  • what does this have to do with britain? this happened in texas in the

    US

  • @ShotokanBleach Madmen with weapons exist everywhere. We the people of the world need to have an advantage over them. Which is why all firearms must be legal. No compromise.

  • If i get a gun, load it, and put in on a table and tell it to shoot someone, does it shoot anyone = No.

If i get that same gun and hand it to some gang member, does it kill anyone = Yes.

People kill people, a gun is just a tool.

  • Gun control only works with law abiding citizens . When population is disarmed, this is just to serve others political aims . Security is only a "reason" .

  • this is one brave intelligent woman i love her way of intelligent thinking we need women like her in the uk

  • fuck uk gun control its time to fight back people, gather with me

  • The reason why they hated him,was because he was a slimy, creep,he had an unhealthy interest,in young boys,as it was his obession-making those men,who were fathers themselves, very uncomfortable&sick, too. He showed them pictures of semi-naked school boys,in swimming trunks, too. He called his handguns 'my babies' and constantly figited with them.He was a mason&so was the cheif constable, which is why he was allowed to get away with child abuse&have his license renewed, every 5 years.Who's guilty now?

  • The Gun Control Networks are a bunch of liars,as what they write about, which ultimately is, just blatent propaganda.Gun haters, will do anything,to get as result&they are as honest as the Flying Squad was,in the days of Operation Countyman,in the 70s.For example, the UK GCN,headed by Gillian Marshall-Andrews,claims that Thomas Hamilton was well liked,by his gun club members& was encouraged to break the rules of Practical Pistol,by being wreckless, when in fact they hated the bastard with a passion.

  • Apparently the same dys-functional system of law exists in the UK as the USA. Career, Violent, Repeat Offenders encouraged by the courts, to run amok within Law Abiding Society. This 'Crisis based' system then allows the Government to take away the 'Subjects' rights, in order to ostensibly, 'Protect' the Subjects. Circular logic at best. Totalitarian, Dictatorial control at the worst.. The UK is now set up for a Dictator..

  • Guns are not taken to reduce crime. They know the statistics. Guns are taken to control and further the plans of the elite.

  • GOD Bless ya Brother!

  • And how did the guy get the gun in first place?

  • does it matter? they guy went in to do a murder suicide when you arent planning on living afterwards GETTING a gun ANY gun is pretty simple. look at what happened in dunnblane. or columbine there is no way to predict when someone is gonna go psycho. kill a bunch of people and then himself. what if he used a pickup truck and killed the same people? would you still blame the NRA? or the Ford co? or i dont know mabey blame THE PSYCHO!!! we are all responsible for our own actions.

  • If you look at the amount of gun control a country has its never proven to effect the amount of violence and death. Infact in a lifetime some of the country with the highest violent death rates have had the strictest gun control. Sensible gun controls are a good but to think outlawing guns will stop violence & death is nieve & simply not true. You need to stop the violent criminals to do this. they will continue to maim and kill no matter what weapons they have or have not got

  • I totally agree. The more you look at it, the more you see that there is no correlation between gun laws and violent crime. They are a pointless exercise.

  • Agree its more to do with crime than anything. If some one is going to kill some one they are going to do it one way or another.

  • "its never proven to effect..." sorry but that's just not true and you haven't factored in other considerations like "that" country being in a civil war, run by a dictator etc. The amount of house robberies involving guns in the UK is relatively unheard of. The guy that this girl speaks of most likely will not have had a gun if the US had gun laws that actually worked. So u want proof that the media like to spin bullshit?.....ok....here is the proof....NOT ALL GUNS ARE BANNED IN THE UK.

  • The UK had one of the lowest gun crime rates in the world even before they introduced stringent gun control. For example since the general hand gun ban gun crime and actual bodily harm involving hand guns did not drop. Its actually increased ten years in a row. The problem is that guns are out there. Its like illegal drugs, they may be illegal but they are still very easy to get hold of. In the same way if you make guns illegal people will still get hold of them.

  • The only problem is if you do make them illegal the only people who will have them are criminals. Not exactly a ideal situation to be in.

  • arm yourself mate

  • you keep telling those lies to yourself, yet i think you don't believe them either..

Nobody is hating on you, and if you'll admit you're wrong on your %s, that's fine with me.

  • whats youre point? switzerland requires every male who has been in the army to have a gun, and it has lower gun crime than britain, also look at sweden, finland. India has one of the strictest gun laws on earth and look what happened to mumbai recently. The point is that Gun control only makes the decent civilians more helpless. I live in britain and 20 years ago the police didn't need any bullet proof vests, now; the criminals are more armed than the police.

  • You didn't mention Australia. We are having a big rise in shooting by motorcycle gangs lol. Looks like our gun laws worked very well huh? Fucking idiot

  • Actually, you're not right either.

This is because you failed to provide a source for your claims for proof and evaluation.

In other words, since you cannot prove your position, you likely could be lying or making your information up.

Do not use data and conclusions as evidence without providing a credible source.

  • Gun's were not invented for murder. In fact pistols are self defense weapons not assault weapons. How do guns relate to murder. Killings by knives and blunt weapons are higher in the U.S. then they are with guns.

  • As for Japan and South Korea, their low crime rate is because their society's culture and the people's attitudes towards themselves and authority are fundamentally different to that of Western societies. And, what works there doesn't necessarily work in nations like the U.K. or the U.S.

As for England having low murder rates: what's the breakdown? Specifically: who were killed and why? For instance: some stats include police shootings of suspects in the tally, which can't count for murder.

  • In addition, Scotland, England, and Wales overall violent crime rate is higher than the U.S. according to the U.N.

An interesting story for your reading:

    (worldwideweb)(d0t) reason (d0t)(c0m)/news/show/28582(d0t)[html]

  • An interesting quote from the article:

"The murder rates of the U.S. and U.K. are also affected by differences in the way each counts homicides. The FBI asks police to list every homicide as murder, even if the case isn't subsequently prosecuted or proceeds on a lesser charge, making the U.S. numbers as high as possible."

  • "By contrast, the English police 'massage down' the homicide statistics, tracking each case through the courts and removing it if it is reduced to a lesser charge or determined to be an accident or self-defense, making the English numbers as low as possible."

  • Yes, you can massage down gun deaths, specifically eliminating numbers that legally can't be considered murder, such as a case that is not prosecuted.

The FBI apparently counts any lethal shooting as a murder, even if a defendant is exonerated of the crime (proven not guilty or case dismissed before a verdict is passed).

The U.K. authorities, OTOH, apparently count murders only if a crime is successfully prosecuted as such.

That difference in procedure will greatly affect the tallies.

  • What about people who ignore the law?

A law is only as good as it's obeyed and enforced.

And the efficaciousness of law and order is never reliant on just one factor of crime rates. On that end, the United Nations did indicate that the United Kingdom is among one of the most violent nations in overall violent crime.

  • In addition, comparisons are extremely complex to make between the U.K. and the U.S. because of the differences in size of the countries, the sheer number of cities in the U.S. with their own laws and customs from villages to metropolises, variations of law enforcement in these regions, and so on. The U.S. is too diverse to make a brief comparison with the U.K. of any worth.

However, in the same U.N. statistic, the U.S. has rated lower than the U.K. on overall violent crime.

  • But, despite a low national average of violent crime in the U.S., remember that the U.S. is largely varied from region to region. A national average won't tell you anything specific, so there are some cities that are safer than the average and others more dangerous.

While you are at high risk of attack in places like Washington, D.C., you are safer if you live in states like Vermont or Maine.

Curiously though, Maine and Vermont have lax gun control laws while D.C. had a gun ban for 30 years.

  • Maine, Vermont, and D.C. claims: United States Department of Justice.

  • With an increase of 40% in one year, after the gun ban...how can you justify that fact!

  • No shit, Sherlock.

However, without the firearms, you crazy fucks do wonders with butcher knives and hatchets.

  • What year are you looking at warriorprice1010? The newest I could see of hand were for 2002 and from the UN. The showed the UK can considerably higher murder rate.

    Population UK ~49,561,800 murders 1201

    Population France ~59,765,983 murders 1051

    Population Spain ~40,037,995 murders 494

    Population Switzerland ~7,554,661 murders 213

  • But look at these figures as Per Capita - so number of murders per 1M population. Switzerland comes out worse of all.

  • I think you may have worked that out the wrong way round BedsnHerts. It works out UK withthe highest murder rate and Switzerland with the lowest.

  • Don't think so.

213 murders in a population of 7.55 Million is one murder for every 35,000 people. That's the highest rate.

UK is second highest at 1 murder for every 41,000 people.

Spain is the lowest at 1 murder for every 81,000 people.

I'd also dispute MooFree's figures for the UK - 1201 is the all-UK murder figure, but 49.56M is only the population of England. Total UK population at 2002 was 59.3 million, so 1 murder for every 49,000 people.

  • Comment removed

  • Odds of being murdered in the UK and 0.0140633 to 1,000 odds of being murdered in Switzerland is is only 0.00921351 to 1,000. Now there are many reason this could be so but the one thing that stands out is that it is a significantly safer place even though virtually every household has assault rifles and/or handguns.

  • liar. you know it's a made up lie. Switzerland has almost NO gun violence at all.. and it's THE most armed country in the World!

  • What is the context of these numbers? Where did you get them from and what are they reffering to? They look as if there relatively old gun death rates is this correct? Id so it does not say much. It does not matter how some one is murdered there still dead. Have a look at the total murders and you may get a shock.

  • Also In Australia in 1996 the gun laws changed drastically to some of the strictest in the world. The amount of legally held guns in the country dropped to a fraction of what it was, yet gun crime increased not decreased.

  • Safer place? Armed robbery's were up 44% after the ban. also assaults and murders were up. Safer for the armed criminals perhaps but not the law abiding general public. Not by a long shot.

  • Point was that guns dont directly correlate to crime. Your point can be applied to the gun death numbers. eg Switzerland almost 9/10 gun deaths are suicides where the UK its closer to 1/9. Cant blaine the gun for this. People are going to kill them self if they have a gun or not. According to the UN your more likely to be a victim of crime in the UK than the US and less than half as likely again to be a victim in Switzerland. Cant really just stick to guns as there is a much bigger picture.

  • I understand anti gun and ideally no one should have a gun or weapon of any sort. However there are countless examples of where tighter gun restrictions had no effect to reduce crime or actually increased crime. Most of the laws have just served to disarm the victims and made them a soft target to the criminals. So its no wonder this is so. The only way you can successfully disarm is to go after the criminals first before you try and disarm the general public.

  • russia has the biggest murder rate in the world

  • which is exactly why i have a gun

  • Russia is a developed country by all stndings.

  • Yet gun related murders were lower before the ban..

  • Gun deaths for 2008 in the UK were the lowest for 20 years. The UK gun laws have indeed worked.

  • Well after a two hundred percent increase following the ban, it's a breath of fresh air.

  • Guns death have fallen ever since we banned guns. The UK has the lowest gun deaths per person of any country in Europe.

  • Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Spain and Switzerland have lower, despite Germany and Switzerland having higher ownership rates.

  • All those countries have higher gun deaths than the UK. England has the lowest in Europe, fact.

  • Sure buddy, whatever you say, i've seen different facts

  • Estonia 12.26; Northern Ireland 6.63; Finland 6.46; Switzerland 5.31; France 5.15; Canada 4.31; Norway 3.82; Austria 3.70; Portugal 3.20; Israel 2.91; Belgium 2.90; Australia 2.65; Slovenia 2.60; Italy 2.44; Denmark 2.09; Sweden 1.92; Kuwait 1.84; Greece 1.29; Germany 1.24; Hungary 1.11; Republic of Ireland 0.97; Spain 0.78; Netherlands 0.70; Scotland 0.54; England and Wales 0.41; South Korea 0.12; Japan 0.05.

  • Absolutely fantastic. Maybe my country needs to take a look at this.
