wouldnt it be worth the 2 seconds it takes to pick up the summon materia? you probably wont use it because it takes too long, but couldnt you sell it to buy more molotovs or other stuff? i dont remember how much money it brings though.

Once I pass the next segment, it gets MUCH easier. If I pass that segment by february next year, it's no problem to finish the rest in one year.

When you take the final game time into account do you include the big long FMV at the end of the game?

Technically it is part of the game and you have to include every other FMV so does it count?

The run is "over" when the last blow is dealt to Sephiroth and the player can't control the characters anymore.

Excellent. Seg 18 will just be strait luck but it is quite short at least if I remember right?

Actually, segment 18 is very long, very hard and very luck reliant. That is, unless I do something controversial about those two Right Arms. I have to steal two Right Arms in segment 17 as well, but it's only up to the first save point at Mt. Corel, so it's a short and easy one that shouldn't take too long to complete.

Yes I meant 17 i think that was the one where Ferringa got the two right arms... i'm probably off about that though. What do you mean when you say 'controversial'? Like what is plan b you have in mind?

After reaching the save point, I could have gone back to the previous screen to get the next two Right Arms there. It would have cost me some extra time, but then I could have put a lot more effort into the next segment.

Instead, I'll only get one Right Arm in the next segment, as the second one won't save me a lot of time. It's not a perfect run anymore anyway, so it doesn't really matter.

I could never do this. I love this game and all of Squares games to death and I wanna try it, but the fact that I like them so much is my motivation AND my downfall. I would end up getting caught up in the text, and next thing I know, I would have wasted 2 minutes reading a conversation without even realising it.

Garland, have you ever tried doing a single-segment run just for kicks, not aiming for perfection or anything? What's your best time?

I did a single segment run in about 11:50 four years ago. That was a good time at the time, but it was later beaten by several people, including lolo26 who did it in 9:08. I'm not doing it again, but lolo26 will probably redo it one day and record it.
