  • I like the idea of a more docile collective pitch for an easy progression but your developer stated that most of this is due to the programming in the radio (which is why it's in available on RTF only). If that is true, wouldn't it be a better value for fixed pitch pilots to buy the 400 or 450 and program their ds6i (or other computer radio) to be more docile? That way as the pilot skills progress, they can really crank up the setting for 3G flight.

  • is it a good step up from the MCX2?

  • can i fly upside down the micro heli out of the box ?????

  • @khalid67596 No, as a fixed-pitched heli it will not fly inverted.

  • Hi. I have 4 helicopters now all which are from blade i have the blade mcx, msr, 120 sr and the blade 400. The blade sr has always been a helicopter i would like but never bought because it only comes in rtf. I have a dx6i from my blade 400 so i would be able to bind it to the sr. I know one person cant change a company but im getting my opinion out there as i know many more people would like more bnf versions. Thanks

  • hi is the sr easier to fly in RTF form as i have a dx6i and would rather buy BNF thanks.i am moving up from the 120 sr.

  • Is this a 3D helicopter? (aerobatic)

  • @sheyla2003 yes

  • @mehe456 for 3D flight and more advanced flight would it be better for me to purchase and bind this to my DX7 or to purchase and bind a CP Pro 2?

  • My chant is - Do Not Buy - Until Bind N Fly

  • I have heard some talk about the company coming out with a fix pitch version. Does anyone know if that's true or not?

  • I want to buy another so I can mod it for the Huey Fuze, but I don't want another Tx. I alreay have 2 (LP5DSM, HP6DSM[SR]) and am about to buy a DX6i. Don't want 4 Tx's with only 1 that is used.

  • I like this heli a lot, but a brushless tail motor would have been nice, or even a belt driven version ;-)

Sure hope you work out the DX6i and DX7 setup sheets for many potential customers out there because many ask for it. Thanks for the interesting review Jim and Marc.

  • i cant decide if like heli/planes or cars/trucks better and im good on all of them but i haven't own all of them can u help me

  • is it possible you could tell me the transmitter setup so I can bind it to my DX7 and still have the ease of flight? thanks

  • @theeverythinggeek828 I'm sorry but we don't have setups for other radios at this time.

  • @HorizonRCdotCom is this heli good for guys who are ready to step up from co axal? cause thats what it said online

  • @HorizonRCdotCom

It's obvious Horizon realizes beginning heli pilots who already own other BNF transmitters, could simply buy the BNF version, giving the ability to get the beginners setup wrong, which would make the SR harder to fly. Then reports would come crashing in about how it's mis-advertised etc. As carlocivicsi says below, use Horizon's instructional video on toning down the BLADE 400. Tell me I'm wrong Horizon.. (btw, they won't vouch for this due to the above reasons ;-)

  • @HorizonRCdotCom do you have TX setup for DX7se at this time

  • @rain24187 I'm sorry but no.

  • Which one should i get first? An R/C helicopter or an R/C plane.

  • @TheFlight17 Its all a matter of personal preference and what interests you more.

  • I will only get it if it comes in BnF, I bought your Dx6i, what more do you want?

  • i was wondering i have the blade cx2 and mcx and i have mastered both of them

i am looking for a more interesting heli

i want to learn to do 3D tricks etc

what heli would you recommend ??

  • @blacklight671 Sounds like the SR will be the perfect heli for you then!

  • @HorizonRCdotCom but i dont want to get the SR as it only comes in RTF

why does it not come in BNF??

  • @blacklight671 As Mark mentions in the video part of the progressive learning curve with the SR is due to the programming in the transmitter itself. It's part of the package that makes it so user friendly for those making the transition.

  • nice one, now i will stick to this for now.. well explained.. thanks mark. Jim asked all the questions that i have in mind.

    thanks.

  • Sell a BNF version and I'll buy it. I don't need anymore transmitters.

  • Sell this as a BNF and I'll buy it. The last thing I need is another transmitter. Ship instructions with it so others like my self can set it up on out existing equipment and you'll get my support.

  • cool video jim ...i got the feeling mark was desperate to get away for lunch!! good job...will get me an sr soon!

  • I HAVE THIS HELIIII!!!! juhuuu the fly fantasticcc

  • man, i wish i would have known this was coming out. I got a blade MSR 2 months ago. Well i still like it, but i was thinking of something a little large and this would have been that step.

  • Looks nice, however I wish there was a BNF version - I already have 5 cheap controllers that I don't use. Had this come as a BNF I would've ordered one at once (as I did the mSR), since it seems like a pretty natural step up from initial outdoor noob flying with something like the coaxial ESky Big Lama.

  • so is that a tuned down cp pro 2 or what? i think i'd rather spend the extra 30 bucks and get the CP PRO 2. it seems like one might get bored with it if its too sluggish.

  • I get the theory to only selling it RTF because of the radio setup, but why not offer it BNF with a setup sheet for the DX6i and DX7i radios? I'd really like to add this helicopter to my collection, but now that I've eliminated a stack of radios and converted everything to my DX6i, I don't want to have to have another radio around. I'm an expert heli pilot, but I'd like to have this for front yard flying with the same radio settings on my DX6i.

  • I got the CP+ last year and crash landed it so many times, after attempting to hover, it broke one of the WEAK landing skid struts. I wished I would have waited...but.....when I do master my CP+.....that is all she wrote for me and the sky is the limit!

  • Well and this is exactly why we recommend people to start slowly and gradually progress. the CP+ is way too much heli for someone who doesn't have much heli experience. That's where the mCX and the CX heli's come in as they really teach you the fundamentals. From there you can progress to something like the mSR or the SR. Some people complain about buying more than one heli but you're often cheaper to do that than buy one more expensive heli and replace hundreds of dollars in parts.

  • That is just it......I have two Blade CX2's, a mCX and a mSR....and have mastered them all.......that is what promted me to buy the CP+ in the first place......but it was way to much for me. But I will give my CP another go.

  • Well that's part of the reason the SR has been produced. The gap from the Coxial heli's and even the mSR to a CP was just too great in terms of skill needed to fly it.

  • guarentee bnf version comes out...ill put money on it

  • @hoffbran

Uh, the designer said specifically that this model was intended for the "novice" helicopter pilots both in regards to hardware and software design for heli and transmitter to be more forgiving and easier for the early heli pilots.

So no, a BNF is not coming out and i'll bet you $100 via paypal on it.

  • you guys are going to either be jealous or hate me since i got it today

  • @wrestlemaniac202

My LHS just got them yesterday and after seeing one first had I cancelled by Baja 5T order and got one instead.

  • I was just about to buy a CP Pro 2 -PNP + battery and bind it to my Dx6i. This was about $220 or so. Then the SR was anounced RTF for $199.99 and I couldn't wait to get it. I pre-ordered it the very next day.

This is exactly the heli that I need to fly next for my skill level.

    Thanks E-flite!!

  • can it fly 3d ?

  • OK a few quick questions:

Can it do easy aerobatics like loops and rolls with the transmitter that is included?

I ask because i have yet to see a video where it actually does something, like that.

Can it do more advanced 3D maneuvers?

Why does it cost 200 USD in the US and 200 Euros over here in germany, when 200 USD would be more like 150 Euros really. I bought a lot of stuff from HH in the past but that feels like a rip-off and makes me a little angry tbh.

  • @schubimz it looks like, at least in theory, it should be able to pull off some 3d stuff

  • Good info.

Using the delivered HP6DSM, how easily can the heli moved into a more advance mode? Let's say I get it, fly it for several months and am ready for the next step. Is a DX6i or above required or are there other changes that can me made with the delivered heli and TX?

  • So this heli comes already trimmed out

  • Yes, like the CX and mCX series of helis they are flown at the factory before they get boxed up and shipped out.

  • Finally a heli trully designed for pilots between beginner and advanced skills level!!! I have purchased almost the hole line of horizon helis. I always wonder why horizon didn't designed scale bodies for their line of collective pitch helis like the blade 400, etc.

The SR would make a good scale micro heli and I certainly will buy it if scale bodies will be available for the SR. Good job Designers!!

  • There are advanced pilots that already own your DX7 TX and want a smaller "mini" sized heli too. Offering this as a BNF would make sense. If not then at least offer a blade CP Pro 2 BNF!!

  • will we be able to bind the TX of the SR to the msr and use it?

  • While technically yes, it will bind to an mSR from what we've learned you don't want to do this with the mixes and programming in the transmitter. I have asked Mark about this in the past and can't recall the exact reason but it's not something you'd want to do.

  • Stalyoni, The TX settings are not compatible with the mSR. mSR uses no servo reversing, no mixes, SR uses CCPM mix, servo reversing, and more. It is DSM2 so yes it will bind but it won't fly the mSR. /Jim

  • isnt there switches underneath the battery compartment to turn the CCPM mixing off so it becomes a standard 4ch TX? I have a esky 6ch TX and can do exactly that. Also when do you except this blade SR heli to reach here in Australia?

    Thanks Brendon

  • Yeah, whats with all the hate, its simple, dont like it, dont buy it! Or get over yourselves, and just ditch the TX, and do your own thing with your own transmitter.

As they said, it is a purpose built heli, for beginner CP heli flyers like I would be.

If you are moaning about it only being a RTF, clearly you are past the need for this helicopter, and should be concentrating on something more advance.

As for me, I will be getting myself one as soon as everyone is stocking them and parts

  • @msteer79 yes thank you people out there who want a BNF read his comment !

  • Why do other people get mad because some people want a BNF. No big deal. I BNF a curse word.

  • It wasn't that. There were comments deleted that were way over the line in terms of personal attacks and racial slurs. I have no problem with folks asking for a BNF version. Those comments do get passed onto the E-flite team too. The language, theme and tone of the comments were crossing the line into personal attacks on people and that was what was unacceptable.

  • @HorizonRCdotCom by the way i sent you guys a message, you haven't replied yet

  • It's the weekend. I try to take at least a few hours off a week ;)

  • looks like a mini blade 400

  • im sorry, its just making me mad how everyone is complaining about a BNF

  • Everyone I am going to post this once & once only. These postings here on the videos need to be G-Rated. Further swearing or other derogatory personal remarks towards other commenter's or other individuals will result in the comment being removed and you being blocked. I don't want to do this but please remember this is not a forum & we have a lot of kids that watch these videos and read the comments. If you can't read your post out loud to an 8yr old please reconsider the wording of the post.

  • We don't mind people being passionate about RC, our products and the hobby but please be respectful to each other. Thanks.

  • Good comment Horizon. I keep cursing out of my videos and off my TouTube sight. Most people weren't trashing Horizon that I could see. They just don't want more radios. I have a DX6i and DX7. Both are wonderful radios. I have even swapped out the receivers in 2 of my other planes so I could use these nice radios. You push these radios and the bind in flies in all the RC magazines. Please hold up your end of the bargain and support these radios with bind and flies

  • Exactly. I know there are some that think I was talking about the calls for a BNF. I wasn't. It was strictly language and slurs that pushed it to all posts will require approval before going live. Things have really calmed down in regards to that so I may remove the approval process if things stay as they are now. I also just want to reinforce that the radio is a key to the performance for the less experienced pilot that frankly would be over their head trying to program a computerized radio.

  • Imagine a BNF version of this baby, that's something I'd wanna buy!

  • all this hate. I've had nothing but good luck with HH and Eflite produts. Here is a RTF, CP (collective Pitch) Heli with a brushless main motor, new molded frame design, lipo battery, charger and transmitter from eflite for $199.99. I'm guesing that if they would have priced this heli at $250 and offered a BnF version at $200 nobody would be bitchin. Throw the transmitter in the garbage if it makes you feel better. It's a great package at an affordable price.

  • The sad part is, that I'm sure they already have plans for a BNF or Blade SR Pro BNF, but they don't want us to know about it so they can sell these first. Remember Horizon, Pigs get fat and Hogs get slaughtered. Don't be greedy.....

  • Let me start by saying, I'm a fan of HH products and support. However, I like many of you went out and bought a Dx6i anticipating BNF as the wave of the future. This would be a great addition to my hanger as I am looking for a heli this size, but I will not purchase one until they come out with a BNF.

  • No BNF=No purchase.

  • nice but will not buy as i have 3 of these tx's, launch a b.n.f for your old customers

  • I understand what you are saying about the BnF issue, yet you are pushing the whole one radio with all your models programmed into it and no need to have to buy another radio you will never use again.

Why not just include the settings you use in the manual for the BnF.

    .....

  • @liambowers666

    .....

You are loosing one customer here as i am not really into helicopters and was looking at this for a good step up after the mSR, but after getting a DX6i and DX7 because of the whole model memory and BnF system then you coming out with this, it's just putting me off. You are completely contradicting yourself here!

  • No BNF no purchase!

  • Add me to the list of disatisfied HH customers that wanted a BNF version.

I have been progressing from Cx to mSR and they come in BNF there is no reason for the SR not to be available in BNF. Just include a page in the manual with the programming parameters for the DX6i. That simple.

  • I don't like to be forced to buy another radio. This product will never be mine...

  • all they have to do for a BNF is give us the programing of the RADIO so we can just input it to our radios like DX6I JR ETC ETC. just like the video that JIM and MARK did on toning down the BLADE 400, they explained step by step how to reprogram the DX6i.

  • Correct. Much of the inherit stability and ease-of-flight characteristics is due to the programming and software that is used in the HP6DSM transmitter. There are others that have said that this radio has been used in other heli's previously which is incorrect. While the "chassis" of the radio may be similar to other offerings this radio was custom developed for use in the SR, hence the lack of a BNF option. The firmware in the radio is a big part of the larger picture when it comes to the SR.

  • @HorizonRCdotCom The HP6DSM transmitter came with my Blade CP PRO 2. This is correct.

  • Hardware wise, correct, it is the programming and software that is different.

  • Please tell me what firmware options was or could be added that a a computer tx couldnt do?

    IMO

Really i believe it comes down to a higher resale value for Horizon Hobby if you include a tx...

  • The DX6i/7 allow all parameters of control of a CCPM helicopter to be adjusted, that includes expo and control travel. This seem to be what Horizon did in the stock transmitter, ad lots of expo and limit servo/rudder/throttle movement.

  • Yep..but my whole question was what possible firmware could they have added that you would be unable to do with a computer tx such as a dx6/7 or x9305?

I do not think there is any special firmware just they do not feel like at this time giving out the settings for it to use on your own bnf tx due to them wanting to sale more stock tx's.

  • I just got into rc heli's recently with the mSR (BnF), and bought immediatly a DX6i to be future proof. So now stepping up to a (BnF) SR would be the way to go for me (and many others I guess). Strange strategy to sell the mSR BnF and tthen he "follow-up" SR not!?

  • Hey JIm,

While I'm going crazy waiting for my BladeSR to show up, I'm sure the wait will be worth it!

Give my thanks to Mark and everyone over at E-flite for all their hard work. I can hardly wait to fly it! XD

  • well iv got the cash ready.just need the helli.

  • You can pre-order it now via the Horizon Hobby website. The link is in the "More Information" section of the video.

  • NEED BNF

  • pardon my French, the CP series frame sucked. I love the look and durability of the SR's frame, I hope to see more molded frames on all newer helis from eflite.

  • Great news , I am needing this heli now .

It may be a great next step up in the Blade lineup .

The MCX , CX2 , MSR have been great for me .

  • can this heli autorotate?

  • I really regret buying my mSR a month ago.... only because I really wish I had known this was coming out. it looks like a great little heli you guys are gunna get more cash out of me....

  • NEED BNF

  • But I will probably get one anyways. I really don't need the beginner stuff, i just like the solid frame and skids. Also brush-less is nice.

You don't have to make us buy the stepping stones, hell mcx comes in bnf. Some people just want a more durable brushless heli that already have a nice TX.

  • YES NEED BNF. No other stuff. Helli only has brushless main motor. Tail motor is still brushed. Won't last long.

  • I'm not concerned about the tail rotor. When it goes out I will replace it, with brushless. He said it has it's own brushed speed controller so all you would need is a brush less speed controller to take it's place.

  • @forrest225 You re right. This looks like a very nice and stable Helli. Horizon hobby has always had the most reliable products. I had stated that this radio is non programmable and somewhat a toy. Some people got mad. Maybe they work for HH. This Helli looks superior to the BladeCP Pro2. My basement is full of great HH products. The Super Cub , best plane ever built.

  • Kudos to Horizon for listening to the consumer and putting this video out which addresses nearly all the major negative comments folks have been posting on the forums. I feel badly for Horizon having to endure all the ignorant people with too much time to speculate on the internet forums

  • If they do a Bind-n-Fly, all they have to do is include the programming in the manual so that the settings can be the same as the ones in the RTF transmitter.

  • longer flight times? i used to have a cheaper version of this and i'd fly it until i broke something so battery life had nothing to do with flight time haha

  • What I really like about the SR are the landing skids. I love my CP Pro 2 but the skids are horrid. They break all the time.

  • Nice Helli but sorry that transmitter is a toy. I have the Blade MCX,MSR,CP PRO 2 and the Blade 400. The HP6DSM transmitter is not programmable. Its the worst thing E-flite has produced. The Blade 400 flies better than the CP PRO 2 because you can program it. Jim was right you have 3 fly bar weights on each side. I really like Horizon Rc products but E-flight is falling way behind in the rc helicopter world.

  • @jauchiu Compared to who? The stock radio is a cost effective choice for entry level hobby goers. If you want a better radio, use your DX6i.

Also, I'm sure HH will be offering a BNF for the SR in the near future.

  • @DarthTedd Exactly use my DX6i or DX7 But why do I have to buy another junk transmitter and charger to get this Heli. Exceed RC and WALKERA are way ahead of E-flight on price, quality and performance. Just hope Horizon will hook up with them for support.

  • @jauchiu Have you ever owned a Walkera product? I have & it was junk. Plus, my LHS has very few parts available (if any).

Besides, if HH is so bad, why do you own 2 of their DX radios?

  • Yes They are great. So are the esky Helli's. And so are the E-flight Helli's. Apparently your not able to read my comments. Buy the way I watched the vid if you trying to hover the CPPRO2. You broke it. Yes you better stick to a Helli that you can buy parts for down the street. Ever considered a Air Hog?

  • true

  • @parkzonecorsairtips Thank you. Just trying to make the point , how many of the same radios and chargers do you need. Just like all the little battery chargers that come with the MCX,MSR,MINI 51D,Sukhoi,and all the little 3.7. Their not free . But we pay for them every time we buy one of these models. I do like Horizon Hobby , They do have quality products.
