  • Space and time. There is no answer, just speculation. Everyone has their own speculation of the knowledge they possess to come to the conclusions they have of what life and infinity really is. Even Ethan Hawkens, one person for example, is "so called" a genius but, I disagree with 80% of what "his" speculation on life, science, and religion are.

  • @kattibrea The only purpose of Hawking is the ultimate destruction of religion, through cheap "theories" which are imbecilic for everyone who actually THOUGHT about them, through eloquence and through awe of "powerful mind" in a weak body... Let me tell you my friend, if religion fails SO WILL MORALITY AND DISTINCTION OF GOOD FROM EVIL and that is exactly what powers to be want. "But they were all of them deceived".

  • This programme is about Cantor''s mathematical ideas. In mathematics you CAN have an infinite regression and the term "limit" is a mathematical one. If you are talking about the physical world and regard there as being a point at which matter is no longer divisible then your infinite regression of halves can't apply anyway, although that isn't the reason why your version of Zeno's Paradox isn't paradoxical. I've already explained that. Your "half boundaries" are illusory, just measurements.

  • i dont how math can drive you insane. how math can drive you to kill yourself?

  • @lafemmenaturalle:

    Here is a good example:

You want to travel to a point, exactly 1 mile away...

You KNOW that to get to the 1 mile point, you MUST crossover the half way point, yes ?

then, when youve travelled that half way, you MUST travel through the next half way point, yes ? (this now being 1/4 mile),

Now, keep halving the distance you must travel (cus you MUST cross half way first)

    Question:

Since you can keep halving the distance left, how do you EVER reach the 1 mile point ????

  • @AnnoyingTypoSyndrome It's a bogus question. Obviously, when travelling at a constant speed, the time it takes you to cover each section, (which is half the previous one), is also halved. When the series reaches its limit, it takes no time at all to complete the last stage.

  • @mjeshaw:

so, there is NO such thing as INFINITELY SMALL ?

#There CANT be, if you can pass across the half way point. Of course, fi there were such athing as "infinitely small", then it would become infinitely LARGE, because of the impossibility of endlessly passing the half way points.

The key word, in your summary was "LIMIT".

Smallness, MUST have alimit, otherwise you couldnt get anywhere.

    Now, what about largeness ?

  • Respond to this video... Here's a more interesting question. Can you think of a two dimensional shape which has an infinitely long perimeter but a finite area?

  • There is a VERY fine line between the genius and insanity.

  • bbc is shit whatever they show is wrong

  • JESUS TELL US THE FUCCCCKIIING IDEAAAAS WHAT A WASTE.

  • The "grain of sand" refers to all matter being compressed into one tiny but extremely dense mass prior to the explosion that made it expand forming the universe. The trouble is where did the grain of sand come from?

How can something be infinite if it has no fathomable beginning if not an end? Is this a proof or disproof of god? If God is infinite that it is proof. to assume some is invalid because we can't understand it is dogmatic.

  • I love this doc, but I just notice the Blake quote at the beginning and then the lead into discussing a world without god. Blake was a deeply religios man who would have believed that the very idea of chaos itself is itself a proof of divinity. You can choose to see it either way. I think when they talk about Boltzman and Cantor they also felt that it was a god -given mission they had to "solve" a problem. One of the ideas behind true monotheism is the one god is eternal and infinite and one.

  • Spanish please...

  • Watch Youtube "VEEGA I Wanna Kno"..

    Pretty interesting..

  • You know what is crazy.

Our past has done everything known to mankind, but our present hasn't don't shite, this present is dumb as fuck! - Asmir Habibovic

  • There was a science before modern science. There were greater nations before greece and rome. there is no such thing as dangerous knowledge. Knowledge is for all,but if the source of all knowledge has been perverted, then it will be preceived as dangerour to western society. As a brillant as a mind that he had, it rivals no comparison to the ANCIENT AFRICANS OF THE PRE DYNASTIC EGIPT

JUST LOOK AT THE WALLS OF EGIPT AND SEE THEIR SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY THOUSAND OF YRS BEFORE THE EUROPAN APEARED

  • Hi afro, - Why is it clever commentators like yr good self cannot spell? Of course it's a minor detail, so I'm told, as long as ppl can understand what u are trying to say, they will excuse bad spelling, however u must remember that many folks take yr spelling, good or bad, to be a very telling indicator of general education and intelligence. I suggest u use a spell checker b4 posting comments mate. Correct spelling wins a lot of respect and stops ppl dismissing yr good comments as low IQ.

  • @slessorpr my spelling is terrible and it gets worse the faster I type or the more I feel about something. WHen I write my resumes or send cover letters or wrote papers my spelling is spot on.

Nit picking implies attention to spelling an punctuation rather than the point being made, do we spell when we speak? do we use proper grammar when we speak ?

I have had many an English teacher who are sad little men/women who wanted to be something else, but -BOY WERE THEY GOOD WITH THAT RED MARKER!

  • @impdream70 Glad you didn't take my comment personally, as you make intelligent comments and I'm not 4 a moment meaning to be derogatory, just offering unnecessary advice. I know - I shd pull my head in.TY 4 yr patience mate.

  • @slessorpr no offense taken, I just learned not to under estimate people. I forget his name but there was a scientist who's assistant was a bookbinder with no training but with great ideas -what was his name?

  • @impdream70:

the best way to stop idiots correcting you, just because you can't be bothered to do a spel check is............

(well, it worked for me - i hardly ever get it, now)

  • @afro

    ...and look at them now.

  • great video
