  • wow, cewl! not much juggling in this juggling act though... but the spinning thing was impressive. great job, as always.

  • Eric, your accent sounds great when you speak Japanese. I have a friend that lived in Japan for several years, and he never fully learned the language, he said it was a VERY difficult language to learn. Is it true that they have like 3 different alphabets? You rock man! cool vid!

  • Yeah, he's right it is a very difficult language to learn. And yes there are 3 alphabets (the hirgana, the katakana, and of course the Chinese-derived Kanji). There's about 40-some-odd number of hiragana and 40-some-odd number of katakana; each with their own pronouncia. And thousands of Kanji; and just about every Kanji has more than one pronounciation. I know of one particular Kanji character that has up to twelve different pronounciations based on how its used in different Kanji combonations.

  • that rules that you can juggle on a surf board...

pro juggler, for some reason i thought you were an English teacher.

  • Eric! you are so awesome!! I look up to you in so many ways. Your Japanese sounds so good:) great job eric!!!!

  • kool, so are you really involved in the community there? are you well known?

  • やっぱり先生はすごいですね!!

    I respect you.(^^)b

  • haha the end is quite funny

  • Your Japanese was pretty good, buddy. I don't believe your "naturally shy character", but you were charming in the show! The translation was good too. The narrator was a bit rushing, but you both had a good rapport.

  • Cool!I didn't know that the Tanabata in Hiratsuka is big festival like in Sendai.

  • Awesome !

  • ギネスBookに載ってるはすごいよね!!!

  • Only have one record... Archery for Mountain goat... Kewl Beans Compadre....

  • Hiratuka Tanabata is a very famous festival and 58th long history. It was nice you work for that.

  • Thanks Sugar!

  • You handle yourself well in front of a camera! I am deeply envious and full of respect at the same time.

  • Lol, look at this guy. Just like coach used to say in high school "when you get to the end zone don't look like a dumbass and start dancing! Just look cool and act like you've been there a 1000 times before".

Cool that you got to be on TV man. You fucking rule! Oh yeah, vacation started, so now I can come down to Shonan pretty much anytime :D

  • Thanks Sam! Yeah, I've finally got over the nervousness and can ditch my naturally shy character most of the time now.

Like the football story! Come on out my way to the beach! I need your help shooting a video!

  • Nice job, Eric. I'd be nervous speaking Japanese on TV for fear of not understanding what they are asking!

  • NichiBei, We were working off of a loose script and I knew pretty much what they were going to ask of me so I was comfortable going in.

I still missed that one question though! What did she ask?

  • It was kinda she cut into your conversation and spoke a little too fast.

    What she said is :

    まだこの記録は更新され続けているって事なんですか?

( Mada kono kiroku ha koushin sare tsuzuke te iru tte koto nan desu ka? )

    So it goes like this:

*Does this Guinness record still keep updating by you ?

*Are you still trying to make a new record of this ?

Anyway your answer '' Hai '' has been accepted as proper. Don't worry !

  • Thanks Runny for the Explanation! Nice video response too! Ericsurf6 took me out for my 20th birthday today in Kabuki-cho, Shinjuku. As Ken Tanaka says, Ericsurf6 is a very nice man.

  • Nice video!

  • Very cool!

  • Heh, cute.

  • That was great! I love to hear you speak Japanese. Of course I have no idea how well you pronounce it, but they seemed to understand everything you said, so I'm impressed! ;-)

  • Haha, cool! So this was broadcast on TV? Got some serious skills going on there, dude! Very nice.

    Peace

  • Hey Hiko, Yeah this was broadcast on my local cable station, Shonan Cable.

Say, when are you coming out for a surf? I was out Scuba diving today down in Izu!

  • Dude, I get back in August and am totally up for a quick surf or even some kind of surftrip later that month. By the way, a surfer who can resist the urge to get in the waves, and scuba! I'm impressed! Ahhh, Izu is fantastic isn't it.

    Peace

  • great vid! fun stuff!

  • Funny when ypu say 「年老いばっかり・・・」( Toshi-oi bakkari... )^^

My customers are 年配( nen pai ) as well.

  • Thanks for the comment and video response Runny! I'll stop by your shop this week sometime.

  • 「年老いばっかり・・・」としおり

  • That was a fun time!

  • Festivals are all about fun in Japan.

  • Cool beans! The guy was kinda rude though.

  • Yeah, I thought the guy came on a bit strong too, but they had a really busy day of live interviews so I felt a bit sorry for them.

  • Hello maneneko san! What he said to Eric in the end, that was called Japanese ''Tsukkomi''. He really didn't mean anything like GO HOME. It's supposed to be funny part but it just didn't look like, did it? I understand what you are saying though. Sometimes we have to be careful of doing those kinds of JP attitude to foreigner.

  • I have no idea what she asked, but I answered "YES". That was funny :D

  • i cant undestand a thing you said

  • there are subtitles

  • it was a joke

i was one of erics first sub...lol

    good job!

  • lol so was i (on a different account)

but yea, i liked the video

it was very entertaining and your japanese is good

  • Congrats on the ptrshp! And what a great interview! That was so cute that you set her up to spin. WHat kind of festival is that?

  • nice

  • :o)

  • You became a partner! Congrats!

  • Thanks!

  • Ok Surfs up :)

    Cool, well done

  • Actually, the surf is flat. I am going Scuba Diving today!
