actually the designs fit well for what was made in the 90's, again everything is overshadowed which urks me but if this got touched up a bit it might fly on one of the paid channels, or hell do what green lantern has been doing and release a few stand alone animated movies sure it would be riding on the popularity of the movie but still
I would have been all over this had it got made back in the '90's. Cap's sheild was drawn a tad too small but other than that I'm good with the whole classic look. I love the animated Avengers on Disney, those were my Avengers I grew up reading. The battle against Graviton is CLASSIC, and well done! Looking forward to seeing the Vision coming to the team in the second season. Hated the 1999 Avengers Assembled show, glad they finally got it right.
I didn't particularly like the Sabban cartoon series of X-Men or Spider-Man ... but it looks like they had the right attitude and approach with Captain America. Looks like it would have been a great series. Naturally, it had to die.
This would had been so cool! I hope with the new Thor & Capt.A movies. Marvel gets some great animation & voice actors to do new cartoons. As well as a new Hulk, Ironman, Antman/Giantman & the Wasp & a Avengers. But they need to bring back those cool corney theme songs up the 1966/67's cartoons updated.
This was being developed around the time Marvel went bankrupt, and they put a hold on all animated projects. I read about this in a magazine way back in 1993 I think, might have been Wizard at the time but I'm not sure, and I was really disappointed when I found out it was being shelved. If anything it would have been nice to see a dozen episodes with Cap and Bucky.
The animation on this looked pretty good! I'm impressed! It's a real shame that Captain America didn't get his due until the most recent cartoon, but it's okay because that show is awesome!
This was never made because Fox placed too many rules on them. They weren't allowed to show Nazi uniforms, use the word Nazi, show a swastika, or have people get killed. They finally gave up when they realized they'd have to dumb down the show if they wanted it to get aired.
I'm from Uruguay and our founding father Jose Artigas always carried a copy of the Constitution signed by Washington with him from wich our Constitution was bassed from.
Ignorants chritizise Cap claiming he's too soft or blind for today but they don't realize what makes a man a hero.
It's not what he does but why he fights for, and Cap fights for people's human rights and liberties.
He's not just a hero but the embodiment of hope, justice and freedom for all the americas.
An interesting promo, I would of loved too of seen more episodes of Cap. I like the new Avengers series because Cap is in it. I didn't care much for the earlier Avengers series, It didn't have many of the original members in it. The animation in this promo looks great, I would of collected it on dvd. Maybe with the new movie, they will make a new Cap series, using footage from the promo. Did they have any finished episodes? Just curious.
It's a shame that Cap only has had 1 cartoon series. The 1960's Marvel Superheroes
toon (yes,I own all of the episodes on dvd)although cheezy has a classic feel to it.I hear they're supposed to come out with a new version to coincide with the release of the movie.I'd definately check it out if it's true.
what is really sad about this project is that toybiz had began development on a toy line for this series. once canceled, they took the 3 prototype figures they had ready and released them through other toy lines of the time. the 1st was a Red Skull figure from the spider-man sneak attack series, 2nd was a Captain America figure with a spark throwing shield in the spider-man electro spark series, last was a toys-r-us exclusive two pack with the same Cap figure, with a better shield, and bucky.
@amartinez97 what, you mean like action figures? they did make a silver surfer line. i had some. infact it was the first time characters like thanos, nova, beta ray bill, and adam worlock had figures made of them. look them up. they were pretty awesome for pre-marvel legends figures. in fact the silver surfer line was the first line to really make figures with more than just the basic articulation.
@thecaptainrogers1 OH YEAH wow i totaly forgot, lol sorry to sound a bit ignorant. Yeah they did and one of the figures was a 14inch Galactus, dont know why i forgot about it guess i was thimkinga bout too many things at the same time.
@Ponce1390 Fox choose a Captain America series over a proposed Avengers series, but because of Marvel's Bankrupcy in the late 90's, it didn't go anywhere. Such a loss.
Fast forward to 1999 WB makes Batman Beyond, Fox and Marvel respond with Spider-Man Unlimited and Avengers: United We Stand. This Avengers show was PURE crap. They placed them in the future ONLY because 1)To complete with BB and 2)To sell toys with crappy future armor. And wosre of all the Big 3 were missing from the line up.
This looks like a good promo, and it would have been a good show, taking place in the WWII time. They even got the look right for the Red Skull. What a shame.
@dangel6667 i'm afraid that statement is somewhat redundant. Ever watch the Spawn animated series? Almost every minute was set in the back alleys of a large city, dirty dark, and every episode had at least one sick drugee, rapist, child molester or arms dealer getting brutally beaten and torn apart after doing similar or worse things to others.
It would've been awesome that Captain America gets his own series on TV in the M.A..U. My dad loved Captain America as a young lad and I would love to watch this series but never made it to the airwaves.
First off this were animated series not cartoons, and that Avengers cartoon came out more than a year later. This promo is like from 97 I remember the promos from Fox Kids this was from the days of the first promo of the Magician from Saban.
Marvel was having some tough times when this was greenlit so they made a whole big promo about it but never actually released any episode due their economic problems, I heard they planned like 18 episodes or something.
@BurnRoddy I see no difference between a cartoon and an animated series. Same thing if you ask me. And it's a shame that their economic status prevented them from making this. I'm sure it would have been fun.
@BurnRoddy Maybe they made some ep's, but they never got aired, eh? And they're sitting on some storage shelf. Maybe they'll appear from out of nowhere a couple months before the movie's released this summer.
If this was any other studio I wouldnt have a poblem in accepting there were a few more soundless footage worth an episode or two, In fact acording to what I read a few years ago in a forum I think they made three, but knowing that this is Saban and they would sell their own socks before declaring bankrupcy I doubt there is anything from this era that they have not sold yet.
@Gmove02 captain america doesn't stand for what the u.s. gov does, acording to the comics he's a living symbol of the idea of a free and true country not its gov. if u think about it and actually read the comics about how many times he's gone against the u.s gov. you know he's just symbol of an idea, dumb ass
@Gmove02 Captain America was American Hero on WW2. Specially attack to NAZI & Japanes Inperial Army. NIce American Ass-hole Story. Next Invade to Iran?
Damn good for him. There aren't many people who will ever do as much good as those who crushed the lousy Hun bastards & the lousy Nip bastards. By the way, nice Japanese "Ass-hole" comments. Next to be stomped by an American?
It's clear why they didn't go through with this series. Batman TAS this was not. Hopefully the new Avengers earths mightiest heroes will have a less goofy looking Cap.
Not really The Legend of Prince Valliant was much for its time but this is close to what they did with Silver Surfer.
Silver Surfer was the last and only animated Marvel show at the time CA came out, the longest Marvel show werea Spiderman and it ended in 1998 and X-Men that ended in 1997, in fact Silver Surfer came and went in 1998, Marvel went bankrupcy and they never carried on Saban's Captain America's show.
This would have been an awesome show and it would have been nice to see an animated version of Bucky. Captain America = the standard for Marvel Superheroes. Also did anyone else think the music seemed reminiscent of the A-team theme?
They used to air this in early 98 I think during the promos for that year (reruns of The Tick, and The Magician that was pospossed for the next year) this series should've started in May.
CA is my favorite superhero, I used jump on the bed when they aired the shots from the series, the sight of CA and Bucky is printed in my mind.
When The Magician aired next year, I thought they would air CA but they never mentioned it again.
At that point they started to buy more and more dirty canadian shit and anime and this kind of animation disappeared, luckly I was able to see The Cap in a dignifying place in TAUTS at least in one episode.
Thx for uploading this. To bad they didn't produced the complete show. It could have been a complex one like X-Men. Through the War with Bucky and later with gueststars like Thor, Ironman etc. in the "modern times". But Nazis or something in that direction could never get through the censorship in Germany. I am from German that why I said that. Oh well thanks again for uploading.
We really got cheated out of a potentially epic animated series from a major character in CAP that has gotten the bigtime shaft in current animation. They could have gone all in all sorts of directions with this show but I would have grown tired with WWII motiff after a few eps.
If I see yet another SPIDER-MAN or X-MEN toon greenlit before a CAP one I'm kill someone!
Damn, that Cap cartoon looked like it had potential. They had Bucky up there too riding with his main man Captain America...,they dropped the ball on this one.
@antdaman1983 I think it also includes that this animation style Saban used, which appeared in their Silver Surfer and Spider-Man unlimited, just wasn't as popular at the time. Also, since those shows were cancelled due to ratings, I think Saban just packed in the Marvel toons.
Holy crap ! I didn't know that they ever did any actual animation on this. I'd seen boards and designs but it's cool as hell to see it in motion. It looks as though they took Cap and Bucky and plopped them into G.I. Joe Extreme.
well without that stupid marching band music it would've been cool but that music is about military tradition and it seems like that was a sensitive issue at that time because of the war and it looked like this cartoon was trying to profit off the traditions the militarymen's children watching this as bucky and cap take on military bozos of countries already defeated
@BurnRoddy completely agreed.

@FreedomZealot Nooooo Bane is basically the "evil" Captain America

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!!!!
I WANTED TO WATCH THIS WITH ALL MY GUTS.

I would have watched a couple of episodes, found faults within it and stopped watching it altogether. What up with the frisbee-sized shield?

I know why i never got made I was supposed to be a half hour saturday morning cartoon on the fox kids network in jan of 98 but marve lwent bankrupt
antdaman1983 2 years ago

Wow this pretty cool...to bad they Saban never produced this

Really could've used a Captain America.

Looks like a rough draft, then again, they used this same type of CGI in 90's IRON MAN series.
...Too bad, might have been an interesting cartoon.
