@janstand1 I'm well aware of that but i consider it strange that no-one even brought up Prokofiev's name before me. It's like most of people didn't have a clue who composed this piece.
@AlcoholAssault: The reason they're talking about Shakespeare is because the title of the piece is "Montagues & Capulets." The Montagues and Capulets were the two opposing families in Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet."
@DoctorRorshach Why on earth are people talking about Shakespeare here? You must realise that this piece was written hundreds of years after his death. It saddens me that you don't even know the name of the composer of this originally so great music. What a bunch of philistines.
Meanwhile people are listening to terrible music without taking into account the developments of musical pieces such as this, they've built views far above. Why is the view count on this so low? Shouldn't something such as this be more recognized? Well, I'll keep listening to this. I guess in a world full of fool's gold, you have to truly treasure the genuine art. Thank you Epica for helping keep the spirit of music alive. You won't be forgotten.
The ballet version aka the original one is much more powerful and beautiful than those mediocre adaptation to metal styles.... and this is the opinion of one who likes both kinds of music... Prokofiev was such a composer! a genius! and this is simply a masterpiece!
I love the original, Im a fan of clasical meself. Well, Im a fan of Good music in general, although I find most pop to be terrible, especially modern pop.
But I think this is the best version that could've been made, although I wish there was a straight "on the beat" drum line, like ACDC style drum. It would work better I think for the main "riff" as it owuld be called in this song
Heheh. An evil little girl walking down a hallway. She knows she's going to get her way, even if a few people have to die in order for that to happen. She's got a glint of summer fire in her eyes and nails like tiny little daggers covered in oil. Her smile is innocent but her heart is everything but! Watch out- she's right behind you...
for the first time I listened to the Montagues et Capulets at Deep Purple's concert (they use M&C as an intro) and it was simply outstanding intro. But I would like Deep Purple to use this Epica's version as an intro. loved it! great! thanks for uploading
The movie's mostly a lot of sex and violence; it's not like it'll hurt many people... but that doesn't take away from the fact that, like you (and Ebert) said, it is a massive piece of shit.
I think its good. Some people just dont like it when someone adds some balls to a song. I like this song with more kick into it. Both are good but original is just too lame...
I love the original and I love metal, but I don't think this really works. At all. The metal elements ruin the atmosphere of the original, and the brass section does not make a good metal riff.
@Goktata Go fuck your mom, you half-aborted son of a motherless cow and a Turkish truck driver. This song gave me more orgasms than your sister.I'd stick a distortion pedal up your ass and play until your balls whistle Paganini's Caprice you jerk. You got no musical taste other than your mother's stringed crotch.
Keep your opinions down your testicular tumors when referring badly to Epica.
fuck you romanian gypsy. i play electroguitar, too. but i dont fuck classical pieces with stupid distortion, or any other effects. who the fuck are you speaking to me about musical taste? You are the one with no music taste, and you proved it by defending epica or any other idiot metal band against classical music.
@Goktata I play electric bass guitar and Double bass, I don't see your fucking point. You couldn't do such a cover nor such a voice not even if you sold your balls on the market for a better mom.
Classical metal covers are genius, and symphonic metal is one of the hardest genres to play because it requires a lot of musical theory and instruments to back it up (in general),you moron.Go back to your cave, troll !!
PS Unlike you brownie, I'm white. And I listen to a lot of classical music.
yeah i, couldn2t do such a shit like this. i don't even try because of respect to the prokofiev. and for cover, ask it to any classical musician or conductor, they'll give you the answer.
@Goktata Lol. What I find most amusing about your little rant about how superior classical music is, is that I know a lot of people who do music. Most are heavily into classical music, myself included.
Now, out of ALL of the people I know, or know of, who are fans of classical, they generally respect music in all its forms.
So essentially, because of your intolerance to other covers of music, I'd guess you are no older than 12, trying to sound 'hard' by ranting hate online.
I have to agree with you - Symphonic metal is probably one of the most talented and difficult genres to play.
It is far more talented than the untalented 3 - 4 power cord players using drop D so they can play with a single finger bands that we are now accustomed to hearing on the radio. There is no true reason to even mention music theory on you tube, half will not know what it is or how works, and the other half will not have the intellect to Google it.
@dreamzwalker I may have misunderstood your statement on Drop D, but if I understood it correctly, I have to disagree.
Drop D can lead to simpler playing, sure. But it can also be used for much more complex pieces. After all, it's simply just another tuning.
As an extra point, some of the best music going is simple. Not everyone likes to listen to technical music all the time, some not at all. Sometimes it's good to just chill out to the simpler things in life :).
If you knew anything about classical music and current music in the shape and form you attempt to speak of, you'd realize where many metal cord progressions derived from. If you do not like, do not listen to it. There's no reason to insult people who do not share your view. This is a combination of styles and genres. For a self proclaimed musician, you have a very closed mind. You should think a little harder before spewing random hate and being an immature little troll.
@03crichardson I was being sarcastic. But actually, this IS Dance of the Knights. I think. Whenever I listen to a video of Montagues and Capulets there's a intro that's not in videos of Dance of the Knights. So.
