you actually think the african slaves, with almost no contact with Asia knew muay thai? wow... that is one of the most retarded things ive ever heard. And capoeira does and always has used side kicks.
@Flyingtart you know muay thai was made in thailand, how did and african slave go to thailand and learn muay thai, and capoeira was made because learning how to fight was prohibited for the slaves, so the african slaves made it look like a tribal dance, so how, if fighting was prohibited, did they teach muay thai to the other slaves
its not the style that beats u.. its how well trained or how well u can fight.. i dont believe that KUNGFU can take out KARATE or anyting NOPE.. i think if they are good at using that style than there good.. i've seen KArAtE beat up a lot of kung fu students or w.e. and capoera.. well this looks nothin like brakedance fight but oh well just like KUNG FU dont look like KUNG FU either.. but yea.. iono i dont belive one style is beter than the other its how welll u can fight.

folks, I have found evidence from a quotation
in the Egyptian Book of the Dead which may
indicate that Capoeira has an ancestry that
dates back to before the 3rd Egyptian Dynasty
300+ years ago when Pharoahs would bring
pygmies to their court to dance for them.

Any brazilian knows the true story... as I do.
Capoeira was a "fake dance" created to make the slaves able to fight their lords. They practiced dancing so people woudn't notice it.
