  • The one on top is the queen. She is huge!! O.O

  • Hey there this is Hornissen from the VL love your vids a lot I can't wait to get another bombus nest to play with and do vids of an vids of my honeybees.

  • Very nice work maculaifrons. :)

  • You should protect the entrance / door with a special flap; check my videos. Bumble bees will learn how to use it, but wax butterflies cannot come inside anymore.

  • is it a craffinch that singing in the background?

  • These are very common here in Ontario, Canada - even in the cities. Somehow they survived whatever is wiping out the honeybees. I've found them to be easy going, although I've never encountered a nest of them before.

  • wonderfull :D i thought that bombus were solitaries bees.

  • I always wondered if bumble bees were able to produce edible honey...

  • Thats graet idea

  • so so cute ;)

  • I just dig into a nest on accident about 20 minutes ago, I ran like a girl D:

  • god that queen is huge. id hate to run into her outside.

  • no she is cute, she wont hurt you

  • did they sting u when u collected the nest?

  • luckily no but there were only 5 workers lol. care must be taken when dealing with a large nest though because bumble bees can be really nasty when their nest is disturbed

  • i see, thx.

a few years ago, i once read the translated book of "bumblebee economics" by bernd heinrich.

it was a classic and very interesting.

i wanna observe their fascinating life and beheviours for myself someday.

  • they do have bad tempers but look at the hard work that they put into things.

    i think there cute =)

  • Thats a bad ass video! I love it!

  • yea i have lots of photos. no more videos though...

as for how long it lasted its still there right now. there are 7 workers and they were very active today. i hope there will not be any more problems with wax worms..(they were eating the nest from the inside out).

  • wax worms!!

they can destroy the whole colony. You have to remove them, and freeze the wax (without the bees on it) to remove them.

  • if i freeze the nest wont all of the larva and eggs and pupa die???????????

    i hate the wax worms!!!

  • dont freeze them....

you should freeze the box when done though

  • what r wax worms m8 ???

  • a waz worm is the larvae of the parasitic wax moth.

They invade and quickly lay there eggs on bees nest. When the eggs hatch they are maggot like creatures that spin webs and totally destroy a colony.

  • Hey this is amazing...did you take any more videos of pictures of this nest???

    how long did it last?
