Cave shooters are so fucking annoying and belong in the Eastern Hemishere only, too fucking hard to the point of not being fun.....like AT ALL, the only Cave game I don't mind is DoDonpachi, but even that is ridiculous. Games need to be playable to be fun and if dodging a trillion bullets is fun to you than those are your games. I NEED fun for shmups!
It's hard to believe this is a 1990 game but it is. Both the graphics and sound beat the crap out of everything else released on the Genesis that year and almost everything else released on the Genesis ever.
I thought there was going to be two energy bolts circling around you when you reach lvl 4 for the blue one... I am on the jpn ver. btw, does that make a difference?
Are you talking about Cave shooters? Sadly, only the mediocre Guwange is out in the West, the rest are in Japan BUT some of them are region free i.e. Mushihimesama Futari, Espgaluda 2 and Muchi Muchi Pork. Check them out at Play-Asiadotcom
I don't like "shmups" therefore I don't like this game. I don't want to constantly dodge bullets-- nonstop -- that's all you do in this game. I'd rather play Phantasy Star IV, if we're talking Genesis, which also has better music than this game, btw. And that's just to name one game, or one rpg, in particular, which blows this "shmup" out of the water.
That's your opinion but i don't think it "blows this shmup out of the water" because they are such different games and people may prefer action oriented games. and talking rpgs try Monster Hunter Tri. Better gameplay and music than Phantasy Star IV, which, in other words, blows that "rpg" out of the water. :)
@SkankinDevil89 I am glad that I have a wii because I really want a genesis but I would be missing out on classics like Super Metroid and Gradius 3. Now I dont have to because I have the wii's virtual console. Now I can get all the shmups and etc on the genesis I will buy. and get the classics that I want on the SNES. So really you dont have to choose unless you are a serious collector
@SkankinDevil89 don't sell either console short; They both had plenty of great shmups. Gradius III, Axelay, Parodius, R-Type III, and Sonic Wings are all world renowned shmups found on the SNES along side their sequels.
This level was so astonishing to see back in 1990. At the time, "scaling" was a big deal in arcade games, but something the home consoles couldn't do. The Atari Lynx was the only system at this time that used sprite scaling in hardware.
The Genesis couldn't do scaling or rotation in hardware (like Lynx or SNES' Mode 7), but skillful coders could achieve these effects in software. MUSHA was an early example of this, and what's great is how that's integrated into gameplay. Excellent design!
a kick azz game just bougt a mint and complete copy off ebay thanks for the tip i snaked it up as soon as i saw buy it now lol take care keep up the good job
sorry just saw there saying buy me watched it for a week and then i watched classic game rooms review and decided to buy there will be more of them it is ebay of course take care
i disagree with you saying they should have made more musha games... there are a lot of games where the first is amazing, then they bring out a sequal and it absolutley sucks, and puts you off the entire game series. however, it could work i gues...
Classic Game Room- Have you ever played Gun Nac on the NES? I think it is one of the best SHMUP's on the NES and it is highly underrated. You should maybe review it, I think you'd love it.
20 support fighters??!?!?!?!? i had to do the last 2 levels with a maximum of 3, and 1 life. the last boss was a bitch, since i died at the core part and had to fight the final bodd with a single shot, no special weapons, no little buddies, and no extra lives. i did it, and i was celebrating for a goddamn week lol
This game DOES have a franchise, it is called Aleste/Power Strike. There are numerous installments on other consoles like the Master System, Sega CD and SNES. The Sega CD game is called Robo Aleste and was the follow-up to this game.
Yeah the Game Gear version is pretty fun. I beat it the other day in emulation. It's neat playing GG games in full screen although my laptop screen isn't that big.
I think part of the confusion is the naming. MUSHA was actually called Musha Aleste in Japan, part of a whole bunch of Aleste games that were also released here without "Aleste" in the title. Bit of trivia: "musha" means "warrior" in Japanese, so this could have been directly translated to "Warrior Aleste" if they wanted to. Much of the weapons system has also been carried over from Zanac.

I think it would be pretty awesome to see MUSHA return, perhaps with gameplay similar to Zone of The Enders, which also deserves a new game.

Mark's on about another Musha for the Xbox360, but Cave shooters have got that covered. Mushihimesama, Dodonpachi's, etc.

snes had the rpgs but the genesis had the shmups. which i like both genres but between the two i prefer shmups.

@SkankinDevil89
Shoot, that explains why I love shmups more.
I had a Genesis instead of snes,
also gameboy rpgs kind of killed the fun with all the grinding.
