There is no such thing as scottish blood, the scots are not a race of people, the scots are not defined as a race through anthropology, and their is almost no genetic differences between an englishman, scot, irishman or welshman.
the scots are defined through culture, community and society etc.
You are not a scot unless you were raised in scotland from a young age.
True Scotsmen understand and always will. No we are not Emglish. We will never be English so quit saying that it is the same. I don't hear these things about the Irish but the are part of the UK.
em pipes were screaming when the black watch walked acrossed open land into german machine fire. no wonder they ran away. it would have been frightening to see Canadians walking to their death with out emotion. they would have just looked like zombles always comeing and coming. plus the pipes were screaming loud while this act of braverly was acurring. and although the germans had the advantage and were mowing down the Canadians the sight of the never ending Canadians made the germans retreat.
I was born in England to Scotish Parents and also very proud of my Scottish heritage, I feel very honoured that the people of Canada,USA,Australia and New Zealand are continuing our traditions,as they seem to be dying out over here. Finally a question for gaelicscots here, if a dog is born in a stable does that then make it a horse?
@kingdomofdalriada you obviously dont come from the uk. your use of english tells me that. britain is a number of different countries who are amalgamated, ultimately ior the common good. but, we are different countries, and peoples. we have our own identities and are feircely proud of them. but., we would never go to war with each other over them. because we are civilised. my fathers family were from the north of scotland, my mothers and my wifes from ireland. my son-in-law is english who cares
@kingdomofdalriada your spelling is atrocious, and your diction. i know that you are not from the british isles. be an englishman if you want, but, you would never pass as one in scotland.
i think im with gaelicscots on this one he does have a point like you have scottish ansestry but you are an amarican not a scotsman he is right it is not a race your american like im canadian but our scottish ansestry is scottish
I too agree. I'm a mcmillan but in 1770s my blood would have been in the Macmillan clan. but I'm happy being Canadian myself. in fact never even been to scotland but I would like to one day. I would like to see my ancestors home inwhich I think it was Iona where ever that is. but i agree just because you use to be a scot 2 to 300 years ago don't mean your a scot today.
To all of you fellow Scots by ansestory, what self rightous people like gaelicscots does not understand, and I doubt ever will, is our pride in our heritage. Also I have friends in Scotland who assure me that gaelicscots does not refelect the attitude of the vast majority of native Scots, althougn I sure in his self-importance he think he does.
All i wish is that you shouldnt be so hateful to others, who all they want is to love and embrace the culture of there people, and yes it is there people if it is that place where they can trace there own roots back to, where there own family lived, died, prospered for generations, and or even left that land in search for a better life. So please, just because someone loves what there family is, dont be a hateful towards them and say such things as a "pain in the arse". What did they do 2 you.
I do not want to further progress this unnecessary argument, i love Scotland and all my family that live there today, i love my heritage and my culture, and i will always carry on their traditions. I don't know who bit you in the ass to make you so mad and hateful to people who love there own heritage and want to remember there own family and where it came from. But i don't really care what you think, because Scotland is where family came from and Scotland is a place i will always love.
Being born in Scotland does not make you scottish, nor does having scottish parents make you scottish. You can only be scottish if you were raised in scotland from an early age to adulthood. This allows scotland to change, form and mould your personality and charcter by scottish; culture, people, ideology, beliefs, sense of inward and outward perceptions, attitudes, worldview, kinship, community, behavioural traits, politics, dialect, understandings etc.
Dont dare speak for all us scots 48sp, ytour talkiong shit and you KNOW IT.
I agree with gaelic scots, I and almost everyone I know cannot stand wannabe plastic scots. Personally I think americans and canucks who "celebrate" their scottish "heritage" are generally a pain in the arse. I have been warned about them by friends and family who have travelled across the pond.
the fact remains that they never were scottish, are not scottish and never will be scottish.
hey gaelicscots, my grandparents were Scottish and even though i may have not been born in Scotland or even apart of its culture, there blood still goes through my veins and that is Scottish blood. I may not be Scottish, but hell i have a rich Scottish Heritage and i am damn proud of it, and damn proud to celebrate it. I go to Scotland every now and then and visit family over there, and "the fact remains" i love my heritage, the bagpipes (which i play), Gaidhlig, the people, and the History.
No i am not, i American, born and bred. But it doesn't and shouldn't matter if i am.
A race of people is defined as, A local geographic or global human population distinguished as a more or less distinct group by genetically transmitted physical characteristics or a genealogical line; a lineage. And they there is a race of people called the Celtic race, ex. Scots, Irish, Welsh.
And even though those peoples are genetically alike in being the Celtic race, each of them are unique races based upon there lineage and culture, and traditions also defining each of them as a race of people. There is such a thing as Scottish blood because the Scottish people have been around long enough to be defined as "Scottish", where as most Americans are made up of many different peoples, like me, i am mostly Scottish but i also have some Hungarian, and Austrian lineage
The celts are NOT a race they are a language group. The scots are also not a race, the scots are not defined as a race through anthropology or scots law and european statutue. the scots are racially north european. We are seperated by culture, geography and community. There is no racial differance between a scot, englishman, german or frenchman etc.
The fact is that if you were not raised in scotland from a young age you are NOT scottish.
As most Americans my family emigrated to the US. 1 in the mid-18th century fleeing english retribution after the Jacobite War. My G-Grandmother arrived as a young girl mid-18th century from Inverness. Most Americans take pride in their heritiage, whereever their ancestors are from, and yes some are arrogant. Just as many are in the lands thier family came from. I will leave it others to decide who is who. I will also continue to xpress my pride in being American by birth and Scott by ancestory.
ancestry does not make you scottish, the scots are not a race of people. The scots are not a defined as a race through anthropology or scots law and european statute.
The scots are no racially differant than the english, irish or germans etc.

Apologies to all our Scots-Canadian cousins for the stupid "plastic" comment. Most of us in Scotland know about our close links with Canada. My own village in Perthshire has a Canadian flag flying beside the Scots Saltire at all times. Thank you Canadians for keeping our traditions alive. Also, I LOVE to see Scottish descendents happy and prosperous under the blue North American skies. My grandfather, who grew up in poverty in the Outer Hebrides, loved Canada. He saw it as the New World.
And what are we arguing here anyways? Canada's right to have Highland regiments? To wear a ceremonial Kilt? Or to use bagpipes? Alot of this tradition dates back to Colonial times and WWI. When the majority of volunteers were actually landed Scots.
I think our country has earned that right.
Your history is interesting, you traditions are wonderful, your music is fantastic. Consider it a compliment that it is regarded in such high esteem worldwide.
Look three of my four grandparents came from Scotland, and both my Grandfathers spoke of it often to me. Regardless of the last names it is CLEAR my FAMILY is of Scottish descent/heritage.
That's alot different than saying you ARE Scottish. I'm sorry but I'm Canadian and damn proud of it. That doesn't absolve me from celebrating my heritage and my grandparents.
I can understand your frustration with people "tracing their roots" and "claiming to be Scottish" themselves. It's absurd.
I'm a Canadian of Scot heritage (Craig and Garioch).
What does that mean ? why are you refering to two last names craig and garioch. you are aware that the clan system is long dead. it is something not part of scotland anymore.
I'm a Canadian of Scot heritage (Craig and Garioch). It kinda pisses me off seeing these people claiming we are "stealing" our national image from Scotland.

We scots have to suffer countless root seekers masqearading as plastic scotsman. Making preposterous statments about dead scottih culture such as clans etc. they are ridiculous.
What's plastic about people being proud of their Scottish ancestry? I know one thing for sure and that is that you are NOT a Scottish Nationalist or a Scot. Unfortunately on the internet you can claim to be anything you want to be. It's been known for British Unionists to pasas themselves of as Scots and attacking people of Scots descent on youtube. They just hate the fact that Scotland is moving towards full independence and that there are millions of Scots worldwide would support them in this.
calling yourself a scots when you are not from scotland, never been born or raised in scotland is plastic. It makes you a fake, a wannabe and real scots find these people a pain in the arse,
So you are saying that being a Scot is nothing more than an accident - either you're born one or you're not - that doesn't sound like something too much to be proud of, is it?

Hey, MORON! Bagpipes aren't exclusive to Scotland. If you read a little more into it you'd find out the 'pipes are used all over Europe and the former British Empire, even in fucking Spain. GROW A BRAIN AND SHUT UP
juancha1228, the great highland bagpipe which is the bagpie you are watching now IS exclusive to scotland you moron. SAnd the reaosn they were played all over the world is because the scots fought in scottish regiments in the british army you MORON
That is too cool! I know him! Small world. Just minding my business, surfin youtube, and i found this! He is a great lad, had a few pints with him in my day :)
The Glengarry bonnet is the traditional headwear of Pipers in the Army. In this case the cap-badge is topped by the Primrose Hackle; awarded to the Lancashire Fusiliers (British Army) after the Battle of Spion Kop in 1900. The hackle was transferred to their allied regiment, the Lorne Scots, in 1966 when the LF were to be amalgamated into the Royal Reg't of Fusiliers. This was done to ensure the Primrose Hackle would continue to be worn by soldiers on parade, not relegated to a museum.
Great playing. I wish that when I played in public that the ladies would come up to me and ask for a kiss rather than throw money at me to stop playing. LOL.
My Grandad Was in the Tyneside Scottish regiment and served with some of the Canadian lads, he told me they where great fighting men, professional, and all round canny lads!

LOL.
