Well, you can argue with the semantics. Gretzky is just being modest. His game sense and playmaking skills were above even Lemieux's, and that may make him the most skilled player by definition. But it's certainly a toss between the two; as a power forward, Lemieux is undoubtedly the best ever.

You could also argue that Brett Hull is the purest goal scorer ever.

Roy is better than Brodeur in my opinion. He is much more technically sound than Brodeur. Regardless of what stats say, head to head, with identical competition, Roy will win 9 out of 10 times, largely due to his precision and technicality.

The conn smythes in the case of Roy was because he stole a bunch of very important games which the habs would've otherwise lost.Brodeur played for a team that was insanely defensive and rarely allowed shots from huge scoring positions. I'm not saying Brodeur is bad. There have been games where brodeur faced many good shots and stopped the all. But I still prefer Roy.
