  • cool, now your subaru sounds like my fully built turbo integra, i got a magnaflow muffler and it sounds hard, not some high pitched weedwacking shit like most other shit hondas

  • The boxer engine isn't what makes the characteristic rumble noise, it's that fact that some nut decided to loop the exhaust runner up around the front of the engine and back down the other side defying any sense of efficient exhaust routing. The unequal length header does produce one of the sexiest engine sounds in existence, so we let Subaru get away with it. Give me some 2.5" stainless and a TIG welder and I could make a civic make the same noise.

  • man, i feel like my 2.0 with turbo back sounds way deeper and meaner. I love my boxer rumble.

  • to the owner of this video...id like to know what kind of education you have.

    cause your very well spoken.

    Also i likes your auto!

  • sounds nice bro!... is funny to see people saying that the rumble is caused by the subaru engine hahaha, I agree with you, the s202, 3, 4 and the type Ra-R come with EL headers... because they are way more effiecient.

how ur car running ? all good? you changed from uel header to el header? did you notice the increase in power/response?

    Regads

  • shitties sounding subaru ever!

  • Why do you have to put your hands 3 and 9 position to rev it in park/neutral

  • subaru may sell cars with el headers but its just not the same. i like my scooby to rumble not burn rice. :/

  • haha i have an 05 with a 4eat also.. its lame but one day ill have a 6mt in there

  • Automatic...

  • I just spent 10 minutes listening to a guy who installed tomei EL and tomei UEL headers and compared the sounds.... I keep going back and forth trying to see if I could tell the difference. I asked a friend to toggle back and forth in the video without telling me while I closed my eyes. and to my surprise, I could barely tell the difference....

I invite you to do the test yourself (its the video with the orange wrx) and be honest with yourself and see if you can tell the difference yourself.

  • GOD equal length header sound awful, good thing i ordered unequal

  • Bugeye FTW!

  • do you like the borla hush?

  • @frypod18

I have the borla hush and i LOVE it. check my vid in my channel. Im running stock UEL headers, which give it that subie rumbie subaru is known for :D

  • sorry you have an auto :(

  • who the fuck buys an auto WRX.....

  • @HevyMetalHomeBoy i was sitting here thinking the exact same thing.

  • @HevyMetalHomeBoy I know, I always hate it when I see one, makes me want to cry.

  • @PhantasmAMX Why, it was his choice.

  • @Ladon68 Buying a car with over 200 horsepower that is meant to perform in an automatic is a crime. Paddle shifters or semi-automatics I can forgive, but this car begs for a manual. If you drive a stick, you should know.

  • sounds gay

  • i like how you own the haters :)

i made an EL turbo manifold for my tdo5 16g turbo :D

the spool is insane and it gets all glowy :3

  • i don't know anything about Subaru's, but that's a 4cyl so wouldn't it have one header instead of two? i've always seen one header per cylinder bank

  • @snakesonaplane2 the subarus are opposed4s..... like a porcshe or a vw, think of a 180 deegree v4, its called the boxer engine :]

  • @NASTYTHEBOY i've heard of it, never examined one so i don't know the layout, so it's like a v-type motor but completely flat? that's crazy, seems like it's be a real rough motor setup that way

  • @snakesonaplane2 theyre very powerful, very relaible motors, and fuel efficient too =] and they like being turbocharged :3

  • aww it doesnt sound good anymore :'(

  • Nice car man! also like the rims what kind are they?

  • All these people rippin in the sound of el headers is ridiculous. I got an 04 sti with Perrin EL headers and a Fujitsubo exhaust with Tomei 282 cams. It sounds like a f***ing rally car and spools like crazy.

  • @turbosti04 most people who care enough to hate on the basis that it has an equal length headers are obviosly not worried about performance, so there is really no point to argue with them. any car with power sounds good as i am sure yours does. its kinda silly to like a car just because of the way it sounds. id base any car id ever own on its performance.

  • Jacks buissness company mulching

  • i am thinking about headers on my 04, so far ive just got a sr*s turbo-back exhaust but i am scared to death of messing with that uppipe, i heard u gotta loosen the engine and all... im not too experienced with any of that. o and mines an auto tranny too, i was wondering, is there ANY way to get a good launch with an auto? brake-n-gas is still horribly slow off the line, and thats where i need it. im not fond of slamming it from neut. to drive at 5k, figure its not good. any helps appreciated!

  • junk it the origanal ones were better and take the brake dust off that front rim

  • the equal length headers sound great

  • Don't sweat it. I think you have a nice car and give you props for building a car that has nuts.

Ripping on the car because he went with an exhaust design that favors power over "rumble" just makes all the haters look like ricey morons. BTW - The rims look good too!

  • personally i prefer the unequal but hell if its a subi and runs like a subi...fuck it mad props!.

    -06 WRX TR

  • you prefer the unequal bc it makes the subie rumble...i got the same car as you...what have you dont to yours?

  • HKS 3" down pipe and full 3" hi power, VF39(18psi) Access port stage2 CA/AZ/NV91 LC,APS 725DR front mount, K&N intake, zero sport WRC main under drive pulley, STi throttle body ported, tien H tech spring, front H brace(cusco), front/rear strut tower bar's, rear endlinks (kartboy), rear 1in sway(cusco), rear T ladder brace(GTspec), full gut(no interior), 2 sparco seats, 2 sparco 5 points, cuobb short throw. est WHP is 330, est WTQ is 345. car weight 2970,

  • that sicks haha...i wish i had money for at least a vf39 injectors fuel pump and big top mount...but i dont so tbe and tune is all for me =)

  • slowly but surely you will get there....so far this build has been taking me just shy of 3 years

  • ha +25 hp for exhaust sound? you act like this guy has committed some sort of hanus crime by being a true car guy. who cares what it sounds like? as long as you're making the power and putting it to the wheels who cares?

  • how about not sounding like a ricer and enjoying your cars idle

  • You fail at life.

  • I can't really hear that beautiful Sti rumle :-(..why did you get equal length headers! The stock ones are the best sounding!

  • You sir need to clean up your language, and spend more time reading books than posting on the web. You understand that at the time this car was made by the factory the most powerful JDM WRX models left with equal length headers, and this sound, stock? As for the rims, they are Enkei RPM-2s, which in their split spoke design have held up against some pretty nasty road conditions for years. Now take some sensitivity training, or at a minimum, just grow up.

  • I wouldn t listen to all the haters, they havn t a clue what they are talking about, iv had equal length headers on mine for a while now and i think it sounds awsome coupled with a strait through exhaust system and dump valve, can hear the turbo whistling and it spools up around 500 rpm sooner not to mention the extra power iv got out of it, id like to see a honda that spits flames out of the exhaust between gears and roars like mine does.

  • @scooterforever Sensitivity training? Hows about you grow some skin son? If someone runs their mouth either ignore the little bitch or kick it like a bitch.

  • @blueeyez24 the car looks sick you sound stupid end of story

  • @blueeyez24

too right sir. and some1 should teach him how to rev a car

  • they do sell unequal larger diameter headers. you get the power without losing the sound

  • You do not know what you are talking about. Larger diameter is one thing, but what EL headers do is smooth out the exhaust pulses. If this so badly lost its "Subaru" sound, then why does Subaru ship EL exhaust cars?

  • i never said that its a bad sound. i just dont really prefer it thats all.

  • @scooterforever You have to understand that the "Subaru" sound is important to some owners in being different. My street car has the UEL but my old wrx that turned into a rally/tack project got EL. There is a reason the JDM Sti have the EL.

  • @scooterforever yeah i've noticed that when u change it to extractors it loses the sound. Why is this?

  • i know it adds like 25 hp but it isnt worth being a honda

  • You would have to look a long time for a Honda that would be the equal of this ride.

  • @scooterforever it dosent rumble! rawr!

  • @scooterforever I dont think the HP gain is worth trading in the sound. If you wanna pick up 25 hp just get a tune or somn like that. I love the sound unequal length headers produce. That signature sound enables me to identify a subaru without even seeing it. Hey its your car do whatever you want with it, but ill never put EL in my subie.. not even in the trunk

  • Sounds like shit!

  • if you put equal length headers on a rex you take away that beautiful wrx sound why would you do that?

  • hey guys whats up i have 2 questions. i just bought a red 2002 bugeye wrx 2.0L Turbo and i think im getting the generic bugeye fuel leak, i need to know what parts have to be replaced and how much it will cost. im also getting a strang water leak inside my car and in the trunk which is causing severe condensation, i need to know if there are any well know problem areas for leaks in this car so i can patch it up with silicone and dry it up, thank you guys... im open for responce and feedback :)

  • I got the fuel leak last winter. All I did was take it to a subaru dealership and they fixed it under warranty. Even though the car was over 5 years old they still did it for free. If you reason with them enough yours will be free too

  • I would never put equal length headers on subaru.

  • auto tranny is for gays and girls.

  • Or drag racing. A built 4EAT will be 10x more consistant. But for everything else... yeah it stinks.

  • I don;t think it sounds way too different then a normal US boxer engine, i think its actually a nice median

  • riv it up pussy

  • buy a car little boy

  • Why would you want to take away a great feature to this car, the boxer rumble? When you add equal length headers.

  • For the record, the high end Japanese version of this car comes with equal length headers. That's right... the JDM STi is an equal length car.

  • Agreed. And I know the performance reason for doing it, but i love that boxer rumble. Im not all for sound, I cant stand it when wrx owners go and add a bov when its actually hurting your car b/c the ecu calculates the recirc. air and you end up dumping that out for a psssstt. Ridiculous, you need at least 20 psi to make a bov usefull.

  • What high end sti engine comes with this? Did you also know that the sti engines are 2.0 in japan. The reason is that they have better gas than we do. Same with the spec c.

  • Displacement is overrated. Most people would take a version 7 or version 8 JDM 2.0L with its forged components, and >8,000 rpm rev limit over a stock USDM STi 2.5L shortblock any day of the week. Unless of course it's a fully built 2.5L shortblock balanced for a 8,500 RPM rev limit... which mine is.

  • the jdm sti is only a 2.0 because the rally rules state a car cannot have over a 2.0 for competition

  • actually jdm companies make there cars with smaller engines because of tax..in japan u pay more or less taxes depending on engine size

  • No, they were making them a 2.0 because of WRC homologation rules (spelling check on that...)

  • no it hasn't. Where the hell did you here this? I have yet to hear about a 2.5L jdm STi. Im swapping a jdm v

  • *Im swapping a jdm v.8 in my wrx and its a 2.0 Ltr. No such thing as a 2.5L. If you want a "JDM/USDM Sti all you would do is just switch shortblocks, but other then that, no such thing.

  • You are aware that the Version8 is a 3 model year old motor right? The V8 was the last 2.0L STI made.

  • LMAO Then you need to go look what it has come with for the last 2 years minimum. Its got a 2.5 in it RIGHT NOW. Hit me up on nasioc and I can provide links. Or magazine articles, or aboot 150 THOUSAND people that can tell you they are 2.5s now.

  • send me info through RingU on nasioc, thanks.

  • the japanese models are 2.0 tho. but the uk ones have been 2.5 for a few years now

  • Yeah thats wrong.

Go back and read the older WRC rules. They were limited to 2.0Ls and the production vehicles that they were based off of had to have a certain number of the same motor, the STI and evo were limited enough production cars that they just made them all 2.0Ls. And its not like they didnt get enough power out of them as a 2.0L.

  • So I'm guessing they changed the rules after 2005? Hence, the 2.5L blocks in the 2006+ WRX/STi's.

  • all usdm STI are 2.5L

the JDM sti are 2.0L and have the same hp/torque as the 2.5L :P

  • Correct, but the 2.5 makes the max tourque earlier in the RPM, not saying that a simple tune couldn't do the same for the 2.0, just throwing it out there.

  • sounds like a dog in heat.

  • i like sti's but this one sounds terrible. no offence man

  • BOV kills ur engine...

    u need to tune ECU

  • The BOV is a stock JDM STi bypass valve. It is not an aftermarket BOV. The ECU is perfectly tuned. I run Street Tuner, have an wideband AFR gauge in the cockpit.

  • i cant talk well in english.

and i hear from that video that regular engine rpm is not stable. When u press the gas and then leave it, rpm's goes down, less then 800, and then goes up. That is not good. Could be the detonation or bov problem...

  • I have relistened to it several times, and I'm just not hearing it. There is no detonation, as I would know if there is ANY detonation -- in addition to a wideband AFR, I have a Knocklink (a secondary knock sensor wired to the cockpit). As for bov... it's the stock (JDM STi) bpv, and seems to be working fine.

  • yea, what are you talking about? i dont hear it either. i know u dont speak english and everythig but i dont think he was doing what ever youre refering too.

  • Thank you. If I'm annoying the Mitsu crowd I must be doing something right.

  • Still sounds like unequal length headers to me lol, But then porting the OEM headers are just as good. imho.

  • seriously, that sounds like a Diesel! looks nice but sounds....strange?

  • "Those are Enkei RPM2 17x7 rims. Light and strong, coming in around 16.9 lbs per rim, they weigh about the same as the 16 inch stockers." ur a dumbass.

  • y did he get EVO rims.

  • Those are Enkei RPM2 17x7 rims. Light and strong, coming in around 16.9 lbs per rim, they weigh about the same as the 16 inch stockers.

  • i dont see why strength matters. rims are for looks, not supporting the tire or anything. but the look jus like evo rimes rofl

  • yeah not like they have to hold the car up or anything jesus christ you're a moron

  • :( Auto Scooby

  • An auto scooby that can do 11.x second quarter mile. :)

  • 4EAT FTW!!

Fastest WRXs out there are 4EAT btw :P

  • equal length > unequal length

  • now your car sounds like a civic. Nice job buddy :(

  • the unequal headers sound reminds me of old carb'd v8 trucks with glasspacks. Its an interesting sound but that 'boxer sound' is entirely the unequal length headers.

You get more power with the equal length headers, and it doesn't sound bad at all, IMO.

Guy on /o/ is turboing his Legacy and he has equal length headers he bought, although without the turbo is sounds god-awful.

    Equal>Unequal

  • its not a suby unless it rocks the boxer sound. Nice car though.

  • Hmm. Still seems to look like a Subaru. The 3/4 headers aren't for everyone. Equal length for the center square...and the win! :)

  • excuse me, thne that means the Spec C isn't a Subie then [has standard Equal Lenth headers] and I guess that rules out the 2.5i's also, huh.....

  • n0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0!!! go back to unequal length =[
