cool, now your subaru sounds like my fully built turbo integra, i got a magnaflow muffler and it sounds hard, not some high pitched weedwacking shit like most other shit hondas
The boxer engine isn't what makes the characteristic rumble noise, it's that fact that some nut decided to loop the exhaust runner up around the front of the engine and back down the other side defying any sense of efficient exhaust routing. The unequal length header does produce one of the sexiest engine sounds in existence, so we let Subaru get away with it. Give me some 2.5" stainless and a TIG welder and I could make a civic make the same noise.
sounds nice bro!... is funny to see people saying that the rumble is caused by the subaru engine hahaha, I agree with you, the s202, 3, 4 and the type Ra-R come with EL headers... because they are way more effiecient.
how ur car running ? all good? you changed from uel header to el header? did you notice the increase in power/response?
I just spent 10 minutes listening to a guy who installed tomei EL and tomei UEL headers and compared the sounds.... I keep going back and forth trying to see if I could tell the difference. I asked a friend to toggle back and forth in the video without telling me while I closed my eyes. and to my surprise, I could barely tell the difference....
I invite you to do the test yourself (its the video with the orange wrx) and be honest with yourself and see if you can tell the difference yourself.
@Ladon68 Buying a car with over 200 horsepower that is meant to perform in an automatic is a crime. Paddle shifters or semi-automatics I can forgive, but this car begs for a manual. If you drive a stick, you should know.
@NASTYTHEBOY i've heard of it, never examined one so i don't know the layout, so it's like a v-type motor but completely flat? that's crazy, seems like it's be a real rough motor setup that way
All these people rippin in the sound of el headers is ridiculous. I got an 04 sti with Perrin EL headers and a Fujitsubo exhaust with Tomei 282 cams. It sounds like a f***ing rally car and spools like crazy.
@turbosti04 most people who care enough to hate on the basis that it has an equal length headers are obviosly not worried about performance, so there is really no point to argue with them. any car with power sounds good as i am sure yours does. its kinda silly to like a car just because of the way it sounds. id base any car id ever own on its performance.
i am thinking about headers on my 04, so far ive just got a sr*s turbo-back exhaust but i am scared to death of messing with that uppipe, i heard u gotta loosen the engine and all... im not too experienced with any of that. o and mines an auto tranny too, i was wondering, is there ANY way to get a good launch with an auto? brake-n-gas is still horribly slow off the line, and thats where i need it. im not fond of slamming it from neut. to drive at 5k, figure its not good. any helps appreciated!

what a fag honda sound, and u changed rims which look like a vw, man wat u got urself here is a not a wrx but a volkswagon rimmed car with honda sound.
You sir need to clean up your language, and spend more time reading books than posting on the web. You understand that at the time this car was made by the factory the most powerful JDM WRX models left with equal length headers, and this sound, stock? As for the rims, they are Enkei RPM-2s, which in their split spoke design have held up against some pretty nasty road conditions for years. Now take some sensitivity training, or at a minimum, just grow up.
I wouldn t listen to all the haters, they havn t a clue what they are talking about, iv had equal length headers on mine for a while now and i think it sounds awsome coupled with a strait through exhaust system and dump valve, can hear the turbo whistling and it spools up around 500 rpm sooner not to mention the extra power iv got out of it, id like to see a honda that spits flames out of the exhaust between gears and roars like mine does.
@scooterforever Sensitivity training? Hows about you grow some skin son? If someone runs their mouth either ignore the little bitch or kick it like a bitch.
You do not know what you are talking about. Larger diameter is one thing, but what EL headers do is smooth out the exhaust pulses. If this so badly lost its "Subaru" sound, then why does Subaru ship EL exhaust cars?
@scooterforever You have to understand that the "Subaru" sound is important to some owners in being different. My street car has the UEL but my old wrx that turned into a rally/tack project got EL. There is a reason the JDM Sti have the EL.
@scooterforever I dont think the HP gain is worth trading in the sound. If you wanna pick up 25 hp just get a tune or somn like that. I love the sound unequal length headers produce. That signature sound enables me to identify a subaru without even seeing it. Hey its your car do whatever you want with it, but ill never put EL in my subie.. not even in the trunk
hey guys whats up i have 2 questions. i just bought a red 2002 bugeye wrx 2.0L Turbo and i think im getting the generic bugeye fuel leak, i need to know what parts have to be replaced and how much it will cost. im also getting a strang water leak inside my car and in the trunk which is causing severe condensation, i need to know if there are any well know problem areas for leaks in this car so i can patch it up with silicone and dry it up, thank you guys... im open for responce and feedback :)
I got the fuel leak last winter. All I did was take it to a subaru dealership and they fixed it under warranty. Even though the car was over 5 years old they still did it for free. If you reason with them enough yours will be free too
Agreed. And I know the performance reason for doing it, but i love that boxer rumble. Im not all for sound, I cant stand it when wrx owners go and add a bov when its actually hurting your car b/c the ecu calculates the recirc. air and you end up dumping that out for a psssstt. Ridiculous, you need at least 20 psi to make a bov usefull.
What high end sti engine comes with this? Did you also know that the sti engines are 2.0 in japan. The reason is that they have better gas than we do. Same with the spec c.
Displacement is overrated. Most people would take a version 7 or version 8 JDM 2.0L with its forged components, and >8,000 rpm rev limit over a stock USDM STi 2.5L shortblock any day of the week. Unless of course it's a fully built 2.5L shortblock balanced for a 8,500 RPM rev limit... which mine is.
*Im swapping a jdm v.8 in my wrx and its a 2.0 Ltr. No such thing as a 2.5L. If you want a "JDM/USDM Sti all you would do is just switch shortblocks, but other then that, no such thing.
LMAO Then you need to go look what it has come with for the last 2 years minimum. Its got a 2.5 in it RIGHT NOW. Hit me up on nasioc and I can provide links. Or magazine articles, or aboot 150 THOUSAND people that can tell you they are 2.5s now.
Go back and read the older WRC rules. They were limited to 2.0Ls and the production vehicles that they were based off of had to have a certain number of the same motor, the STI and evo were limited enough production cars that they just made them all 2.0Ls. And its not like they didnt get enough power out of them as a 2.0L.
Correct, but the 2.5 makes the max tourque earlier in the RPM, not saying that a simple tune couldn't do the same for the 2.0, just throwing it out there.
The BOV is a stock JDM STi bypass valve. It is not an aftermarket BOV. The ECU is perfectly tuned. I run Street Tuner, have an wideband AFR gauge in the cockpit.
and i hear from that video that regular engine rpm is not stable. When u press the gas and then leave it, rpm's goes down, less then 800, and then goes up. That is not good. Could be the detonation or bov problem...
I have relistened to it several times, and I'm just not hearing it. There is no detonation, as I would know if there is ANY detonation -- in addition to a wideband AFR, I have a Knocklink (a secondary knock sensor wired to the cockpit). As for bov... it's the stock (JDM STi) bpv, and seems to be working fine.
yea, what are you talking about? i dont hear it either. i know u dont speak english and everythig but i dont think he was doing what ever youre refering too.
