Am I the only one that's had horrible luck with WD, and BEAUTIFUL luck with Maxtor? Like seriously. WD lasts me under 3 years each time. I have 12 Maxtors that my parents bought as stock for their store, but they closed it, and gave them to me several years ago. I've used every single one, and only 2 of the Max's went out. :O One because of MFACE, and one because a bad processor shorted it out. The rest work beautifully still, after 11 years. :| I freakin love Max.
@hylianprincess7 never had a WDC go bad, except for issues with scorpio's idle3 feature, which i disabled with a DOS program. of course we have had a LOT of maxtors in clients pc's fail taking the data with them, including one that wont spin to full speed ( not a bearing issue, but PCB, thats common to ). and the ones that are the 'musical maxtors'. fuck maxtor, every one in my videos i killed. Maxtor deserved it. why do u think they sold to seagate to later be discontinued?
@c0rrupts3ct0r555 I guess I just got lucky with my models. See, I repair HDDs and various computer parts. With hard drives, as long as you clear cap them while you work, to avoid dust, it's not impossible to fix them. Bad heads can be backed onto a secondary master. Bad bearings can be iced for half an hour, and prolonged in a cold room to avoid condensation while you retrieve data. It's always worked for me. People have even recommended my repairs. Ergh. Not that I enjoy that.
@hylianprincess7 the 'STM' maxtors which are just refurbed seagates ( same parts ). whemn they bought maxtor they inherited their issues with quality (the 7200.11 and 7200.12 lines ) failing because of firmware issues and head crash 500,750,1tb and above. Just as crappy as a 'deathstar' which ended up in a class action lawsuit. Also maxtor bought Quantum, which came out with the D540x, d740x drives (maxtor quantum mix) then the diamondcrash 8 9, and 10 ( quickviews also). no thanks WDC ftw.
@c0rrupts3ct0r555 And I'll just say. Not one maxtor has come into my shop. They're all Wests and Fujitsu or IBM/Hitachi pieces of crap. >.>' Just saying. Never a Max or Seagate.
@c0rrupts3ct0r555 Yeah, it's a shit brand but if it were to come flying off and hit the girl in the neck or face, you would of been responsible for her death.
@c0rrupts3ct0r555 Yes, it may well have been held on the spindle, but what if the axis that the spindle was attached to broke? It would go flying out.
@SluzBag1993 wont happen, platters were secured by screws, when i jammed it it couldnt move. if i would have done something messed up, i would have had everyone move away, im not stupid :/

Ok fair enough, scratch it, use a pen on it whilst it's running, but seriously, don't use a hammer on it, could have been fatal.
