  • look like a tuba with saxophone dns :D

  • 3:38 finger is like 1/2 on the hole in the middle that's why it's sort of out of tune if that's what you meant

  • holy crap you look like my band director O_o

  • whats the song at 8:15

  • Pretty good effort, it actually sounds better than a serpent, which really isn't a nice sound at all, and is really really hard to get to sound good.

  • please play at my wedding. ;)

  • Very nice! At the begging it sounds almost more like a didgeridoo than a tuba. Keep it up!

  • that is sooooooooooooooo cool.now im the padawon ur the jedi

  • Did you make it? I have to make an instrument for my physics class and i have no clue what I'm going to do!

  • you should add a bell to it it might help the sound

  • What is the function of the holes? Are they so you can get a good grip on the instrument? Or what?

  • also very handy at letting people know you're about to storm the castle

  • Spongebob SQUAREPENT!!!!!!!

    LOL

  • that doesn't sound like a tuba

  • @Inuyasha8325 it's not a tuba.

  • how the hell would you tune that thing?

  • Wow. You looked like you where in pain when you play Reveille. Nice Squarepents. An F# and a B horn.

  • lyder lide lort.

  • um wow...

ever put an alto sax mouthpiece on a trombone? pretty funny.

  • bari sax mouthpiece on a tuba!!!!!

  • Fit a trombone mouthpiece in an Alto Sax,

or an Eb tuba mouthpiece into a Tenor Sax,

And you'll get the sense of how these things handle.

  • We were bored waiting for marching band to start one day after school so we tried things like that and also playing rock band 2 drums with timpiny mallets. we got yelled at :(

  • OK Now I get worried!!! :S Nice instrument!

  • oh ha, nevermind. i commented before i saw the rest of the video haha.

  • tuba mouthpiece or euphonium mouthpiece?

  • its made outta wood? wont that like rot or something with all the spit gathering over the many times played? or sumthing?

    :$

i love my brass trumpet not hating on wooden ones

  • Cool! A very inspiring video. Thanks for sharing.

  • Sounds like a tuba with a hole in it

  • hahahaha

over the summer im gonna make the contrabass squarepent on the website since it actually has pads.

  • its a little dfferent sounding tubu also im an ameture tuba player

  • A little.... well, farty. but awesome none the less. I gotta build me one of these. maybe not a tuba, but still....

  • Seal of Quality

  • that is so creative !

  • It didn't click the first time I read it, but I laughed maniacally when he said it out loud. Squarepents. XD

  • dont have a heartattack lol

  • he doesn't cover the holes all the way

  • He needs to produce some kind of pad. Like a saxophone, or similar.

  • sounds like there is no pitching on this thing? or it very hard to do.

  • Do you think you could get away with bringing one of these things to TubaChristmas? It's kind of a tuba right?

  • wats the name of the bugle

  • I made one out of PVC pipe

  • I've had to write an essay on valve development last week and I was really suprised to find that serpents aren't rlly that ancient. They were used in lots of setting excluding the symphony orchestra right up to the 20th century, crazy!

Looks more like an ophicleide, doesnt sound like one tho.

  • dont know about sand what about woodworm

  • Almost as good as a real tuba

  • @221army i think you need to take another listen to a good tuba...

  • you puff your cheeks way to much.

  • no, hes puffing his cheeks; compare the start of the video to like :01

  • that i way cool! i play trombone, but what do you use as a spit valve?

  • try sticking some kind of reed style mouthpiece on there, see how that sounds.

  • LoooL

  • Hmmm. You could make one of these out of PVC pipe if you wanted a beach party serpent. wouldn't look as cool; more like something found at home depot....

  • ................................................

  • yay for invention, creation, energy. Thanks for sharing!

love the take an instrument to the beach without getting it wrecked idea! LOL!

  • thats disent

  • nice sounds! i have the same chair :P

  • The sound of the instrument is absolutely astounding ... I love it! I'd like to know more about the instrument (as a composer looking always for cool sounds). Go on!

  • i dont know much about brass instruments, but i think holes are completely useless for brass^^ anyway good idea

  • just so you know, some of the first instruments that sound was produced on by buzzing through a mouthpiece were made with holes, based off of recorder. Valves, either rotary or piston, werent invented for a century or more. not to rag or be a douche, just to inform.

  • cool i only watched him play the star wars

  • You're the man Mr. King

  • Very nice, sir! I want to make a wooden Euphonium now.

  • Have you herd of Bass Saxophone?

  • Yeah they are big but not as big as a double Bb.

  • how much can i get one for?

  • Is it Lovegun you are trying to play?

  • You drove your band teacher crazy, didn't you? lol

  • do you have plans for that? mind sharing if you do? Pm me plz

  • about big saxophones again theres also one called a tubax. there ar some vids on them here. look it up its cool.

  • THANK YOU jcpet1

  • take it to the beach?

  • lol.. careful not for it to mold (over time) cuz there's like no spit valves =P just so u don't forget

    nice job

  • Tuba sounds lower than this. This is bass, Tuba is contrabass!

  • hard to tune

  • no it isn't.

  • is that not how you play woodwinds?

  • sounds a bit like the bassoon and a bit like a tuba as well... a bass-tuba great

  • REAL Kewl. You ROCK. 5 Stars! *****/*****

    Thank you for sharing this.

  • luv it!

  • Why are you so amazing? Seriously. You are probably the most awsome guy EVER.

  • where can i get one of these?

  • wow nice man

  • he's got one heck a pair of lips i'd say.

  • it's a bassoon in the 8 bit world of the NES! lol. great idea though.

  • while your at the beach with that thing you can call on the whales

  • LOL!! Awesome..

  • hahaha.

Do the partials feel... uh... how do they feel?

  • you studio is pimp, nice mixer, nice keyboard

  • Q orrivel, péssimo, escroto, orrorozo, mulambo d +, asquerozo, porcaria

ñ tem nada pior q escutar isso

meU peido é mais afinado q esse loko.

    LIXO

  • Uh, you shouldn't puff you cheeks like that O.O

  • Thank U

  • Why do you not observe your birthday?

  • Because it is pagan, and not commanded of God.

  • Sorry I asked Again

  • @tubadylan Idiot.

  • this is awesome i want one!!! i play the tuba!!!

  • I thought you play other instruments besides the tubas and trumpet.

  • man u a geek

  • You should name one of them "Spongebob Squarepent"

  • nice

  • lol tuba tryen to be like a saxophone with a wood body and metal mouth peacie lol

  • your playing a piece of wood

  • Ranimal006....think about what you just said....every brass instrument is a megaphone for the mouthpiece...take your mouthpiece by itself and play...hardly anything right? put in tuba or trumpet trombone etc much louder right?

  • so basically, it's a megaphone for your mouthpiece?

  • dude u fart like hell!

  • WASTE OF AIR!!!!!

  • That is a very intresting intrument.Very creative on how you made it :3

  • Sorry I asked.

  • Isaiah 51:19 These two things have come to you; Who will be sorry for you?— Desolation and destruction, famine and sword— By whom will I comfort you? 20 Your sons have fainted, They lie at the head of all the streets, Like an antelope in a net;

They are full of the fury of the LORD, The rebuke of your God.

  • When's your birthday? July 2nd is me.

  • I do not observe my birthday, but thank you for asking.

  • Why?

  • My question is, why not?

  • yea, why not

  • isn't there no such thing as a bass sax, im pretty sure its only a barry sax

  • Not only is there a bass sax, there is also a contrbass. Some doubt their existance because of their rarity.

  • I've seen one in real life. It's HUGE!

  • they're rare. They're like the triple ocarina.

  • There's other oons btw aswell as the bassoon, or bass-oon. lol tenor oons and such. bet u neva knu tht?

  • there is a such thing as a bass sax the contrabass saxophone look it up

  • arent bass saxaphones, barry saxaphones

  • no you have a Soprano Sax, a Alto Sax, a Tenor Sax, a Barritone Sax, and a Bass Sax.

  • and then Contrabass sax which is humongous.

  • Those squarepents look a lot more like bass saxophones more than baritone saxophone and bassoon.

  • haha i have that same mouthpeice for mine

  • Very creative! I'd love to see more.

  • I have to agree that when I listen, I hear a good tuba player buzzing a tuba mouthpiece and producing pitches through that. You hear tuba mouthpiece sound, resonating some through a wood body, but not exactly a "tuba" sound. When listening to the video, I agree not your ideal instrument...but fun, interesting, etc.

  • dude all i hear is the mouthpeace

  • This is what tubist's do if they don't have a job yet. Lot's of free time!

  • Thousands of years of research and development of brass instuments was done for a reason. The Tuba is not made out of wood because wood doesn't work! AMAZING! Also in most english speaking countries we prefer one of 12 different pitches. I hope that you are able to identify one of them. I really love the Bb fart noise.

  • Allright- good to have an real expert on board...

  • hell naw you got a booba phone

  • awsome !

  • Cool : ) Fingering is such a hassle, though. Try playing a falset bass horn--no fingerholes required!

  • what a waste of breath

  • Pretty cool

  • i freakin agree bro

  • Did you know that Harry Potter has the same composer as Star Wars?

  • the beginning sounded like mars a little lol.

  • Hmmm. I wonder what John Williams was listening to in the car while he was writing STAR WARS?

  • Sergei Rachmaninoff no doubt. Pretty much lifted everything from him from Jaws/Star Wars through Harry Potter. Williams is much influenced by Hector Berlioz as well. Both Rachmaninoff and Berlioz have been fascinated by the Dias Irae and I can hear it coming right through William's movie scores like sweat from the brow of the beast.

  • rofl

  • I would like to take back my earlier comment, I mistook you takeing breaths ofter a couple of measures for cutting off your air instead of tounging.

    Very sorry,

    Rob

  • You need to work on tour tounging so badly (not an insult I'm worse at it).

    Props on the instrument.

  • The red squarepent looks 99% like a bass saxophone.

  • star wars

  • wtf?

  • Is that a Helleberg mouthpiece? I'd like to hear that instrument with an LM-7.

  • RAD

  • I used to play Baritone sax with my tuba mouthpiece... was lots of fun too ^ ^

you are awesome any way (",)

  • How about symphonie phantastique on the serpent.

  • you should win

  • Do u know where i could buy one?

    Tick2009

  • great instrument you made there! And your try to play Zarathustra was hilarious =D

    Congrats!

  • Awesome. I'll take them both. How much you want for them?!

  • Priceless!

  • Hi Dylan,

Love your video, that has been some work to make them. But what I don't understand is the position of the holes. Can you play an octave on them ? Greets Patrick
