People. Honda del Sol are scarce. Few of them were imported. Less than 75,000 on five years of introduction on USA. Also authomatic are more scarce than standard. Original ones are more expensive than modified ones. Happy to have one.
Why did Honda discontinue the Del Sol & Prelude? They were such nice cars & fun to drive. 160 h/p from a 1.6L engine was a great achievment. Some 4 cly. engines made by other automakers 10-15 years after this engine was made were just hitting that h/p mark!
Lucky me del sol were i live all have b16a engines all of them my sis used 2have one a candy purple with full leather white interior the body was kept clean and stock
@tokyorose999 They are without a doubt fantastic cars. So reliable, quick and the noise of that vtec is just amazing. I Have owned my sir del sol for quite some time. i have 100k miles on the clock now and it has never skipped a beat and still goes like shit off a shovel. Depending where you are from depends if you could get insurance on one as in the UK if you are 17 and thinking of getting it for your first car, it would cost you well past 3 grand insurance. Or you could get the 1.5 version
The VTEC is capable of producing these 0-60 and 1/4 mile times. It needs to be driven by a skilled driver "with those racing gloves". A Del sol VTEC is just about as fast as a GS-R. GS-R's can hit 14.9-15.0 with a skilled driver. I know because I've been to the track with several buddies with them.
@mrhiguy hi. dont u think a toyota 20 valve blacktop motor in an ae111 corolla 2 door is better than vtec? cos 4age20v doesnt have valve lift, it only uses valve timing, and it still has similar figures to a b16A
I love these lil' cars, specially dohc versions. A lot of tuning potential. ...and by tuning I mean suspension, chassis, drivetrain, and engine mods, NOT spoilers and stuff.
i fucking love these lil buggers....they got their design cue's from an older porsche...i forgot what model...but go to google and search around and you will see.....its pretty cool
@coandcaiv actually the rear design is from the ferrari F355 but as for the front they made it them selves but still this is the most butiful honda ever built NOT the fasted but the most butiful
I'm the owner of a 1993 Honda Del Sol Si, with an unmarked V-TEC. The first year they imported them into America. It's my first car. And I'm quite happy with it. The later models seem wider, than the 93, I've noticed.
lol I love motorweeks 0-60 and 1/4 mile times of vtec hondas...they ran a vtec prelude in the 1/4 at 14.6...which is also what they ran a 6 speed lt1 trans am...They must shift right at the limiter and launch perfect, because they get faster times then anyone else and thats coming from a vtec prelude driver. I have bolt ons and I can't break 14.8.
Oh yeah, they aren't testing it with a normal driver, but skilled pros. Still, if I really get on my Sol, I break the tires loose when I shift... and that is a 100% stock 95 VTEC. I can't hit 15.1 with mine, but I've gotten it down to 15.4 with several runs. I don't get where people say that the Sol is heavy, they are a little over 2300 lbs... compare that to the 3200 lb 350Z...
I always thought del sols were more around the 2500-2600 range? I think people consider them heavy for the size, when a civic hatchback is much lighter. The weight is worth it for the targa top, no doubt. I have a 95 h22a prelude, and thats heavy for a honda, not a del sol. It weighs around 2800-2900lbs. I also have 200hp and 160lbs of torque but I know what you're saying about the weight. Even at 2800lbs, I don't consider my lude heavy, and certainly not del sols.
Well, the Sol is 2500-2600 with a driver (depending on how heavy they are), but they are 2340 w/o if I remember correctly. As you said, they aren't heavy, most people are trying to compare them to the hatch and the hatch is deceptively light. The only car I've ever owned that was lighter than my Sol was my old Saturn SC2 (plastic FTW?), but it had maybe 3/4 the horsepower.
I almost got a 'lude myself, but I found my Sol for a steal of a price ($3250, under 92k miles, never modded, B16A3).
Yeah, I've seen that video - that is a nuts Del Sol. The thing pulls up next to that lambo, they both nail it, and that Sol just takes off like the lambo was standing still.
dam nice deal on your sol I just got mine for 3,800 with 168k and is clean not modded but hey they are hard to find this days so is worth it..Im never gona sell mine gona keep it till u dont see a del sol on the road haha
I plan on keeping mine until it falls apart. It now has 120k on it and is still w/o mods. I plan on doing only a few mods - Intake, Header, Exhaust, upgrade cams to GSR intake and ITR exhaust, add a supercharger and water/methanol injection system. All and all, I hope for about 250hp at the wheels when I'm done. I'm also buying body parts to make the body a replica of the super-rare JDM Mugen edition Del Sol. After I get the parts, I'm painting it myself and calling it good.
Picked mine up a few weeks ago for 3k. 130k on chassis, professionally done jdm D15b VTEC swap with receipts + a new A/C system. < 60k on motor, new paint, smoooth 5 spd. and updated roof seals (its a 94). I love this car.
hatch backs are actually heavier then del sol's. My friend had a 1994 civic hatch and i have a 1993 del sol. Mine is a si with the b16 and his is the si with the d16z6 and gross weight on my door is 2900, gross weight (fully loaded, full on gas ect. basically full of usless shit no one needs) on his door is 3000. so my car is around 2500 and his is 2600. I don't see where people say del sols are heavy mabey for their size but not heavy at all, unless you compare them to a crx or something.
Thats not true. The gross weight may be so, but the curb weight of a 94 hatch ranges from ~2100lbs to 2300lbs for the Si. The lightest Del Sol you can get (S model) is almost 2600lbs. my prelude is around 2900lbs but its considered really heavy. in reality no 90's honda is "heavy" but del sols are heavier then comparable civics.
i don't know who told you that but i don't go by curb weight thats with nothing in the car what soever. I go by gross weight cause curb weight is not accurate. Gross weight on the door is much more accurate because it comes from the manufacturer but going from the door sticker on my friends door and the sticker on my door mine being a si del sol and the sicker on his door which his is si civic my car is lighter based on manufacturer weight ratings. Not what pops up on google for curb weight.
While you're on google, do yourself a favor and google what gross vehicle weight means. Of course a civic hatchback's gross weight is high, thats because it seats 5 people and can hold a lot of cargo. a Del Sol's gross weight is near the same or equal and only seats 2 with a smaller cargo capacity. Comprende?
your dumb i said i went by the GVWR on the door of both cars not google, i specifically said in don't look at what pops up on google and my GVWR on was 200 pounds lighter then the hatchback your not gonna save 200 pounds by taking just the back seats out douche bag. Civic hatchbacks are overrated and overpriced. and plus the cargo capacity is way bigger on the del sol then the hatch. the hatch has literally no trunk. the trunk in the del sol is actually pretty big. get your facts straight guy.
Are you on drugs? Look up what the GVWR means! Its the FULLY LOADED weight, and I'm not sure if you are blind or just mentally challenged, but that means with the trunk full, and max passengers. A del sol can seat 2 passengers, a civic hatchback seats 5. I'm sure a del sol's trunk has room, but a civic hatchback can fit more cargo according to the test that determine the GVWR because it has more cubic room, the volume is bigger...I don't know how to explain it if you can't define GVWR
If you want to know the weight of the car you go by "CURB WEGHT"
I'll give you the actual specs to settle this. These are for the year 1995.
Delsol S:2295lbs
Delsol SI:2414lbs
Delsol VT:2522lbs
CivicHatchDX:2178lbs
Remember that the more options a car has the heavier it is. A civic hatch DX is comparable to a Del Sol S. The weght difference is about 100lbs. The VTEC model has ABS, added stabalizer bars, AC etc.
As an owner of a 95 Del Sol VTEC, I have to say it is my favorite of the four cars I have owned thus far. Sure, a stock VTEC isn't going to outrun a Z or 'Stang GT, but it sips gas while still giving VERY sporty performance.
I just can't wait for the weather to get warmer again, cruising with the top off is a true pleasure.
I would if I still lived in Hawaii, but no such luck. Now I'm in the Kansas City area, it gets REALLY hot and REALLY cold here. Wind chill is in the negative teens right now, that is without me driving at 100+ MPH...
@2002j30a1 Ahh, you from KC too? I still get to tear up the streets of the 435 loop daily, but not in my Sol anymore (totaled 6/20/10, stupid SUV driver ran me into the center median on I-70) - my current weapon of choice is a 92 3000GT VR-4.
@Dreznin poor Sol :( RIP!. VR-4's are nasty cool bro. i had a turbocharged Integra, it was a piece that i picked up for 2500 that i would tear up 69 and 435 in, it was so fun! traded it for a Cobalt and i still have my 6th Gen V6 Accord that i daily around :)
damn thats why my cuzzins del sol beat a mazdaspeed tune and bolt ons and a b16 DA and a dsm turbo and many more and all he has is intake and exhaust, if you've seen one and drove one its one of the best cars honda or any other company has ever made... Fo realZ
