the fret buzz originated from django keeping his stolen spoon collection in his guitar he would nip off and pop in to a cafe '' no mcdonalds in them days'' and steal anything he could get his fingers on. spoons where easy to pick up as his left hand couldnt manage a a saucer or tupper wear containers . so there you have it
also, what hero's these two are. not to mention what they've done to bring Gypsy jazz back, without them i might not have even been exposed to it in the first place. I tip my hat
these are two masters doing just what they do best. Absolutely incredible!! Even better in person. Bless you Tchav Bless you Fapy; May I see you again at Samois another year.
No - but it is part of the sound to be that good a player - these are the gods from that genre and they are partying - not talking out of their bottoms.
@ArkRed1 the setup for the guitars is actually very high action and stiff. the fret buzz comes from the playing style itself. were talking 3.5mm picks minimum and a VERY heavy handed attack. also, they play rest stops in the picking which doesnt help any. just the way gypsy jazz is.
Sorry... My mistake. The song is 'Je suis seul ce soir'. Also an old French song like J'attendrai. Both songs are many times covered by Gypsy-style musicians.
sorry i just don't think 1 comment does this video enough justice. As other people have said i'm sure, "what i would give... to see this live." I can listen to this for 5 hours and still enjoy every note. By the way can someone tell me where this festival is? and also if there are plans of it coming back in the near future? (I know funds were an issue recently).
The festival started in 2003, (50th anniversary of Djangos death), and was held in Moseley Park in Birmingham UK. We managed to make three years happen before we ran out of money.
Have you set up a webpage for donations? I would be glad to help- I am fairly capable at such things. Please let me know, I'm sure other people here would be willing to donate.
Agreed. I'd rather hear some beautiful improvised lines than just fast playing to show technique. In my opinion, Fapy and Jimmy (Rosenberg) are the most beautiful gypsy guitar players. This particular video is sensational, I can watch it over and over.
Totally fantastic! Do I detect cross-over (intentional or not) between Brazilian chorinho and jazz guitare manouche? I sincerely thank guzziuk for sharing this exceptional moment with us all.
I can't get enough of this.... Two brilliant guitarists, completely different in guitarstyle but so dedicated. This is love! Love for music. Love for Django. Django, not only a unique guitarplayer but also a great composer.

Et voilà le travail... pas besoin de faire les 24 heures du manche... ç'est beau... ça a fait rêver nos grands mères il y a 65 ans et ça s'appelle tout bêtement de la musique .
Fapy plays wonderfully, right from the soul. Sure, other guys are faster, Bireli, Debarre, etc. But they hold nothing over him on the creativity and feeling level. Just a stupendous performance.
Absolutely awesome. I prefer him to Bireli, Bireli just too much technique, too busy for my taste. It's sort of the reason I prefer Teddy Wilson to Art Tatum. Anyway, this is the best video I've found so far. Breathtaking.
