For the "flashlightmod" you need a flash that has a thyristor circuit with photocell(thats mostly called "Automatic Mode").
I located the photo cell and bypassed it with a variable resistor(I think it was a 22kOhm).(and completely darkened the photo cell.. just in case if I wanted to built it back).
BTW: This hack can be used for highspeed photography, too- as you can extremely short down the flash duration.
Thanks for your comment- also for the question :-)
I indeed had the idea to create a photo like this some time ago.
First of all- I'm a cinematographer, and I love to include the lights of a scene within the frame/composition. For me,doing this makes a scene more convincing, yet it's not so obvious intentionally lit up.
So, I built an adjustable torch-flashgun, which gives me some more creative space(+plus real 5500°K) than the normal bulbtorches I use in motionpicture.
Final inspirations were the unluckily current nuclear discussions + the atomic bombing in Japan which took place about this time 63years ago.
And I just started putting videos in my channel and at the same moment strobist started this thing... so I thought :)
I'm pointing out: they won't be the last videos XD

Hey thx,
I used a ~30 years old hanimex flash.

Great! It's always inspiring to see the process through which a certain picture was achieved. Thanks for posting this!
