It was 1997, and lots of people were predicting Apple was finished. Jobs came back, and this campaign came out in the first few months. It was a restatement of the spirit that had been around Apple when it produced the Apple II and the Mac. Like it or not, it was a stunningly good ad.

As much as I generally hate on Apple commercials, I largely prefer this style of commercial to the slew of mac vs pc ads they've been flooding the airwaves with over the past couple years.
