the reason why they demolished the old Yankee stadium was to make more jobs for people.....according to my dad. My uncle said the Yankee stadium has looked horrible ever since its "restoration" in the 1970s. I'm glad that new stadium was built to resemble the house that Ruth built.
I feel the same way about the Wachovia Spectrum and Veterans Stadium! I thought they were so original to Philadelphia (they were) but New things will seem original over the years so you showed me how we should think of these buildings doing down.
Try 461 Feet!...and you're both right....Steinbrenner destroyed Yankee Stadium with his inistance on that awful renovation of the mid 70's...It's the reason tearing down the stadium didn't really effect me...Foe me Yankee Stadium has been gone for many years...
The Stadium was too big for Steinbrenner; hence it has to be destroyed. Also, in the late 60's the Yankees were losing and there were too many empty seats in that magnificent upper deck. The "remodeled" Stadium was just an ordinary ballpark, while the original was a Cathedral.
Yankee Stadium was destroyed in the 1970's when they "refurbished" it. Anybody who went to a game at the original stadium will remember the majesty. The expanse of 457 feet to left center. 457! The big black center field wall. The facade. The flag pole and monuments on the playing field. To me, the rebuilt stadium looked too much like bad
I really enjoyed this movie, as a baseball fan. I have never been to Yankee Stadium, but I do consider myself privileged to have been to games at Michigan and Trumbull before the demolition of that gem. The movie was really put together well. Good job.
The thing is, Yankee Stadium as you see it today is not the "house the Ruth built". The transformation it underwent in the 70s changed it drastically. Today, home plate is nearer to where pitcher's mound was in the original layout. The entire perimeter of the lower section of seats was taken out and the field lowered six feet. The field pushed out about forty feet (my guess). The upper deck completely rebuilt. I have no more space to write.
This was beautiful. Again, your stills said a lot and got your point across really well.
I knew how you felt especially at the beginning with the Kingdome. I grew up on baseball there, too, and yeah, Safeco is a great field, but seeing it demolished like that was like seeing a childhood friend get killed.
That sounds stupid. But it's true.
So you're in film school in NYC? That's where I want to go when I graduate. ^.^
Wow man this has to be the best documentary i have ever seen. I really like the Yankees but you have defined what it means to be a true fan. Thank you for your memories of that great stadium. You have got a real shot at a career with this.

A decent film considerably how little footage he had to work with. However, no one from Seattle ever refers to the city as "Seattle, Washington."

The reason is progress my son. Plus when money is in play nothing else matters. If you were 100 lbs. heavier you could pass for Michael Moore.

He failed to mention Shea Stadium.

The 'remodeling' destroyed Yankee Stadium. It was too big for George Steinbrenner, too magnificent, too overwhelming for his limited vision.

Not many people can make a good documentary with just stills. I don't even like baseball but I enjoyed this film. That's a mark of a good director.
