  • as someone who can play by ear, as well as read the time signatures and music..I've found it very refreshing to see some who can explain simply the musicality and feeling to drumming without shoving all of the math and physics of it down your throat...i don't know about alot of you up-n-coming drummers , but when I started out I wasn't ready for learning the true philosophy of drumming until later years, and even though I've learned 3/4ths of it now, it's still good to be able to just listen..

  • you really can't say anything about the sounds of the tom's ... anyone could like any sound they like... for example metal contains low pitch tom's , jazz, blues, etc... you could tune them the way u want.. there's no specific way to tune them... although to tune them right you may have to know notes and tune them in notes but only if u want it specific... gospel players tend to tune them like that ... there's nothing wrong with it... and for you" HEARANDPLAY" it sounds great..

  • great drummer great teacher:)

  • for those who talking about time signatures, plz check out effrain toros lesson on drum channel. music should be felt not counted. hearnplay is certainly one of the best player/teacher on you tube. no offense to anyone.

  • wow dat is a very good introduction beat nice work

  • lol we got fat albert showing us some badass drum fills. awesome.

  • this fill sounds sooooo sick dude!!

  • nice nice great vid, Amazing lesson

  • tomtomskin dont be a foreskin!

this is an instructional clip he's not laying something down on tape he's tryin to teach folks something!

  • I can't understand why you love the sound. I think it's terrible, it doesn't even sound tuned. But he is a good drummer, that's no doubt. :)

  • @matjor1 all kits are tunes different however you like it if they was all tuned drums be a bit boarin right lol

  • Thanks for teaching us "oido" (earplay) drummers. Together with complementary teachers like randy van patten, I hope to be a funky paradiddler! God Bless indeed!

  • thats a nice lil jazz solo i like it

  • I like his style but he does have a hard time explaining it. Keep up the good work and God Bless! 5-stars!

  • These are excellent teachings... music theory, after all, is just mathematical patterns... music is math. Thanks for the instruction.

    mike from the "d" (detroit)

  • i think pearl drums are much much better than tama, because they research more. fore example, their reference series, which I LOVE!!! i used to play tama, but then pearl reference changed everything for me. i love REFERENCE!!

  • Love your vidoes! Thanks for helping a old rock drummer from Detroit pick up some excellent funk chops. Dig your style & technique. God Bless

  • Yeah man. I don't know why I have 2 thumbs down.

  • The toms sound fine to me...

  • u r good at this i new i played for 4 weeks now and in 4 days i can do this ur so gooood and teaching stuff

  • I notice people are mentioning that he should not be teaching. I'm speculating it's because he's not teaching time signatures, counts, "musicology"! His teachings are for the person (me) who can't read music and they play by hear and feel. So based off that, I enjoy this, because I don't read music and find teachings based on "musicology" difficult. I do want to learn to read; however, I feel something like this is perfect for me.

  • @emphyrean

all chops and no musicality is what you want to avoid. :(

  • @PositivelyBored I certainly agree with that as this is one vehicle of learning. Maybe I should reiterate that for the type and style of music this is perfect for me because I don't understand the various time signature (which I do now, because I have been taking classes). However; you are correct, I wouldn't use this as my only means of learning as it is limited in that sense. My point was that there are people criticizing the guy and I am confident over half of them can't hold a drumstick!

  • I have been playing for 4 years, so I'm still a little new at this thing. This is one of the best drum vids I've ever seen. Nobody breaks it down to the beat like this guy except Tommy Igoe!

  • i don't believe you have to be the greatest drum player to teach someone. he just sharing the knowledge he has with up and comin drummers. I've been playing for 7yrs and i'm learning new things from this cat. so keep doing you man people are just going to hate on you but shake them off. GOD BLESS

  • i aint complaining i need all da help i can get. God will bless him for sharing his talent. nuff sed

  • Amazing lesson. You should get paid for this.
