  • Greg! I can do most of this except how do you play in the altissimo range? im in grade 11 and hate switching from soprano to alto and back again for songs that need a super high range that is not accessible by any normal blowing and fingerings (Highest f#) I would love to know what you do with your embouchure or mouth whatever you want to call it e.g. looser tighter pinch ? thanks Josh!

  • You are a god of the saxophone. o:

  • Good God that was good!!!

I would have never thought I'd find ANOTHER favorite version of my favorite song! Thanks for sharing your talent. Is EXCELLENT!!!

  • @johnboyjwg I TOTALLY agree !!! I'm really very particular about sax players I like a lot (mostly because I play the sax, too) but Greg does such a phenomenal job of expressing intense passion AND also has great technique -- and it's all rolled into one standard tune. Impressive to say the least. :)

  • I hear this piece again and again and never tire of listening to excellent saxophonist

  • where can I get the notes for this???

  • É A ONDA QUE EU GOSTO DE SAX :)

  • NICE! That altissimo stuff was so hip, and I think you even used chirps artistically in that. Thanks

  • @FrankSax77 -- thanks Frank!

  • what do u normaly play on alto or tenor

  • @wade43100 - normally is a funny word. I play more tenor than anything live but often gigs place me on the alto more.

  • hahahai just noticed. watch the guitarist face at 2:29 when GV plays that mid octave note hahahah. "Wow that sounded good"

  • incredible man incredible!!!!

  • wow... awesome

  • @rapz2205

Oh shit hahaha i don't even know what i said but your reaction is PRICELESS.

  • WOW... WOW... hahaha wow...

  • I love this song, and appreciate the nice sax changes there..but this song is meant to be soothing and beautiful, and I think you might have over done it a bit..

  • Splendida versione....... grande suono!!

  • i actually like the way the drums put a sence of drama into the song

  • truly inspiring indeed! I am amazed at your great use of altissimo to move the peice forward. Agreed however about the drumer, unfortunate how loud he was, but AMAZING SIR!

  • sax great ,drums to loud bass I like it just a little distorted once again if drums were half of the volume the video could

    be much much better.

  • that must be real hard

  • I love this song, I wish I could get the sheet music, so that I can play it. Nice song to use as a calm down song in a gig.

  • very rare that ppl with sax can actually justify it and deserve to plat it this guy is one of them who is doing justice to it........

  • o.o

  • incredible!!

  • wow...

  • awesome solo man

  • sax was good , the drummer overplayed..too much cymbals...just a nice rythm to the melody..a simple rythm to support the melody..not the other way around..annoying cymbals...

  • greg vail kicks ass

  • Smokin"!!!!!!!!

  • I accidentally clicked on this video and it is one of the best saxophone performances I've ever heard.

  • same here

  • ABSOLUTELY AMAZING.

  • what kind of reed are you using on this?

  • Rico Royal Plastic Cover 2 1/2

  • to be on a 2.5 rico royal and to get that sound the facing on the mouthpiece must be pretty open. What kinda mouthpiece you playin on? Sounds good!

  • @gvSAXBOY Between Rico and Vandore reed wich one is better?

  • @estesoyojajaja - for me - I use Rico Royal Plastic Cover!

  • @gvSAXBOY are there reed made of plastic?

  • @estesoyojajaja - Pastic coated are the ones I use by Rico Royal. There are also many synthetic plastic type reeds available today - I have tried a few - Bari makes a popular name brand.

  • ive been playin sax for 2 days and im way better than him!!!........only messin!!!ill be ninety by the time i can play like that!!!

  • Fantastic - You can taste Greg's solo..!

  • Wow! This is beautiful, it's so inspiring! It's music like this which makes me want to play the tenor so bad.

    Jaw dropping!

  • tenors not all that fun if ur not as good as him. dripping spit, soar neck, dirty-stinky-moldy-disgusting reeds. its worth it tho lmao.

  • hahahahah

  • AAAAAAAAAAAAhhhh!!!!! you are the man!!! GOD bless you Greg :D

  • Excuse me while I pick my jaw up off the floor. Tone is ridiculous! Awesome set of performances!

  • Ive watched nearlly all your videos!!! You are soo good, Ive just finished grade 8 and Im looking to improve my playing, I want to improvise like you, How can I go about that? lol

I play the alto, and Im thinking of taking up tenor cause I love the sound, what mouth piece and ligature do you use? Your tone is insane, I love your style. Im also listening to Eric Darius at the mo, any other artists you recommend? Thanks

  • To improve your playing you just have to get all around it. Listen lots! Find more players to get ideas from. Don't limit yourself to just newer and younger guys, but include the masters like Coltrane, Parker and newer stars like Brecker and Redman. My mouthpieces are Guardala's with Selmer ligs or Ishimori ligs. Just get music all around you and steal all the stuff you think is really cool. Listen to 3-4 guys at a time so you dont sound too much like just one guy, and change 1 of them monthly.

  • Really nice!!! Keep it up!
