true scuba030, but there are good dive story sites on the net too. My favourite is the myscubastory site. They have dive stories about accidents, funny events, shark encounters, wreck discoveries, and they also have diving videos about the previous topics! Type myscubastory into google and its the first one.
@blahbahlicious Michelle, we've been so conditioned by movies etc. to fear sharks. But we're not even on the possible menu of any but the largest sharks (even though we swim through their restaurants). Most shark "attacks" are cases of mistaken identity (surfers looking like tasty seals) or less-than-brilliant people who provoke or trap a shark. But still, the first time I saw a shark it took a lot of breath control for me to ~calm down. As Forrest Gump would say, awesome is as awesome does.
I have heard that lemon sharks are among the more aggressive species. I'm not sure that's intrinsically true--it may be that just because of their larger size (and outwardly threatening orthodontics!) they may have gained that reputation. At least in Moorea, that spot is a regular lemon shark "feeding" spot, so apparently they're not universally aggressive toward humans.
hey! This looks like that huge walk through aquarium tank in louisiana! Were you filming this through the glass? ( hides from the smack) just kidding lol
You don't need to be afraid of those sharks as long as you are not stupid enough to keep a dead fish in your hand for some time. (and even then they would perhaps get the fish without harming you)
Sharks are far more intelligent than most ppl think and they can easily check if sth is food or not without biting it.
Thanks for visiting, Linda! Visibility in Moorea was very good, though our small group compromised on convenience by going there rather than Bora Bora. Blacktip sharks were constant companions, so we stopped noticing them after a while. Moorea is a lot less crowded and developed than Tahiti, so it was fairly 'exotic,' though not as much as Bora Bora I'm sure. I'll be sending you a private email re Eva Cassidy.
Ray love this video, I would love to swim with them sharks!! The nearest I've come to doing anything like this is swimming with turtles in Barbados last year!
It's paradoxical that you, master of sound, would visit my only "silent" video.
In my experience, finding turtles to swim with is harder than finding sharks to swim with, so congrats! My Belize animal life video has a turtle encounter near the beginning.
You've really got to respect the sharks... they're really more graceful than they are dangerous to people. We're not on their normal menu. You just have to respect their space and learn their habits, and not do anything that makes you look like their food!
i live in florida so i go to the beach alot itz juz scary hearing on the news all the time *shark attack* lmao but maybe u should take me with you next time and i wouldnt be scared anymore! haha
Shark "attacks" on humans are almost always cases of mistaken identity or the shark's response to being taunted. Especially at dawn or dusk sharks can't easily tell the difference between a seal (yummy) and a surfer (byech!). Almost all shark incidents happen at the surface, where sharks can't see thing as well, so it's better if you're a scuba diver--underwater!
If you don't want to be one of those cases of mistaken identity, just be sure to bring a drivers license or passport when you go snorkeling or diving. You should be fine.
Yes, sharks are really so graceful and beautiful, and (99% of the time, if not provoked) very calm and serene. They're really just another fish, though one you've got to respect more than most others.
If you go on a dive trip, bring a waterproof guitar to make background music for my videos.
Props to you for filming this, but I'm just as happy to be a watcher on dry land. LOL They really are beautiful and graceful, but I can admire them from here.
I share your wariness of sharks, since they are the evolutionary primo predator. Luckily most so-called shark "attacks" are cases of mistaken identity or the result of our own provocation.
We're not on their normal menu. But we do swim through their restaurant.
DRMF: I spent half of my younger days in FL, much of it on the beach and in the water. I know what you're saying is true and never really worried about it much then, but still always hoped not to bump into one as we were thrashing around in the surf, trying our best to look like food. Somehow, though, being down there in the water with them swimming all around me, I just don't think I could do what you do/did. Again: mad props to you.
Brandi, when I made this video I didn't know how to get music I could use without violating copyright laws. Yep, the shark make anyone nervous, but we're not on the menu of the vast majority of sharks. Most of the time they're more beautiful and graceful than they are dangerous.
ZM, I've been on a number of dive trips to the Caribbean, but unfortunately my only trip to Grand Cayman was before I started diving. I'm glad Hurricane Dean wasn't a direct hit on your beautiful islands.
Thanks, so were we.... Fox News and MSNBC both published my photos from Dean, but neither paid me for it.... DANGIT!!!!
The diving is still marvelous here. You'll have to come back some time... April to September is mango season, and that's when I'm telling everyone to visit. The mangoes are like a religious experience!!!
manuteau, I understand there are fantastic kelp forests in California waters, so living there without diving is a wasted opportunity. And L.A. itself has more dangerous sharks than the Pacific ever will!
if you like sharks check out adoptashark(dot)com online where you can adoptashark that has a satellite tag and then they tell you where it went and how deep etc, very cool
Tahiti, Bora Bora and Moorea are so beautiful and your video shows only a small fraction. I always recommend these islands when someone wants to get away. Great video and keep travelling.

@moniquemonicat Thanks, Monique, I am happy that you liked the video.

I added the soundtrack *after* the video was uploaded.
The soundtrack is from YouTube's "audioswap" feature.
Best wishes.

As the black tips suddenly disappeared at 1:50 they where following the lemon shark because it had the tuna?

Ja, viele Fische jagten nach dem Zitronenhai. Sie hofften auf kleinere Stuecke, dass die Zitronenhais verlassen würde zu bekommen.
