I love Antonio, but his accent is just...too blatantly Spanish for Guido, I think. And he's just too cute...I know, there's the whole "Projecting to the audiance live performance nyahhh" thing he has to contend with...but I tihnk DDL did it a little more convincingly, just because he is a little older and plays the whole tortured artistic soul perhaps better than our dear Zorro... but, just an opinion....

Well I actually really like the movie and Daniel as Guido. Some of the actresses were disappointing but I liked him. However, I love Antonio in anything he does! He could have definitely been Guido in the movie.

@carwyncymru in regards to your comments about, plot, well the musical actually has less of a plot than the movie, and the original movie, which the play is based on, even less of a plot. Is a film called 8 1/2 by the great italian filmmaker, FELLINI. the mistake with the movie NINE, in my opinion, was that they tried too hard to make it a more conventional film but without really going all the way, It felt like they didn'nt know if they wanted an artistic film or just another fun musical.

I still dont understand people talking that DDL is better Guido. First of all Guido must be attractive. He has like 6 women in addition except mother and wife. In movie, I did not feel SUCH ATTRACTION, CHARM or charisma like Antonio. Guido is a bit horny, very attractive, charismatic and artistic man. Like Fellini himself. DDL just looked like a man who is passing the middle-age-crisis.

He was that extremely charming Italian man who can get any age of a woman to fall for him. That's the charm of Italian Men. Just because you preferred AB, there were those who truly believed DDL was amazing and gorgeous. He played the Italian Man a lot better than Antionio. I kept forgetting it was DDL, he encaptured all the Italian men I became friends with in Italy.

I saw this production in NY on Broadway and was blown away by the entire cast. Especially Antonio's ability to make you feel for his character. I didn't see the movie because he wasn't in it. I would gladly see his performance again and again!

Antonio is a great actor, and has an amazing voice. I believe that he has the perfect characteristics for the role in the movie, but the movie lacks charm. Antonio, just wasn't very good at lip syncing here. Oh, well he's still amazingly hot, and really talented.

Antonio Banderas has a lot of charm here , which the role requires and which Daniel Day Lewis totally lacks in the movie Nine. DDL tries so hard but is so unappealing -- remember that Marcello Mastroianni is the original.

This character is supposed to be based on Italian Filmmaker Federico Fellini...thus a Latin-looking actor should be best fit to play him..Raul Julia did it first, and now Antonio Banderas..why did they chose Daniel Day-Lewis for this part??? could not they get Antonio again? or Javier Bardem? or Andy Garcia? or even ME (hahahaha)?? come on! our Icons are always taken by Anglo actors (Madonna took Evita, Robert "Twilight" Patterson took Salvador Dali, Day-Lewis took Guido). ....May I remind you that Italians ARE Anglo? I agree, it is concerning that Day-Lewis affects a better accent than Banderas, but hey, that's Banderas' problem. Day-Lewis' incredible ability to physically transform made him able to fit the mould of Guido absolutely perfectly.

I was lucky enough to see Antonio Banderas in this role on Broadway, and it was almost as if the part had been written with him in mind. What a seriously underrated bundle of talent this beautiful man is! When I heard the film version would star Daniel Day Lewis of all people, I thought I had surely misunderstood. I for one will never see this film. I've seen the best version . . . why mess with perfection???
