It's simply a catch-all term invented by the media for grouping all the bands of the early 90s which incorporated the strong, distorted tones that we hear during that timeframe.

The bands that came out of seattle at the time were so varied its not funny and they all got the grunge lable. Mudhoney , Screaming trees ect were vastly different to rock bands like soundgarden ect. I lived it , grunge was a word that was likely to get u laughed at

I never liked grunge, when it was popular I was a Toddler or so, I mean, I was born in 1989, but in my country, trends always came a little late, so I enjoyed the music in the radio. This song was some kind of anthem, even when I was not into Silverchair, but as I was the butt-monkey in my school for being a little weirdo, so I was a freak, but I felt proud of being different, because being freak meant being the OPPOSITE of the "cool kids". For me, those kids are dumb, ignorant and hollow.

If some band could actually bring grunge back that would be awesome, but as far as my band went, we hooked up with an established manager, recorded with a producer with some pretty awesome grunge credentials, played a lot of shows, and still had nothing to show for it at the end.

i will actually speak for the older fans (frogstomp, freak show and neon ballroom) and new fans (neon ballroom diorama and the other shit...which name i forgot) but silverchair should make their retirement after diorama and i will say that the only reason is because silverchair touched the sky literally with diorama, so no one can say that the album was bad, daniel achieve his superiority of his skills as a musician with diorama end of the story

I can count on my fingers the women in rock bands I listen to. There's an infinite number of men in rock. It's actually quite unfair and sexist. 99.9% of the music on my local rock station is played by men. It has to do with the idea that rock music is all macho/manly.
