The person raised up the mast is taking advantage of the extra height to ‘find’ wind for his team. In light or fluky conditions, he can see puffs of wind on the water (the ripples make the water look slightly darker) from further away. He relays this information to the helmsman who steers the boat towards the ‘new’ wind.
and of course is he able to provide this great footage.
these boat always have a man up in the rigg for tactical dessicions, or is it only for good footages?
