I remember watching this race live. It was the first big aerial crash of this type after the roof flaps came in. Up 'til this, people were getting kind of smug, that roof flaps had solved the problem of cars flipping over, but this wreck showed that wasn't true. Then they mentioned afterwards that Jeff G. was "crying" on the radio back to the pits that he didn't mean to do it. Funny thing is I can't remember who actually won the race.
@JBird30761 Yes Ken Schrader was in a ton of wrecks. But if you go back and look at them, most of them were not his fault. I think sometimes he was a lilttle to gentlemanly out there.
I miss that backstrech grass over there.

Gordon caused a lot of crashes in the 1990s and no one seemed to take notice. This was just one of many.

J Gordon tapped Ken Schrader's left rear. At the time, Schrader was driving the Budweiser car and Gordon and Schrader were teammates.
isrukind1 4 years ago
As well as Terry Labonte in the Kellogs car. Just after the wreck, CBS interviewed Schrader and he had one hell of a black eye.

i bet it hurt when he fliped in the air then landed on his nose hard.

Jeff Gordon's my favorite driver, but why would he wreck his own teamate? Was he trying to bump-draft or something?

Same with Gordon backing off and not taking Schrader out here.

@nascarfanatic24 he actually didnt mean to wreck his teammate, he just ran into him too hard, just like all the other talladega wrecks.
bluetoothboy24 1 year ago
@bluetoothboy24 Yeah. It looked like I guess Jeff tried to squeeze up behind Kenny, but he misjudged, and turned him.
