  • I have dolphin 7 and use it for website tutorials create websites in php, html, css and more, also tuts on dolphin, joomla, and other sites, look on my youtube channel

  • I considered Dolphin, it looks great but read so many poor reviews about the software being buggy and bad customer service (even on their own forums) that I afraid to use it on a serious project. I was then torn between Phpfox and Social Engine - I eventually went with Phpfox only because they include a lot of modules/features that SE charges extra for.

  • Good video

  • And most of the modules on D7 are paid you ll spend a fortune just to have a descent D7 website. I am sticking with Drupal, Joomla or Wordpress. I may even try phpfox at least they don't pretend to be free

  • cute but D7 is not free period. charging to remove the banner I don't call it free. yes maybe you want donation but if you are confident make it completely free without forcing to pay to remove ads, Just like drupal , joomla, wordpress and they don't force anyone to pay to remove the banner.

  • i was only torn between SE & phpFox!

but man, this video is awesome!

so now i am back to the dolphin territory, and gonna include it into my selection process.

i am more concerned abt the features & cosmetics, rather than the one-time setup fees (of these all 3).

    wish me luck!

  • nice clips but quite inexact and misleading

    1. D7 is not 'free' like Joomla and Drupal (is a CC vs GPL lic.). I wouldn't call 999$ or 90$ to remove Boonex banner 'free'.

    2. is not so 'easy' in admin and not very customizable

    3. not really scalable since we tested it on a 1000 unique visitor and was crashing

    4. not fast...on the contrary quite slow

I wold not compare with great mature and REALLY free project such as Joomla or Drupal...you simply light years far from them

  • 1. It's free, not in a way Joomla and Drupal, but still free. We believe that getting money from those who wants "banner-free" helps the project a lot, while most can use it for free.

    2. It's the easiest you can get. Builders allow very simple way of customising all pages, navigation is altered by simple drag'n'drop, all modules can be easily added, etc, etc. I'd say it's easier than Joomla and Drupal, much easier.

  • 3. There must be a reason for that. "Crashing" can happen for whatever reason, mostly bad server setup. We have site running terns of thousands unique visitors and they work fine. Clustering is also possible.

    4. D7 is very fast if properly installed. You may have problems if you run ALL modules altogether, but still your server is what matters most.

  • @unoboonex

YOU ARE NOT FREE. You can argue that fact if you want but you are NOT. it just a matter of semantics as a matter of fact I trust more a software that says we are paid than a software that play with semantics saying it's free, when they actually charge you to remove theirs Ads.

  • @wumingdao I have dolphin 7 running website tutorials at my site, look on my youtube channel

  • Im definitely biased but would've been nice to know which Phpfox version was used for comparison :P

Thanks for the video! :D Good job on the music and pretty funny :o)

  • PHPFOX and Social Engine both have great community support! I wouldn't complain about them not being free, when it costs money to remove branding from Boonex. I am still torn between the three, what I like about Social Engine is that the interface is a lot more simple to use than Boonex.

  • I agree, the installation process is tedious!

  • LOL! 5*

  • if it took you 30 minutes to set those permissions, you have a lot more to work on than installing D7, lolz.. try learning bash a bit more...

So far the only thing dolphin is missing is documentation.. yes it has it, but it is horribly light...

  • Cute BUT d7 isn't easy to install

spending 30 minutes on the silly permissons process drives me crazy

    also admincp isn't that easy

  • Yeah if you guys could release some sort of alternative permissions setup for some people that use cpanel or what ever that would be nice, but anyways keep up the good work everyone!
