I hate thin strings; thick strings are better for metal especially when you need low action :) Also; you really need to play a guitar before you can really make an opinion on it. I know the video is old but just saying
The thiner the strings, the smaller the sounds. The main reason why people put thin strings on is because they are way easier to play with. Also, people like them because they don't create much tension on the neck and put strain on the coil and all.
Why didn't you talk about pickups? They are what makes the les paul. :)

It gives it a smooth classic sound, you have to know from personal experience, and if youd had that properly youd know what im on about.
