the only thing i hate about this game is the Power up Mushroom. It moves at random. I mean in other super mario games when i get the mushroom it always moves to the right, but in this game sometimes it moves to the left. It's a big deal for me especially on stages that the screen automatically moves right.
@4072 It actually doesn't move at random. If you hit the block more on the left, the mushroom goes to the left, and if you hit it more on the right, it goes to the right.
hahaha I remember the tank levels. They were tought and annoying because you'd almost be at the end and then you get a flying wrench to your toe. It's also funny seeing a friend messing up. : D

This is my favorite game of all time and I have never played any game as much as this 1. I played with my cousin, with my sis or myself. Before selling my NES of course with the game (because I was a retard back then) I beat the full game without using the flute in 1 day. I was shocked myself but it wasn't suprising actually. cont/

It was a great experience and I am glad that I got my hands on a SNES and at least play the 16-Bit version, which isn't as entertaining as the original. I don't know exacly why, but after playing so much the older version the newer stuff can't really get my attention. And I am not saying its bad, it is the same game with the same power-ups, levels etc.

Wii is cheaper then XBOX and PS3, PS2 was cheaper then XBOX and Gamecube, PS1 was cheaper then saturn and N64, so if the Wii U is cheaper then PS4 and XBOX 720 it will sell alot
In games, it will have Nintendo games, so that is a guaranteed that you will have good games
whoa u made a huge mistake that u mentioned how can their be any bad aspects of this game this is one of the best nes games ever made the only enemy i really fond annoying was the giant fish in world 3 that ate u in bite and killed u even if u managed to kill it the stupid ass fish respawns in seconds but still this game is great it has great controls and a good challange especially in the last levels

I do believe this was the best game for the NES. It sold 8 times the average number copies sold, for the next 4 best selling NES games, released in 1990! Compare this to Super Mario 2, which 'only' sold 2.84 times, the average number of copies sold, for the next 4 best selling games, of 1988.

yeah its a Tanuki, its a animal much like a amaerica racoon, i hear in japan these animals are held rather high, and i can kill FIRE with it, the fire torches that are normally on the air battle ships u turn into stop while jumping onto it it and bam killed fire, rock beats paper n fire now
I have to agree about the saving aspect. I remember as a kid leaving the nes on all night just so I could finish the entire game, sans-whistle! Oh, and there's Eight Worlds....
As a kid I could only match up the mushroom in the free man slot machine game as well. Now as I've gotten older I learned to get the other ones you need to simply tap your foot or take mental note of the shape you want as it enters the screen. Once you know the rythmn it's a matter of just hitting the button at the correct timing. The top, middle and bottom pieces seem to move at different rates, so keep that in mind.
If only ONE BAD THING i could say i found about this game well it could be the CHEAP TRICK with the wisthles to warp from world to world and end somehow in the final level & then you beat the game in less than 30 minutes (yeah...i'm not joking). I mean there's no challenge in that, but in the other hand.....IT IS PERFECT, FUNNY AS HELL & SUPER ENTERTEANING.... 'til this date & i meant it (lol)
@VixXstazosJOB Well yeah you could do that if you wanted but remember if you use your two whistles right off the bat you end up in plant world with no items which is a challenge. Plus we all know you don't have to use them. The whistles make up for the fact you can't save.

i remember when i was 5 years old i played this game with my parents on nintendo console we couldn't save the game so we had to stay almost all day to play it , pause it when we had to eat :) it was a good time , i'm missing that time. This game is a legend. Mostly I like the GBA version, but hey, everyone loves Mario, including me. My favorite power-up is the Tanooki Suit. Why? You be invincible!!!!! Have you ever played the SNES version on Super Mario All Stars? I already have THAT version, but something is appealing about the NES version to me, and also just to have it on my wii would be great. Would you say if I already have the SNES version downloading the Wii one is a waste of money?

If only ONE BAD THING i could say i found about this game well it could be the CHEAP TRICK with the wisthles to warp from world to world and end somehow in the final level & then you beat the game in less than 30 minutes (yeah...i'm not joking). I mean there's no challenge in that, but in the other hand.....IT IS PERFECT, FUNNY AS HELL & SUPER ENTERTEANING.... 'til this date & i meant it (lol)

@VixXstazosJOB Well yeah you could do that if you wanted but remember if you use your two whistles right off the bat you end up in plant world with no items which is a challenge. Plus we all know you don't have to use them. The whistles make up for the fact you can't save.

@captaingangsta29 UHM It's funny but.... i really don't remember that you can't save in this game cause i've beaten this SO MANY times and i don't remember having to play the game "like a marathon" or something like that.... maybe it's the original cause the version i've played the most is the one on S M all STARS, but still....maybe i'm wrong and i'm MAKING UP THINGS XD lol

i remember when i was 5 years old i played this game with my parents on nintendo console we couldn't save the game so we had to stay almost all day to play it , pause it when we had to eat :) it was a good time , i'm missing that time. I love this i finished this more than 10 times i think when i was 14 (i found the emulator for the game, i was so happy) anyways this is a great game ,100% must have mario game

i love this game i got it for the virtual consol service the DAY it appeared on it. i had heard it would be coming out on it, and from that day forth, i checked the virtual consol EVERY SINGLE DAY.

This game is a legend. Mostly I like the GBA version, but hey, everyone loves Mario, including me. My favorite power-up is the Tanooki Suit. Why? You be invincible!!!!! My favorite level is giant land. I even like the cartoon show of this game. It was funny, epic, and sound effects from the Super Mario Brothers 3. NICE! We all LOVE MARIO!!!!!!!

@DudeCommenting I never said there weren't other enjoyable games. And I'm not trying to be like everyone else, SMB3 is the only perfect game. If you doubt me, refer to 15 years worth of the Nintendo Power charts, sales figures, resale value, replayability.
Also, bad grammar decreases the strength of your argument.

it not the eskimo suit, but the hammer suit. and the one turning into stone, is called the tanooki suit. the regular flying power-up however is called the racoon suit.

Your dad used to play games with you? You lucky bastard :) ! My father never did that, he only liked Racing games, and I hated those. He always used to tell me (and still does) that gaming is a waste of time and when I talk about game programming he thinks it's a waste of talent. And that's a real shame, because the truth is that games like these were precisely the games that Nintendo tries to make now. They can be enjoyed by virtually anyone, regardless of your age, gender, etc.

In my opinion the fast scrolling flying ship was the worst level. I still cannot beat that level without a powerwing. And it's called tanoki, (I probably misspelled that) mario, (pronounced tan new key)

Have you ever played the SNES version on Super Mario All Stars? I already have THAT version, but something is appealing about the NES version to me, and also just to have it on my wii would be great. Would you say if I already have the SNES version downloading the Wii one is a waste of money?
