  • what's the namr of this artist ?

  • @ess91am The one who made "Por Una Cabeza" is Carlos Gardel.

  • Here we go again!Argentins are so protective of their tangos that no one outside their country can touch tangos. Vadin Repin "singing violin" is the closest to Gardel's interpretation

  • Well, this is the death of Por Una Cabeza. This isnt tango. Horrible. There are part where seems like flamenco music. What the hell is this??? My god. Search Por Una Cabeza, and then tell me if this make justice to that.

  • 2:44 amazing

  • @bartok75 Well he did, until he changed it...

  • @MacRief i actually meant the title shown in the video itself. the orchestral version is arranged by john williams anyway. i just thought that you didnt need to call the uploader retard. be grateful he uploaded this video ;)

  • @MrFvasconcellos thank you~~

  • Excellence Dynamics. I Love it...

  • The most recognizable portion of the melody is inspired by Mozart's Rondo for violin and orchestra in C major, K. 373.

  • this song always reminds me of Al Pacino's charming kind to dance Tango. HU AH

  • @meowcatcool I agree. I also think itzak pearlman played it way better.

  • Wow. wonderful. Love this song, absolutely beautiful. Great violin..

  • I prefer the violin solo to be alittle more slurry...

  • i think that the solo guy need to stick up more to the song and stop doing bullshit solo's of his own because hi ruins every body else's great performance

  • @loper4o I'm not sure you understand the point of this arrangement. It was arranged for solo violin, so of course he's going to do his "bullshit" solos.

  • Just for once can some film director use another tango song besides Por Una Cabeza? There are so many beautiful tango songs that the world can be exposed to hearing.

  • @luisllaury why always someone has to say something bad! read the fuckin title of the video says: Tango (FROM the scent of a woman) doesnt say that the name is scent of a woman!! fuck's sake!

  • 12 people don't have ears.

  • bad sound of the violin

  • It is from the Scent of A Woman Soundtrack...

  • Why's Ricky Gervais playing the violin?

    Magnifico.

  • all pales in comparison to the perlman playing - i am no one to judge - I wish I could play 1/100th as the guy playing in this video - but after listening to perlman's playing - some parts sound like ground glass to me

  • 'Por una Cabeza' is perfect, in this John William´s arrangement. The movie is too really great. Sure thah we can´t forget about Piazzola heritage, his briefing is eternal. Really awesome video.

  • LMAO...head lock from 2:47 to 2:52

  • What a great version.....

  • It's all actually good that the music is revived and shared with all of us, no need to haggle over trivial issues. The movies that use these music pieces also contribute to popularize them and kept alive for all of us. Fantastic piece by legendary Gardel and Le Pera. Notice also that some of the melody is borrowed from Mozart's rondo for Violin and Orchestra in C, all good stuff people...let's share and enjoy...cheers!

  • respect with Carlos Gardel. This song was written by him and Alfred. Change the copyright.

  • If I'm not mistaken this was also used in Titanic and Schindler's list.

  • It's Repin, and he's repin' the violin

  • Tango "From" the movie <-- Scent of woman ^^

just saying u can hear this song and watch al pacino dancing this in the movie

    "Scent of woman"

  • Bravo!

  • repin does a fine job here. great venue

  • happywandy457, if you listen to the sequences, you will find that Carlos Gardel

seemed to to know as you call in german "Eine Mediantenmodulation" . You can

find this in Bruckners Symphonies. That means a step to another tonality by use

of its middle tones. Simply astonishing!

    Hans Fröhlich - Germany

  • yea, por una cabeza, true, man this piece is so romantic. one of my favorites.

  • wonderfull....

  • Summer Concert from the Waldbuhne. where it it? i would love to go there!

  • astor piazzolla version is the best!

  • Hey DUDE please use the copyrights!

    its from Carlos Gardel !!!

  • @ostuhl y no te olvides de Alfredo Le Pera

  • The song was composed by Carlos Gardel. It was featured in the movie Scent of a Woman, but was not written specifically for it. John Williams later arranged it for orchestra.

  • Im confused. The user just said it was FROM the scent of a woman. Didn't day that the name was the scent of a woman. So which way is it? Is is NOT from the scent of a woman?

  • This is not "Scent of a Woman"... The actual name is "Por Una Cabeza" by Carlos Gardel and Alfredo Le Pera. Please get it right; I believe they deserve that. Great piece!

  • @luisllaury the title is right, the song is indeed Por Una Cabeza, but it was used in the movie scent of a woman.

  • @luisllaury He doesn't say that the name is "the scent of a woman", he just says that it's from the movie The Scent of a Woman.

  • @luisllaury dude it was used IN scent of a woman for the Tango scene.

  • @luisllaury Yes ! Viva GARDEl y ARGENTINA !!! ( from Japan )

  • @luisllaury but mostly known from the movie i think

i mean yes there respect but this song is good intepretet in scent of woman by al pacino the best actor of all time

  • Comment removed

  • @luisllaury I really do hate when they get the names wrong... for fuck's sake we're not talking about a nobody! It's Carlos Gardel! and Alfredo le Pera they always get Astor's pieces wrong as well... oh well c'est la vie!

  • @luisllaury LOL!

  • @luisllaury read the fucking title you fool FROM Scent of a Woman.

  • @chrispark27 You're the fool. Look at the title that comes up on the actual video at about 0:35. It calls the piece "Scent of a Woman" and credits John Williams as the composer, which he's not.

  • @luisllaury 佢都無話係 Scent of a Woman 佢話''from''啊 傻仔

  • @luisllaury

Thanks for putting the correct name. Yes, they do deserve to have the name put right, and is good that there is still people who care about looking the correct information.

  • the conductor is Jansons!

    he's famous! And also awsome!

    Vadim I LOVE U~

  • @s19850615

    Maria Jansons?!

  • ah sorry, but he does not look just like a Maria.

His name is Mariss Jansons. One of our best conductors, as in my humble opinion.

    BR, Mike

  • ***** WONDERFUL *****

  • I know both Repin and Janssons, great musicians, had although a great fun looking at the maestro conducting as if it were Brahms or Tchaikowskiy :-)

  • Desde el olor de una mujer.

TE LA DEDICO CLAUDIA MI CIELO!!!!!

    ¡¡¡¡¡¡TE AMOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

  • anyone else count how many times al pacino says 'whoo ha' in this movie?

    cuz i did and i think it's 16 times.

i'm pretty sure i just won the "no life" award.

  • This is what "mozart 521314" forgot to inform: Por una cabeza by Carlos Gardel and Alfredo Le Pera.

    Conductor: Mariss Jansons

    Perfomer: Vadim Repin

    Orchestra/Ensemble:

    Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra

    Period: 20th Century

    Written: 1935; Argentina

    Notes: Arranged by John Williams.

  • @pepyton1 thank you

  • @pepyton1 its mozart5201314

  • Let us suit that rhythm with which it is performed For A Head it is not in fact a tango. Anyway, it sounds very well and the melody is faithful to Carlos Gardel's composition.

  • Details that I would like to know and who offered this video, it should respect them and to inform.

The song not only refers to horse head, but also to wman head. It is an ALLEGORY. Lose in horses career is as losing love of a fatal and impossible woman. More than half of the poetry refers to woman love. Lose "for a head" means "almost" lose, lose minimumly, lacked little to win, but got lost equally, same as that love that poet expresses as a madness of love.

  • In the first place, I am surprised that the song has been presented so:

    John Williams

    Esence of a woman

    Tango.

And regrettably, it is not named Carlos Gardel. As well it is known, he is been born in Tolouse, France and grown in Buenos Aires from very young, no matter how much the Uruguayans invent another thing.

It is obvious that musical arrangements belong to John Williams. But, who is this orchestra's director and who is the violinist? (I gon on)

  • violinist: Vadim Repin

I do not know the conductor, sorry.

  • excellent!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • wow... and more... wow!

  • what "por una cabeza" mean in English ? can anyone tell ?

  • Comment removed

  • it can b undestood of many ways.. but Carlos Gardel want to mean this: A compulsive equine apostante compares his misfortune in the love with the vain illusion of glory that is given in a final head to head between two horses in the careers.

    Font: Wikipedia

  • In English it means "By a Head".

  • google that shit

  • from wilki "by the head of a horse"

  • Por una cabeza = because of a head

  • In a horese race, when a horse wins for only the head as advantage to the others.

So because of the head...por una cabeza

  • Gardel's masterpiece, I'm not Argentinean or Uruguayan but i feel proud for our sudamerican music.

"Por una cabeza" mean literally "for a head" , but contextually the best traducement is "by a horse's head" in the lyrics the singer loses everything in horse races bets.

  • Hermano, se dice ''translation'' no traducement xD

  • yeah, sorry my english is lame XD. Gracias por la correccion.

  • this tango is called "por una cabeza" composed more than 70 years ago with lyrics from carlos gardel and music of alfredo le pera ,both with argentinian citizenship...

the song is regarding to a gambler who spends all his money in horse races,so he compares his sentimental life with horse races .where he bet all of him for one women(instead of a horse) then realizes he is a loser.(apologize myself about my english)

  • Cutegirly116! Do you play the violin! How wonderful - keep up the good work.

  • 2:56

  • This piece is so beautiful and rich I cant get enough of it! I have played for 12 yrs and lm learning this song right now! I fell in love with this song the min I listened to it! ♥

  • Violon speaks for emotioms .

He is actually making his violon CRY.

  • POR UNA CABEZA

  • This makes me smile and cry at the same time.:)

  • I also like, this one, more than Perlman's.

  • i have to disagree...i think perlman is far more charming and cleaner...but i guess that's just one man's opinion :)

The letter was composed by Alfredo Le Pera Singapore in 1935.

Le Pera was a great friend and partner of Carlos Gardel, died with him in Colombia.

  • Perlman's glitzy cutesy rendition is too personalized, and detracts.

The violin part speaks for itself, all those Itzy Bitzy embellishments are lost here and good riddance.

    Sometimes less is better. Bravo!

  • Actually this violinist, which I have to say I do not know him but I think he's magnificent, and Itzhak Perlman play exactly the same notes, and actually the violinist here adds more to what is written in the score, very minimal, at the end in the glissando and at approx. 2:06 he actually plays, I think, an octave lower for a couple of measures.

  • I agree with you, the notes may be the same, and I have a nose mouth and ears just like Brad Pitt does, but I'm no Brad Pitt.

HOW you play is what I talked to, and Perlie's attack seems too flamboyant, and this fellow just right.

Love this music and was haunted by the fact I'd heard it elsewhere, when in fact, I probably had, since it is 75 year old music.

  • Vadim Repin I believe. Seeing him play Brahms tomorrow. =)

  • I like his playing more than Itzhak Perlman

  • not my favorite version of this song

  • why does this say john williams at the start? While i know he did a recording of this he certainly didnt compose it

  • He wrote the arrangement.

  • Does anyone have the sheet music in violin for this tango?

  • Gardel, the Italian, did write this in the 1920's for Hollywood for a Valentino movie. Yes, the original does have lyrics, but is usually performed without. John Williams arranged it for "Scent of a Woman" with Iszak Perlman playing lead violin. It was then used in 2 other films. One was a spy film with Arnold Schwartzeneger the other was "Schindler's List".

  • I'm sorry, but what's hell is that?, First Carlos Gardel was born in France, but became Argentinian citizen in 1923. Second, he composed this song in 1935, and is called "Por una cabeza".

There is noting to do with Valentino and 1920. Please, find out before you write something!!! Thanks

  • Por una Cabeza!!!.. Todas Sus locuras!!!..

Por una Cabeza is definetly one of the best songs...

    GRande Gardel!!..=p Tango che!!..

  • Vadim Repin is just unbeilivable.. And by the way, this isn't the original of the Tango.. The original is played by Perlman and it is by John Williams, based on Carlos Gardel SONG, Por una Cabeza...

  • Neither John Williams or Carlos Gardel composed this. Vadim Repin did.. At least he improvised around the Tango Por una Cabeza written by John Williams for Itzhak Perlman. Great Performance.. as always.. Wonder where I could get the music for that piece.. ?

  • A fine performance, but it seemed so stiff in comparison to the Williams and Perlman rendition.

  • maravilhoso!!!!!

  • That was awesome! I'm glad that Jerry "The King" Lawler plays the violin. He makes it so dudely!

  • stupendoooo

  • Fantabulous!!!! Loved it and felt it! Bravo!

  • Williams did this arrangement of Por Una Cabeza for the movie "Scent of a Woman". I agree he is definitely not the original composer and the title at the start is misleading.

    Excellent performance btw! :)

  • I think they're playing the John Williams Signature Edition version. I have the sheet music sitting in front of me.

  • No, Williams did not write this particular arrangement for the film 'Scent of a Woman.' The version heard in the film is the original Gardel version for string quartet; it is also heard in this original version in films such as the aforementioned Scent of a Woman, and also True Lies and Schindler's List. The version performed here is Williams' arrangement of Gardel's original composition, and was arranged specifically for and dedicated to Perlman, who made it a showpiece for himself.

  • Williams did not write this arrangement for the film Scent of a Woman, but rather specifically for Perlman. He based it on Gardel's original version which was essentially for string quartet; Gardel's original is what is heard in films like Scent of a Woman, True Lies, and Schindler's List.

  • Excelent!!! WOOOW
