It's funny, but with Johnny Olsen announcing with that opening I was half-expecting to hear "Take a risk! Take a chance! Take a dare! Play the game of 'Double Dare'…with the host of 'Double Dare,' Alex Trebek!"
I always liked Jim Perry. When he was replaced, I quit watching the show. And of course, the rules and format changed. By 1986, it wasn't worth flip...
Let me just say that the Doubles Push rule is my least favourite rule ever, and if they ever revive Card Sharks, I would like to see them dropping that rule, because it kills the suspense in the Money Cards.
@BJWanlund I respect your opinion, but I strongly disagree with it. If I were playing under the original rules, I would have been very conservative, even if it was a great card, because I wouldn't have been willing to be burned on a double-ace or double-deuce if I bet everything on either. I think that the producers did a smart thing by changing from the original rules to the new rules, both here and for Eubanks/Rafferty.
@BJWanlund I would gladly trade some of that fear of double aces or deuces "suspense" for some halfway decent payouts in the Money Cards. Frankly, I think the fact that the rule took so long to be implemented is one of the reasons the first version got cancelled. When you keep saying you can win over $25,000, it's frustrating to watch contestants struggle to get 1/10 of that. Watch "The Terrible Threes" episode. THAT'S a lack of suspense. And any one of those calls could lead to the same result.
@BJWanlund I disagree, if Card Sharks gets revived, keep the Push Rule @ the Money Cards even @ the big bet, that way a player can't lose with an Ace or a 2.
It's also interesting hearing Johnny O. opening this show, since a few years earlier he was announcing on CBS for a show with the same music and similar opening: "Take a risktake a chancetake a dare. Play the game of 'DOUBLE DARE'with the host of 'Double Dare,' Alex Trebek!" (By the way, the Edd Kalehoff-composed theme was actually titled "Double Dare," an indication that it was actually written for that show.)
Great find on GSN. Any idea when was the first episode where the push rule actually worked? (Bet Bev wished it did for her!) I just skimmed through this episode, did anyone get the $500 exact guess bonus? Again if not, when was the first?
Watching this reminds me what a great talker Jim Perry was.

I would keep the push rule for the first 2 rows, but not allow for a push on the BIG BET, that would provide some suspense.

How do you think Johnny Olson did announcing for Card Sharks?

Did you add in the TPIR losing horns?

They were not added in--both shows used them.

644, huh? I wonder why it took them 643 shows to realize that losing on a push in Money Cards wasn't fair?

I guess they just figured it wouldn't be that big of a deal--then came the show with the four threes in a row during the Money Cards.
