Leaders are a reflection of the people. It would be impressive if Ron Paul was allowed to lead the people. But the corporations, CFR, Federal Reserve... can easily convince all slouch potatoes that they have just two choices for the "change" that they crave. And neither choice will represent the people as the bailout vote has proven.

And how do you know the bailout choice didn't represent the people? Oh yeah that's right opinion polls. And you know what those same opinion polls say? Oh yeah that's right the vast majority approve of president elect Obama.

And how can you even hint that the bailout represents the people? How does throwing billions of (with another 800 billion added today it's over a trillion) dollars at companies and institutions who have wasted and mismanaged trillions of dollars "represent the people"? Because brilliant, benevolent leaders tell us simple-minded peons that is does and therefore I should accept that the majority was wrong about the bailout but right about Obama?

I never said it 'represents the people' but I simply trust the opinion polls, it is you who has the dilemma not me. It seems YOU are selectively choosing which opinion poll is valid and which is not. I say both are valid you apparently say only the opinion polls on the bailout are valid and Obama's approval rating is a.. hoax or something?

If the vast majority are against keeping the financial system from collapsing then indeed they are wrong, I suspect a lot of it may be a referendum on the current leadership as well as a verdict on the details of said bailout (I think they want more string attached so that AIG execs won't be partying it up) however again i don't give a fuck about the polls. I have my own opinion and the American people know damn well what choice they made on nov 4th.

We're arguing on different terms, I think. I trust opinion polls represent opinions and can assess what the opinion of the majority is. I don't trust that the majority is always right. In fact, they are often wrong. I assert HD Thoreau's "majority of one" and don't give a flip about polls except that "REPRESENT"atives went against the represented by voting for the bailout.

Doesn't matter, tho. FED just took ANOTHER 800 billion without the theatrics of a vote.

Fair enough. Now explain how giving mismanaged businesses over a trillion dollars is good? I ask this seriously because I think it defies all reason but I am willing to listen to reason, if you really have even one. The only reason I see is to keep CEOs flying in private jets and giving themselves multi-million dollar bonuses on top of obscene salaries and to keep the economy swimming in wasteful and polluting hyper-consumerism fed on credit and fiat. That and destroying the dollar.

I don't believe in cutting of your nose to spite your face. I'm a Keynesian I don't buy Austrian/libertarian bullshit so there's where our fundamental disagreement lies. Just handing it over is not ideal but it's the best we've got with a republican in office. Now if it were up to me I would save these companies but would replace managment (and possibly send them to jail) now that would be even more big government so I think you'd like it even less. But it does take care of the moral hazzard.

I think we don't disagree totally. It comes down to "moral hazard" for me. If we send criminals to jail, rather than prop up their obscenely wasteful and aristocratic positions, and saw to it that factory-WORKERS and the country benefited, I would not protest. It would take some convincing, tho. The chasm between CEOs and workers is medieval. A symbolic guillotine of holding those responsible for the chasm is where we agree. And helping workers and the country, too. I don't wear a label.
