@alexancia5279 i would not go to ATP. ATP is just as bad. Before we're released from CFI school we had to write a "positive" review of our experiences but I'd say 90% of the guys who go there hate it. Try American Flyers. I hear great things about them, at least the Chicago branch.

I was just wondering if you enrolled in the Fast-Paced Career Pilot Program at ATP. If so, did you like the fast pace? Did you get the guaranteed instructor job? After finishing college I am thinking of enrolling in the 150 day fast pace track and any advice would be appreciated. It's awesome that you get paid to do what you love and I hope that one day I can achieve the same thing. God Bless.
Hey Brew, I'm glad you had a good time at ATP, and congrats on making Captain. I'd say 2 years and 10 months is not bad at all. I've been looking into ATP myself, but first I'm working on an AS or BS in a media arts field this year. Why don't you set the record straight for all the people who think you still make 13-20k per year?
@brewyou Hey bud, I'm starting at ATP on monday. I already have my Private, so I'm starting with the Multi & Instrument. Any tips? Congrats on the promotion!
I'm glad he had fun at ATP, but now he's making what at Colgan?? like 20k a yr? Not only is colgan cheap, but it's also not safe because the pilots aren't experienced.. to put it bluntly, he was better off joining the military
@Frogboss6 your stupid if you think you can join the military and become a pilot just because you want to. Hardly anyone there gets picked for pilot, and btw.. you have to sign a contract for 10 years of your life in what ever airplane or helicopter they choose to give you.
@Frogboss6 u fly for colgan for like 5 years.. and u will enough hours to join the major airlines... it all starts in smaller airlines such as colgan. God Bless!
@Frogboss6 You're an idiot, sorry but it's true. First off it isn't about the money, yeah he makes around 20K a year, but so what? Eventually he will have the hours and experience to fly bigger jets and make 250k a year. So gtfo. Also to say he would be better off in the military is completely wrong. They only have so many pilot slots a year and that depends on the demand, and not only that but the politics of military flying is pathetic. Don't get me wrong, the military is great, just annoying.
The answer is simple APPP Time Building Central. $80.00 per hr WET for PIC multi in our Seneca 1 aircraft flying all over the USA. Watch our you tube video!!!
worst... flight school... ever... it's like taking a drink of water using a fire hose crammed down your throat. Nothing but time builders, and mistake makers. I've worked with NUMEROUS former ATP students and they hate every bit of them.
@Ps3capt the ONLY and I mean ONLY thing I would go to ATP for is a Multi-Comm. add-on. But even that is only because they have nice Seminole's, equipment, and cross country, time building instructors. So, great planes, and terrible think for themselves instructors.
@cfiacademy1 Once he racks up a few thousand hours at Colgan and gets that captain promotion, I bet he can afford to go to Vegas at least a few time /yr.
hey man do you have any degree? before went to ATP? just curious I heard a lot of things about being regional/commercial? I want to make sure, thank you so much
Great vid, i hope you get what you're aiming for in the future! Just wondering, do you need a degree to fly for major airlines? I've heard yes and no to this question, anyone want to clarify it?
well to fly with the majors it is recommended that you have a 4 year degree. but due to the competitive nature of aviation a 4 year degree is really requierd to give you the best chances of getting the job.
great videoe and congratulations! im starting the airline career training program (instrument - MEI) in phoenix next week. how exactly does the coast-to-coast cross country work? also, is the citation included for the high alititude endorsement or do u have to pay extra for the jet transition?
The first time I flew 66A it had I think about 100 hrs on it! It smelled like a new car. As for the cross countries I just got lucky I guess oh and as for the close flying.... Thank my roommate and instructors at that time!! :)
How many hours did 766A have when you flew it? It was the first and nicest 2000 model I flew. They don't like us here in ATL, all I've ever flown is 79's. Every time we get a 2000 on the ramp some X-C guys come and take it 30 mins. later. Anyways congrats on everything and enjoy flying.
You got to do the grand tour on your X-Countries...I did make it out to Dallas, up to Richmond and down to Ft. Lauderdale, but your trips seemed better. Thats cool how you got a chance to fly side-by-side with another Seminole.
I think I can "Hack It" lets see- Alaska part 135 Air Taxi Pilot, CFI, CFII, MEI, ATP, ERJ145 Type. The flight schools pray on uneducated kids with dreams of being an airline pilot without being honest about the hardships they will face when they start their career at a regional airline. I am just trying to educate and not feed the hype. Please don't attack me for offering an insiders view of the industry.
The paycheck will destroy all those great feelings. Trust me, it is not as it seems. Regional airline pilot life is very difficult. I made less than $20,000/yr. and I worked for a good regional that flew jets. ---One Regional airline ordered pilots to stop wearing their pilot uniforms to the welfare office while the pilots were trying to get food stamps! True Story. Think long and hard about this career.
Flying has been a great experience, but the lifestyle is a very difficult one. Considering reserve away from home, the poverty level pay and furloughs. I am just saying there are much much better flying jobs than regional airlines. If you can get on with a regional at the start of a boom you might make it to the point where you can earn a little money. Just be prepared to earn $20k to $30k/yr. for the first 3 years, while paying back your $400 to $500 a month student loan. Good Luck!
it depends on how much you fly per month. $70 an hour is good but airlines like Southwest pay 5 year FO's more than $100 an hour according to airline pilot central.
DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT get your Private at ATP!!! I had already gotten my Private at an FBO (Thank God) when I enrolled in the ACPP program. I was appalled by the lack of ground sessions and they train you for the check ride.
The idea of an ATP trained Private Pilot is terrifying to me. I went all the way through the program and have been a CFI for 3 years.
ATP requires one thing as a prerequisite and it is very imporant to them... your money!
Getting that letter saying that you got that regional job is one of the best feelings in the world isent it? I cant wait until i get that letter in a few years. one question... did you attend a 4 year college? if so where?
Whats confusing is getting your ATPL. Someone has to explain it better to me. Like, you have to take a course to get it, or is it gotten after a number of hours? And how much would the course probably cost?
ATP is a very fast program. If I had to choose, I would go with your local school. Smaller schools tend to be more personal and you get to know the staff and instructors which is always nice. Of course maybe, you are not interested in that and want to get on the left seat of a CRJ as soon as possible. It is up to you.
Hey, I'm really glad to see you made it, and may I say that your video is probably the most inspiring one on youtube. I graduate from high school next year and then I'm going to ATP. I will probably have my private license when I get there, so that may give me a head start. Great job.
I was very lucky! Completed ATP on the 29th of Feb, got hired with colgan march 7th, so I didn't have to instruct at all. I started ATP with some time that how I had the mins. With the airlines the way they are right now I would definetly get your cfi's. Good luck to everyone!
How did you like Arizona? I'm 12 and live in Arizona and I was thinking about doing the whole ATP thing so do you think that would be good? Oh and I have 1 flight hour in a Cessna 150-152
I started flying when I was about your age, I'm 18 now and I got my private pilot back in January. I have around 80 hours. If you really wanna do ATP, get a degree first, but I don't suggest doing ATP. You seem smart you should get your degree and try to fly jets in the military, that's what I'm thinkin about doing. But that's me, I've always loved haulin ass. Flying is flying you'll have fun doing whatever you choose.
I went to ATP for my multi engine it was hard work but i saw my instructor get a job with mesa airlines. Thanks to the professional ATP instructors out there Great video. check out mine "best A36 video"
Great video man, i just got done with my Private i hope to attend atp before to long. It looks like it would be awesome!! Im in the air force now and planning on using my GI bill on it, any sugestions? Thanks, Max
hopefully we can see some colgan air vids when u start working for em. have fun my old instructor flies for them and has told me nothing but good things about them.
You're too funny Brew. I know ATP was fun, but it wasn't THAT much fun. I'm disappointed our flights weren't in there. Dick.. Instructing is fun for about oh..2 days! I'm pretty sick of watching other people fly and looking at people's pools in the backyard. You will be hearing from me shortly at Colgan. And to mxrider, not everyone with low hours is an idiot like that. 4000 hours isn't everything. Soon you'll be that idiot too and you can see how it feels.
It's a little pricie but if its what you really want call 1800-all-atps those guys will answer most of the basic questions, I can answer more in depth ones for ya. One thing I will say, if you want to get to the airlines quick, ATP is definetly the way, nothing but good comes from there. Let me know if you have anything else, Take care
I wouldn't say nothing but good comes from there Jax I got an 18 year old instructor. with maybe 400 hrs The kid could fly an airplane but could not teach flying. Your instructor is worth his weight in gold. Pick a good one not get asigned one. If you have no aviation expierance like I did when I went. 90 days is to fast to learn everything.
I have an instructor now that has 4000 hrs and when you ask questions the answers a not "I dont know let me go ask someone" Do Your HomeWorks before ATP!
I BEG YOU, DO NOT GO TO ATP FLIGHT SCHOOL. THEY ARE A COMPLETE RIP OFF AND YOU'LL NEVER GET HIRED WITH A MAJOR AIRLINE IF YOU GO THERE. WORKING THERE AS AN INSTRUCTOR SUCKS.

Congrats. Let me know if you make it to DCA or IAD. Chances are we'll meet one day there.
