I was looking for videos like this to check for similarities between this style and how you use a 1 1/2 handed european sword and it's amazing how similar the techniques are. :o
There are differences but the basic ideas and moves are equal. Well, I expected this to a certain amount because of the fundamental bio-mechanics.
@Destrillion The polypropylene O bokken by Cold Steel is decent for a starting bokken and is a pretty good choice for sparring, You don't have to worry about the bokken splintering in your face during practice.
@omsigbug You are suppose to be watching his counter, but she doesw iaido and doesn't practice kendo, so I don't know what you are seeing, having no experience myself.
i really enjoyed this tape and the sanse's method of presentation. its honed some of my techniques....like my nuketsuke and noto. so thank you very much. id really like to see more tapes if at all possible though. good health and long life....
Shihan teaches at various schools, but the iaido class is taught in the dojo where I take karate and kobudo (but not from him). Because of my schedule, I can only sit and watch a couple times a month. Shihan's school teaches in the samurai style, specifically reaching under the second blade (although no-one in class wears a second sword!) If I remember right, one of Shihan's ancestors was adoped into a samurai family, so he has the lineage to say so.
Master Mikio Nishiuchi is a very good teacher, respect! Also, I have seen boken spelled two ways. Boken and Bokken is one correct or is it a dialect variation?
wheres your dojo? if u live in CA since i live there to i wanna learn from you!!

I have a question in choosing a good bokken for real practise like hitting pretty hard:
What kind of material would be best to buy and is not too expensive?

@lil1066 I'm in California, but Amazon doesn't like paying taxes, so they closed out anyone in our state having a store with them.

If the female does Iaido she doesn't do noto correctly. Her index finger is out when she does noto. Would be very bad if she had a shinken.
ronin2167 1 year ago
@ronin2167 I don't even know what a shinken is, so I can't comment on her ability!

@hempev Live blade

@hempev Shinken is a live "sharp/real" blade.

@ronin2167 Yes, you told me that a month ago, thank you. The lady in the picture had just started iaido, but has now been doing it for 12 years.

@hempev I forgot....LOL I haven't checked my replies in awhile.

Is it just me or do i see something wrong here?
The lady has the correct stance and all but when she marches an attack she uses her wrists which is COMPLETELY wrong in iaido.
Its a Kendo technique
Nice informative vedio though but the detail is kinda missleading for 1st timers.

@omsigbug Get over it. No need to sharpshoot their technique.

Ninja were practically the opposite of samurai - ninpo is not the same as budou.

Usually bokken, since the it is a long k sound, but it's all romaji, so all secondary to the kanji or gana itself!
