Are there any particular recordings/cd's someone could recommend me of Snooks? Just found him the other day and I really like it, so I just wanting some recommendations.
I keep coming back to this one time & time again because it's PERFECT. Snooks was a master of both rhythm & lead guitar, plus about 20 other styles, and his voice was immaculate.
Truth and talent always shine... and the truth is the Guitar Center hang outs who amaze themselves with the two licks they know ... They have neither the soul nor talent to create music they only copy it and add a differnt effect... and most ot the time badly.
The reason you don't hear this stuff on the radio and in the charts is the wantabees that call themselves musians today you know the ones that hang at guitar center and amaze everyone with their two licks is the suits that now run the industry don't know s from shinola when it comes to real talent they only want to sell to tenny boppers who got the money but not the talent or taste to appericate or play this real music
i fell in love with this guy ages ago when i first heard 'them bells are ringing' i would discribe this cat as a funk bluesman and that tele has the fear of god in its headstock...the golden era when music was real...
This brother had a great and wonderful soul.....nobody could play or sing quite like him, and no one ever will. I wish someone would post Woody Mann's tribute song "Sweet Baby Snooks" on Youtube
Snooks was a true genius and one of the most important musicians in the history of New Orleans. Can't believe I'll never be able to see him again. So sad.
what a talent..!...attention white blues guys...look at this guys hands...this is why you will never sound like a black man..,no matter how old your guitar and amp...his fingers are like cigars...and they move like a ballet dancer.....he could play a peavey guitar and amp and smoke any guy around....he was the real deal..
Guys can u imagina being able to listen to this on a daily live? It's a blessing. i can remember sitting on the floor in my mothers living room watching my uncle play.
snooks is one of the greatest I've had the pleasure of meeting , I got to sit and talk with him for about an hour then he gave me a cd his wife helped him autograph it for me ..he plays guitar better blind than most people with perfect sight do
God, this guy is really awesome...thanx Stan from TDPRI!

Porter is throwing down on the bass this whole tune. It's a shame he's so low in the mix. This is a truly spectacular recording . . .

It's Kenneth Blevins, probably best known from The Goners (Sonny Landreth, John Hiatt) and Lil Queenie & the Percolators. He's a tremendous musician.

Got that Robert Ward, Ray Sharpe feel to it. Beautifully soulful..i could listen to this all day. Sadly Robert Ward just died a few weeks ago also.

I've always loved Snooks' playing but to see him do it, it is so surprising! What a strange technique...
But listen to THAT sound, wee runs and such a strong tone from the Telecaster.
Listen to 1:48-1:50 and 2:00 to 2:20
GENIUS!
In fact, this is fantastic: all of it. A great song, soulful vocals and a stinging guitar part.
What a loss to music!
