@oldpossum I made my tenor operatic debut on that stage in 1986 and remember the house with great fondness. At the time Uwe Scholz was ballet director, and I can still remember his choreography of Mendelssohn's Octet in E-Flat Major and Stravinsky's Firebird, especially the pas de deux with two men, absolutely incredible! Hope you enjoyed the evening.
@philipvanlidth thanks, it was another stunning evening at the Zurich Opera House! Spoerli made a great ballet performance out of Schubert's most famous music.
Perhaps back in the late 80s, you have also gotten acquainted with Dr. Reichenbach, founder of the International Opera Studio.
@oldpossum I'm afraid not. At the time Marc Belfort was running that show with Thomas Blum as Music Director. Uli Peters did a lot of the drama work at the time. Dr. Reichenbach didn't show up at all during my one year tenure...
Beautiful. Give it distorted guitars and drums and you have some of the best extreme metal around. Most of the extreme metal artists are influenced by this genre of music.
stone cold fact. I'm working on parts on guitar now actually. I don't know about Extreme metal though. keep the growlers out of it. It'd be more like nevermore.
the best of Schubert's 14 quartet's played by one of the best ensemble, the ABQ. despite its pesimistic tone it's certainly a page of unsurpassable beauty
i'm pretty sure that if any other quartet sat this way, they would fall apart from lack of communication. the Alban Berg Quartet can totally pull it off! very impressive
this camera work seems to be very goo, but i bet he hate cellist. i want to see what"s cellist's doing(since i'm going to play this as a cellist), but it doesn't show anything! OMG!! Any way they are so good! Fantastic!! Schubert must be happy.
As a newbie in classical music, I must say that this group enlightened my taste in music. I never was quite picky on the groups I listened to, but now I have a bar to raise; and that bar is the Alban Berg quartet. It's too bad about their disbanding, though. D:
It is a shame to know that the Alban Berg Quartet is disbanding after a final concert in Buenos Ares during July of 2008. After the years of glorious, human music-making, they must go their separate ways. Another great loss in a modern age ... but the music shall live on.
Thanks to groups such as this, it is truly immortal. One can only thank them!
This quartet displays superb ensemble, homogeneity of tone and articulation. Their interpretation of this Schubert work is appropriately dark and intense, yet also displays a Viennese flair and elegance in the lighter passages.
@mirasuu anything is worth a try!

Must listen to the Emerson play this though!!! Alban Berg is top notch but second to the Emerson String Quartet! Must listen!
Dragonhaxz 9 months ago
@Dragonhaxz The "Emerson" plays it also fine, but a little bit too "sweet". I am a great fan of the Emerson Quartet.
But the ABQ - recording of Schubert is the reference!

Have any of your heard the Emerson string quartet play this?
