the grace note or trill is called A HAMMER DOWN.0.57 by picking the string then hitting the cord bar. thus giving the twang twang sound used in wild wood flower.mabelle carter song,it takes a little practice.
I recently started playing the autoharp and I am very interested in playing early (or any, really) Carter family songs. This sounds really good!
I was just wondering, how are you doing that grace note (trill? I'm not sure of the correct terminology) at 0:57 as well as a few other times in the song? I've seen videos of Maybelle doing this, and I can't figure it out.
Hi, Thank you for the comment. I just recently found out the term for this technique (I am a new player too) Its called a Hammer on and what you do is hit the strings first and let them ring for a half a second or so and then hit the button. If you click the link below my video there is a better explanation of this technique. I am going to post a better version of this song using Maybelle Carters favorite key (the Key of F) within a week or so.
thanks! this is really helpful!
(I am clapping for your performance)

Yeah not bad for a beginner. I am trying as hard as I can to imitate Mother Maybelle's style.
