  • You, sir, are GENIUS!

How did you get the multi-layered sound at the top? Sounds like a barber pole synth effect!!!

    Really, REALLY great! Bravo!

Thank you for existing

  • @atrophyoflife44 Awww..thank you so much!

  • this.. left me with a rather indescribable feeling. if i had to describe it.. it would be like a mix of uneasiness.. and wonder? i don't know. all i really know is that i adored what i heard.

  • @renlocket That sounds about right. It was written for a friend who died named Pandora, it's a eulogy.

  • @sxipshirey oh, really? that's interesting, because when i closed my eyes the images i got in my head were all death related. it was the same for another friend of mine who did it. my images were mostly depressing, while in the end his were more... calming. it's amazing how you were able to convey a topic so well to anyone in a song like this, but at the same time leave them room to how they perceive it.

  • @renlocket It wasn't intentional. I just make sure there is allot of directness in my compositions. I really want people to have their own experience with my work. If you we can meet halfway in that process that is wonderful.

  • this is really awsome! Thank you!

  • @RichardR0e your welcome!

  • my name is joshua shirey, I too am a musician....and you sir are awesome. i use sound clips in some of my stuff. I want to get into doing sound tracks for horror movies one day. You are great though, keep it coming.

  • @brokennside22 Don't wait, start making sound tracks for movies you want to exist!

  • That really is incredibly cool.

  • @Foxhengeyokai thank you.

  • @sxipshirey Very welcome.

  • Kinda creepy...

  • this is amazing. even if you are using effects, it's still truly incredible.

  • This is swell mood stuff. I can imagine it being coveted by film makers.

  • you're freaken awesome man! you're music is so freaken amazing, like i cant even start to explain how much i love it! i met you last night and you shook my hand. you're totally kick ass!

  • where does your inspiration come from?

  • @ToxicanCo my inspiration comes from listening. I listen for compelling sounds and then I make them part of my pallet. Like a chef chosing ingredients. I listen in the city I listen in my house, I listen in the woods. I listen.

  • You are Amazing!

  • What a wonderful and creative performance. Thanks for your artistry!!!

I was wondering what you were using for your pitch shifting........

it's got a really nice sound. I've tried a Boss Intellishifter and a Digitech Red Whammy in my own found sound shows but I"m not really satisfied with either.

By the way, I loved your whistling crank music toy piece!!!! I have one of those cool little instruments in my collection but have never found another.

  • ... I think it's a bit bizzare, but I LOVED IT.

    Hardcore fluff, yo. Hardcore fluff...

    'Love all of y'all!!!

  • you are an audio shaman. my god.

  • Oh, Sxip... This is perfection. Pandora would have loved it so much.

  • sheesh this is better than getting high :D

  • its been nearly two years since i had the pleasure of seeing you live in bethlehem, pa. please come back.

  • Sxip, just saw you in San Francisco just recently. Though I love the videos, none of them quite do justice for the genuine experience.

When you opened playing the flute, my girlfriend and I just slowly turned to the stage in disbelief. Incredible stuff my man. You and Jason did a fantastic job.

  • So unique and talented refreshing !!!

  • You sir, are amazing. The world gives us beautiful wonderous things and people, and you are one of them . I must show my friends and family this. Thank goodness Jason posted your red marble video on myspace! Im glad I've found another wonderful unique musican!

  • awesome

  • Amazing stuff. He's got at least a pitch-shifter and a reverb pedal set up along with the mike. Everything else is just creativity and practice.

  • pay attention to where he has the microphones set up. no effects. Its brilliant.

  • Dear Friends, as much as I would love to say I am using not effects Audioel is correct. I am using pitch-shifting and reverb. And it is creativity and practice and having an understanding of how to manipulate this new instrument which is the acoustic sounds working with the air, the effects and the mouth techniques. I create a palette of sounds and techniques that I use to create these pieces. Thank you for the good thoughts. Cheers, Sxip

  • microphone position? Does each microphone have it's own effect, or are you using pedals? I notice the three, but are there any more? You are amazing, the whistling part at 1:10 is haunting. Thank you for the response!

  • pedals!

  • I am using the mic I'm breathing into for effects. the other mics are just there to capture a bit of room sound. set up by the recording engineer.

  • absolutely enthralling. 'nuf said.

  • You are absolutely amazing. This gave me chills. Bring your Hour of Charm back to Boston more often -- I miss it! I went several times while it was being housed at the A.R.T. :)

  • can i meet you someday? id love to see how everything you do pulls together into such a sweet masterpiece

  • If I ever had a friend make me such a moving heartfelt piece of music after I died...I would know I had made an impression on someone. This is beautiful Sxip. Ignore any other comments on Youtube, you are a musical genius with a heart and soul that sings it.

  • I don't understand how he makes the harmonies and sounds. Does he have them going through filters and controls them with pedals that we can't see?

  • I've seen him live, and honestly, he does everything with what you see here. He uses his breath and his interesting instruments. It's... well, honestly, amazing seeing him live. It feels like some unseen force is flying across the audience, leaving many speechless and motionless. The guy is a genius.

  • Bitter irony

    Sadness, folly, love

    Different every time.

  • Sxip Shirey. Mad musical genius. Your composing makes me think of a million things I'd like to do with theatre. Please, please make it to Toronto one day.

  • @foilwrapper Did you see him when he was in Toronto on Friday night?

  • @Kokezaru No! I didn't hear that he was around until the next day. Very disappointing for me.

  • @foilwrapper The best response to art, is more art.
