  • You say you are using your sights at encounters of 3-5 feet?! In order to use the sights the gun has to be extended TOWARD the target(?). If my opponent is 3-5 feet away my gun is just going to clear my holster and I'm gonna pivot the gun to bring the barrel onto the target and I am going to engage with the gun just above waist level just forward of the hip. To extend your weapon toward a threat that close is to risk being disarmed.

  • Great video. Thank you.

  • Very well presented, 5 stars, thanks.

  • What do you do if you have a hangfire/misfire on a revolver?

  • Wait for 30 seconds, keep the gun on target, then pull the trigger again. Revolvers take a lot less training to master.

  • great video. helpful for the newbie.

  • Yeh that was very proffesionelly done thanx 4 that.B..

  • cant blame the soldier for not waiting. in combat that would get you killed. tap..rack..bang.

not something you should do on the range but after having it drilled into your head by the military its probably hard to remember not to do it.

  • SPORTS is an acronym that was developed by the army, With "tap...rack...bang" you're just taking out observing the chanber and tapping the forward assist. On the Ruger I don't generally tap the back of it, and observing the chamber doesn't take me hardly any time at all. Thanks for the comment.

  • Very nicely put together, and clearly explained.

    Bravo

  • I agree with everything you say.Being a nurse you should know there is more than just one way to practice medicine.Use what works for you. This is what I was taught in military 89 to 93,2 different police academies, tactical medic for daviess county, ky srt team.Brother in law that is a civilian contractor at FORT BRAGG, N.C.(DELTA).Clint Smith(HK,Gunsite,Thunder Ranch)teaches this method.Same method military uses on the M-16 remedial action drills.

  • The method I used it also derived from the military, more specifically the Army. SPORTS. Slap, pull, observe, release, tap (there's is your forward assist on the M-16) and squeeze (shoot). If the problem is a magazine spring that's over compressed, reloading the retained magazine won't do you any good. I might use your method on the range, but I myself would never use it in a gun fight. I'm comfortable and confident in my method. Thanks for your comments.

  • Do not assess the stoppage.Take a knee,or seek cover.Keep your muzzle down range.Tap,rack,bang.If weapon fails, lock your slide, remove your magazine.Rack slide twice.Reload with retained magazine. You should be back in the fight. You should carry a minium of 2 extra magazines.Never lose a magazine you just might need it.

  • Keep things simple,tap,rack,bang/ready for stove pipe or failure to feed. again tap, rack, bang then lock slide back then rip magazine out retain with firing hand, rack slide twice, reload with same magazine for the double feed. Racking the slide 5 times,I will advance on you and kill you while you play with your handgun.Carry a back up (NEW YORK RELOAD).

  • Taking the time to lock the slide back to clear a double feed? Why add a step? The way I show you in the video is the fastest way to clear a double feed. You said you would "retain the magazine with the firing hand"? You're grip should never change, you'll just make it easier to take away or more likely that you'll drop the handgun. Rip the magazine out and let it fall free. You need one hand to hold the weapon and one to clear it. You MUST carry a spare magazine.

  • Shown on the video:

    1)Rip the old magazine out

    2)Rack the slide

    3)insert new magazine

    4)chamber a round

    5)resume firing.

  • As suggested by jack4jones: 1)Tap the magazine 2)rack the slide 3)Pull the trigger 4)Lock the slide back 5)Rip magazine out and retain it 6)Change your grip of your firing hand to hold the gun and the magazine 7)Rack the slide (again?) 8)Re insert old mag 9)Chamber a round 10)Resume firing My suggestion to viewers, follow the video.
  • In the middle of a gunfight, you do not take your eyes of your adversary.Muzzle down range.Keep your adversary under duress. Most stoppages/malfucntions occur secondary to magazine not being seated proper-ly.

  • that was really cool man.. Create another video...

  • Oh I agree. I have a Ruger SP101 with a 4 inch barrel.

My only problem was faulty ammo - some .357 magnum Federal Premium 180g wouldn't seat properly. Turned out that the box and cartridges said .357 but that the base of the bullet was more like .40. The maker requested them back for analysis. They promised a technical report and replacement ammo plus postage so it should be interesting.

  • This is great stuff. It's good to see someone who has obviously thought about/studied these things giving sober instruction.

  • ...I've never held a gun, but found your video both informative and interesting.. thank you

  • Interesting to know what NOT to do when malfunctions happen

  • Cool.
