  • Why is it any time I watch a training video all I see is

"He's stupid Caesar is so better"

    And then people respond

"No Caesar is stupid this guy is awesome!"

And it goes back and forth, all I see is people yelling at each other. And it's almost always about Caesar.

  • what a lame video....I sure hope this guy doesnt call himself a professional trainer...i hate seeng trainers feeding treats nonstop like that. All we need here is to top the number of obese dogs lol And what if you forget treats? The dog will be out of control once it realizes you have no food i am sorry, but this guy is a joke to me...

  • ok, so i watched this video hoping to learn or see another method of training that would help me develop my own. However i did not see very many things that he really did well. Dr Ian even rewarded Dune when he didn't obey the "stay" command. Also is there any information on how old the dog is or how long they have been training together? With out this info it feels wrong to judge the responses of the dog and human.

  • Ian is training the dog with food. Cesar takes care of dogs who could be put down. It's completely different. In this video, Cesar would have no reason to correct anything. The dog is fine.

  • @ghune EXACTLY!!! I wish people would understand this!!!

  • I'm wondering if Dune creeped forward because Ian used his name first. Many dogs on hearing their name anticipate a recall.

I'm a trainer and I'm always being picked up on teaching name before command for distance control.

But I'd rather get the dogs attention first by using their name, than repeat the command.

  • Ian dunbar is very good at what he does theoretically however imo in practice he does make some novice mistakes such as repeating commands i know someone argued that this didn't matter, but it does.We can learn a lot from dunbar however you have to know what information is good and what isn't. Cesar is the same he has some very good methods and some not so good. I still believe the pack theory is correct regardless of what Dunbar says. It doesn't mean we cant train other ways though like clicker

  • I wonder what Chief Sitting Bull would have thought of Cesar and Ian

  • @Velasca what do you think he will say?

Do you know he has two graves? One in N.D., and the other in S.D. I couldn't believe it!

  • It` s taken me months of patience ,but with kindness and repetition ,my pup can distance sit, stand and down in any order. He is a keeshond, and a crazy one at that! I can take lessons from Caesar or Ian,they both have good ideas to give.I prefer not to be mean in any way, dogs don`t forget........

  • @dawggonecrazee hey I have a question. I've heard that you should not scold dogs if they pee in the house when you are not there. I've heard that unless you are right there, in the act, you can't correct them because they forget. Do you know if this is true?

  • @cnyc31 I think thats right.Cesar says dogs live `in the moment` so they wouldn`t know why you are angry if they peed an hour earlier in the house. .Some dogs don`t ``ask`` to go out,so I have a pretty strict regime of going out into the garden at frequent intervals for all my dogs to relieve themselves.I have command words `hurry up` until they have all performed and they come in for a treat. It seems to work.It never worked with my cat though, lol,:)

Saying 'stay stay stay' is ok as you are not asking for an action, you are saying you don't want one! To to reinforce the stay on a jumpy dog, it is fine.

Saying 'sit sit sit' or 'down down down' isnot great practice though.

  • For those of you so taken with Cesar Millan, I have one observation to make: it isn't a live show. It's theater. Outtakes show up on YouTube from time to time before they are quickly removed. On one outtake, I saw Millan "train" a toy dog by stringing it up (lifting it off the ground by a choke collar and strangling it in the air.) This technique wasn't "whispered;" in some countries it is banned as abuse.

  • Cont:

Morons get dogs, don't exercise it, don't put in the time to train it than complain that the dog is not behaving!! There would be no need for Cesar or his show if everyone did what Dunbar advocates which is training from early on. Dogs aren't born bad, they become bad due to neglect from their moron owners!

Don't fuckin watch a tv show and come here and say the number one dog behaviorist in the world doesn't know what he's doing. Die you idiots!

  • You fucks are fucking fanatics! Cesar's ideas of intimidation and domination physically and psychologically are outdated!!! You can achieve the same results without them!!! I'm not saying everything he does is wrong. Most of you say that he and Dunbar actually agree on things like exercising and that's true, except it would take morons of the caliber like some of you here not to know that and learn it from Cesar!!! And if you notice that is the number one problem Cesar deals with!

  • His voice is to annoying to listen too.

  • Damn and then in this video the dog is half the time not even paying attention to the Dunbar. As a trainer that dog should be focused on him way more than that.

I'm not really impressed by him at all!

Everything he says I already knew from just watching Cesar Millan.

  • Ever hear of Dr. Patricia McConnell? yeah so don't tell me how I learned everything. I've read plenty of books. A lot of what Cesar does is similar to dunbar's philosophy in Exercise and creating boundaries. The big difference is Cesar doesn't NEED to use food. He's more about energy. Oh just so you know, Cesar has wrote plenty of books, and just so you don't come back with, "Well he's not a real behaviorist" he WROTE THEM WITH OTHER VETERINARIANS AND TRAINERS TOO!

  • I've read plenty of books BEFORE Cesar came along. Dunbar just isn't good hands on. Cesar is way better hands on than Dunbar.

  • That's what's wrong with you Cesar critics. I've watched 5 episodes in a row where HE NEVER EVEN TOUCHED THE DOG! Watch him with dogs that are very shy, nervous, anxious etc...he doesn't use force on them.

You all think he is just robotic and automatically is physical with the dogs, which he's not. Just cuz he says Pshhhh or give a physical touch on the neck isn't mean and everyone is so overreactive with that.

  • @da0217 who says there outdated vets scientists im sure they out there helping dogs lol you stupid motherfucker go kill yourself

  • That's because Ian Dunbar doesn't need to put his hands on the dog for the dog to listen. =)

  • @ChillyAndClover ya right hes never been with half of the bad dogs that cesar has face it ian can train a little puppy but cesar can help the worst cases

  • @JohnnyRu131

Travis Parker is way better drummer than Cesar.

  • Comment removed

  • the only thing i dont agee with his methods is when he goes to correct the dog he says "stay, stay, stay" . you are teaching the dog to respond on the 3 word command. especialy in the smarter breeds.

  • this guy sucks cesar would smash this fool

  • Cesar is not a dog trainer, he's a human trainer. Secondly, both Ian and Cesar are not concerned about ego battles, they are both concerned with the health and safety of dogs and the education of people. If you don't understand that, then you are wasting your own time watching these fellows.

  • I have been to MANY of his events over the past 20+ years and he is insightful and respectful of dogs. He has been responsible for changing so many attitudes to dog training that I guess newcomers to it probably take what he brought to it for granted. No one much trained with food rewards before he came along and made it OK. Here in the UK anyway.

  • "GraceUnderPressure1" so right! half of the things he does in his videos are wrong! I can prove to you step by step what he does wrong, If you know about body language and how dogs communicate with each other, you'll know that non of the voice commands he gives dog matters! I would never let him near my dog eather!

  • Ian Dunbar has forgotten more about dog behavior and training than you and graceunderpressure and 20 of your friends along with cesar milan will ever know. You have provided clear evidence of your ignorance. Thanks.

  • ya have ian train a dog who wants nothing to do with humans or food good luck with that one fuckhead

  • And if you know anything about successful dog training, you'll find it's mostly to do with consistency and not methods. Same with raising children. My dogs have no problems with verbal commands, even when they cannot see me. They learn sound symbols through consistent operational conditioning, just like you did as a baby.

  • Dog communication? There is no dog communication going on. It's HUMAN and DOG communication. Humans cannot communicate with dogs like dogs do BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT DOGS!

  • First time I've seen this guy "training" a dog, a few things shocked me from hearing how "brilliant" this guy is, honestly, I wouldn't let him near my dog.

  • don't conclude what he can do for the dog, and the owner, from a video post of just a few minutes. training isn't instant. it takes time working with a dog individually to build good behavior. what he is doing is teaching specific observation skills and the specific action that follows.

let go of your judgement and focus on the specific skill he is trying to teach. you can learn a lot on how to control your dog.

  • why? Look at the dog's expression and tail. OK, there might be smarter ways of getting those change of positions withut the dog coming forward, but the dog is OK with it. Or are you assuming the dog looking away is significant? (Looking away isn't always a calming signal you know...)

  • You're retarded.

  • You're an idiot

  • Does Dr. Ian Dunbar have his own channel on YouTube yet? I can not find him. I thought I might get lucky with this channel, but obviously Dr. Dunbar is not 25 years old!

  • I think DogStarDaily is his YouTube channel

  • Ah. Thank you, peachy! That's funny because I actually favorited a video recently from that channel but didn't notice it was Dr. Dunbar's. I appreciate that.

  • great..
