real fast... but Yngwie's is "REAL" faster... cause he's fast not just because of the picking technique... actually he just picks when his left is going faster... haha
@inwardperception It's not drop D n00b. The low A is tuned down to A. DROP A LOL. A McLaughlin trademark. He has never once recorded in drop D tuning, sorry... that's a wankers tuning.
@colacoca355 ...you're wrong. Listen to his My Goal's Beyond recording of Goodbye Pork Pie hat. The rhythm guitar overdub is in drop D. You're a moron for calling any tuning a wanker's tuning...just because lots of metalheads splurge all over their fretboards in drop d doesn't mean people with integrity can't do good shit with it.
@ShonoughIdo I agree; it's funny that someone would attribute drop D to "only metal pricks", since people have been using it long before anyone ever thought of "metal" as a genre. Of course you can play wonderful or awful stuff in just about any tuning you can imagine, and since drop D is only changing one string, most of what you play in standard would translate easily. I love that album, btw; the first of many I bought from him in the early-mid 70s.
The mother of all guitar players is an original from start to finish. He is a genre unto himself, and has created other genres along the way that no one else ever came close to duplicating.
I still see john mclaughlin videos and I still do not see how the hell he does it. if this is not mastery I have no idea what in the hell is. I don't care what a person listens to. If you cannot understand that this is mastery and absolute musical genius, there is absolutely no and i mean NO hope for you.
@theendlessenigma Yeah, I've always loved John's music since I discovered him in 1970 during my drug crazed teens. I've often looked back and thought how (to me) he was the voice of sanity within all the crazy and oft times pretentious areas of music I listened to back then-very drug oriented- he Kept me grounded. Always GOT his music. I believe too many people know neither how to hear or listen. It's their GREAT loss.
@RNWard1954 Without even knowing who I was going to see (at READING ROCK,UK..''75?!maybe)Except for -of course :Soft Machine,King Krimson,Wishbone Ash,Caravan,Camel,...tooo many 2 mention!!!!I GOT TO SEE A GROUP I?D NOT HEARD OF :yeah'right buddy:The MAHAVISHNU ORCHESTRA(Who played most of Visions of the emerald beyond...and Birds of Fire!!!)Not sure if it was all the 'acid' or John :but it sure changed something big in my life!!!!!Creashonrebel
@Mangosunsplash I'll always be grateful for the long lost friend who suggested I'd like John. I bought Devotion and it instantly blew me away, bought Inner Mounting flame, likewise, then Birds of Fire, blown even further away. I thrashed that album to death & never tired of it. The only album which has ever come close is Nomad by Jesse Cook. I know what you mean re something big changing.

Easy, he's got a sandestin from the 4th dimension moving his fingers for him :D
The real trick is how he telepatically tells the sandestin where to put them on the quick...
